Why Aren't My Running Lights Working when Using the Adapter with the Furrion Vision S System?

Question:
I have the Furion Vision S camera system for my Ember Overland RV. Rear camera and side cameras. I also purchased the 7 way adapter because I am driving a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 truck and was told I would need the adapter. When I plug the RV in without the adapter. The back camera works just fine and seems to stay on just fine. Side cameras come on and off which I assumed was caused by the pulse modulation GM uses. When I use the Furrion 7-way adapter. The running lights do not come on at all on my RV which also means no cameras at all. I am not sure why the adapter is not sending any power to my RV running lights. Also, I did turn on my headlights as I saw some people mention and still no running lights on my RV with that adapter plugged in. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Hello Sam,
It sounds like you’ve run into one of those fun quirks between newer GM trucks and the Furrion Vision S system # FCE48TASL-05. Your setup makes total sense, the cameras on your Ember Overland get power from the running light circuit through the 7-way plug, so when you turn on your truck’s headlights or parking lights, they should stay on. The problem is that your 2024 Sierra 1500 AT4 uses something called pulse-width modulation (PWM) to control the brightness of its lights, and that uneven signal can confuse the Furrion cameras, especially the side ones. That’s why Furrion makes the 7-way adapter # FR87PR, it’s supposed to smooth out the signal and keep the cameras powered consistently.
The fact that your rear camera works fine without the adapter, but everything goes dark when you use it, means the adapter isn’t passing power through the running light circuit. This usually happens when the adapter has a bad internal connection or is just defective, not uncommon, unfortunately. To confirm, you can use a simple multimeter: plug in your 7-way without the adapter and check for 12 volts on the running light pin (the brown wire), then test again with the adapter. If you lose voltage, the adapter is the culprit and should be exchanged.
Before replacing it, make sure the adapter is pushed in all the way, GM sockets can be tight, and sometimes the pins don’t make full contact. It’s also worth checking your truck’s lighting settings under Vehicle Settings - Lighting - Trailer Lights, since occasionally the truck won’t energize the running lights unless it detects a load. Try turning on both your parking lights and headlights to be sure.

Thank you Kate for replying back to me. I will try out your suggestion of checking the adapter with a meter. I had someone else share with me that some of the Furrion adapters had issues.
