Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 09/06/2025

Question:

Im looking for a tow hitch kit for my 23 toyota highlander xle I see the recommended product but it has 2 options which say “exclude xse” or “xse models” which would be the proper product for my vehicle? I also need the 4way wiring kit for trailer hauling for the same vehicle if I can also get that recommendation? Thank you.

Hi Rafael!

Our website can be a little weird with stuff like this, so I understand the confusion. We have a few hitches that will fit the XSE and a few that will not fit the XSE, but most will fit either option. When one says "exclude XSE" as well as "XSE models", they are the ones that fit both.

I am not sure which one you were looking at, but I recommend the B&W Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # BW62PR. Pretty much all the hitches we have for your 2023 Toyota Highlander XLE have the exact same capacities and install difficulties, but I like how this one goes together. And it's American made!

For the wiring, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # TK99FR. I have found Tekonsha to make the most reliable wiring harnesses, so they are the ones to go with. Just keep in mind this is for vehicles that do not have the factory towing package (you will need to check with a Toyota dealer and have them run your VIN if you are unsure if you have this or not). If you do have the factory towing package, you will want the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # TK74FR.

What are you going to be towing?

Hi Rafael, Did you have a chance to decide on the hitch and wiring harness for your Highlander? I’d love to hear what you chose and how it worked out for your towing needs. Your experience could really help others in a similar situation!
