Recommended 7-Way Trailer Connector for a 2014 Ford F-150 w/out the Factory Towing Package
Updated 12/08/2025 | Published 11/12/2025 >
Question:
Ive got a 2014 F150 without the towing package. Ive added a hitch and now need to add wiring/socket for a 7 blade round connector. The truck currently has just a flat 4 connector. I looked at your website and couldnt find what I needed. Can you tell me what I need? Thanks

Hey Cecil, thanks for the information, I sure can. Since your F-150 doesn't have the towing package you'll need the Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle, like yours with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on your F-150's battery, the white wire to a suitable ground, and the yellow wire to the accessory circuit. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's battery. This kit includes all the wiring, connectors, and circuit breakers you'll need.
I have linked an installation video below so you can see how to get this 7-way connector installed.
Do you have a brake controller yet? Your 2014 F-150 came with a plug in port for one. This was included on all models of the 2014 F-150's with or without the factory tow package.
You can add this information and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

Hey Cecil, how did things go with adding the ETBC7 kit to your F-150? Did the wiring and 7-way connector come together smoothly with your existing 4-way? Your update could make it easier for others doing the same upgrade.
