Steel carriers rust and get heavy, but aluminum trays usually give up cargo space and stability. The MoveHitch, Stay in the Tray is a hybrid carrier that keeps the full-size capacity, adds push-button tilt, a cargo net, and still weighs just 45 lbs.

Highlights

  • Stay in the Tray Security: Coolers, luggage, and camping bins are secured outside instead of under passengers' feet.
  • Handles Heavy Travel Gear: 500 lbs capacity supports generators, coolers, and gear for long road trips.
  • Push-Button Tilt Access: Front-mounted release button tilts the tray fast for hatch access and folds flat for storage.
  • Lighter to Mount and Store: Hybrid Aluminum and steel construction cuts the weight, not the features.
  • Faster Hitch Alignment at Install: Pre-installed alignment collar returns the carrier to the same pin position each time.

Features to know about

MoveHitch, Stay in the Tray Secures All your Gear

Benton MoveHitch

Family travel gets cramped fast once coolers, folding chairs, camping bins, and luggage start taking over the cabin. This carrier gives you a full 60" long x 24" wide platform with a 500 lbs capacity, evenly distributed, so bulky gear rides outside while passengers keep their legroom for the drive. and while all that odd-shaped gear usually turns into a mess of loose straps, stretched cords, and one corner that still wants to lift in the wind. The cargo net system drops over the full load with built-in straps around the edges, then cinches down around different cargo heights. Instead of chasing separate tie-downs across the tray, you buckle the cover, snug the straps, and get on the road sooner.

Tilting Shank for Quick Access and Easier Storage

Benton MoveHitch

Most trays out there don't tilt at all, and ones that do might turn into a team-building exercise. Many still use pull pins tucked underneath the tray, which means kneeling on the pavement, reaching under a loaded carrier, and sometimes needing another person just to hold the weight while you line everything up and don't crush your fingers. This one uses a push-button release right at the front of the tray where your hand naturally lands. Push the button and the carrier tilts for quick hatch access during fuel stops, grocery runs, or campsite setup. When the carrier is empty, it folds upright in seconds to cut down how far it sticks out in parking lots. And once the trip is over, the folding shank tucks completely into the tray so the whole setup takes up less awkward space in the garage.

Better Finish Protection for Outdoor Gear Runs

Road spray, wet firewood, snow-covered gear, and muddy equipment wear down exposed metal fast during year-round hauling. Powder-coated aluminum parts and e-coated plus powder-coated steel parts add finish protection across the basket and support arm. The carrier handles rainy campground weekends, dump runs, and winter travel with less exposed metal showing through scraped areas.

Quicker Receiver Alignment During Install

Benton MoveHitch

Sliding a carrier into the receiver while trying to line up the hitch pin hole usually turns into repeated lifting, shifting, and guessing while the tray hangs awkwardly behind the vehicle. The pre-installed alignment collar sets the mounting position after the first install, so the carrier slides back to the same spot each time instead of making you hunt for the pin hole again. Once it's lined up, the included anti-rattle hitch pin tightens everything down to reduce movement and clunking on the road. For added security, replace the included hitch pin with the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock ( e43JR - sold separately) to help deter theft while the carrier is mounted to your vehicle.

Optional Light Kit Keeps Signals Visible

Benton MoveHitch

If you're stacking gear high enough to block your vehicle lights, the etrailer LED Light Kit ( e67RV - sold separately) adds brake, turn, and running lights at the back of the tray for better visibility in traffic. It also adds extra visibility during rainy highway drives, early campground arrivals, and late-night packing runs.

  • Will etrailer Cargo Carrier Bag Fit Benton MoveHitch 60x24 Cargo Carrier
Hi Angela! Yes, it will. The etrailer Cargo Carrier Bag # 988501 measures 59" x 24" and was designed with 60" x 24" cargo carriers in mind. This will fit nicely on the Benton MoveHitch # B86VR, and will keep your camping gear protected while freeing up room inside your vehicle. Keep in mind, the cargo bag might block your vehicle lights so you may need to add the light kit # e67RV depending on where everything sits on your setup. Where do you typically go camping?

  • Cargo Carrier That Tilts For Easier Unloading
Hey Michael, welcome back! The Benton MoveHitch 60x24 Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # B38VR you looked at does have a tilt away feature. This can help with loading/unloading, and also help clear a rear hatch. The tilt mechanism is one of the features that really stands out the most on the MoveHitch. It uses a push button release so you don't have to try to align pins and balance the carrier while folding or tilting. Nothing is going to tilt all the way to the ground unless you use a...

  • Availability of Locking Hitch Pin For Benton MoveHitch
Hey Derek! Absolutely. A locking hitch pin is a worthwhile upgrade even if you won't be leaving the Benton MoveHitch # B86VR or # B38VR on your truck during trips or overnight stops. This maintains the anti-rattle properties while adding the lock to keep it secure. Where are your travels taking you this year?

  • Was Strength Testing Performed On Benton MoveHitch
Hey Frank! This is a newer product, so there aren't many long-term owner reviews available yet. That said, we have done extensive testing on the Benton MoveHitch # B86VR. A strain gauge was used to measure the forces the carrier experiences during normal highway driving, speed bumps, hard braking, and similar real-world conditions. Those measurements were then used to calibrate our test machines so they could accurately simulate those loads. Competitive carriers were tested first to establish...

  • What Is The Largest Available Cargo Carrier With A Ramp?
Hello Jesus, thanks for reaching out. We do have cargo carriers with ramps, but nothing that large. The largest one we have is the Erickson Aluminum Mobility / Cargo Carrier # EM34JV which is 50" long and 30-1/4" wide. We don't have anything with a ramp that is 60" long. We do have a few 60" long cargo carriers like the Benton # B38VR which is 60" x 24", but it doesn't have a ramp attachment. What were you wanting to use the carrier for?

  • Will Benton MoveHitch Work With an etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar
Hey Jason! You can definitely use the two together. The etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar # e38FV installs at the hitch receiver. The alignment collar on the Benton MoveHitch # B86VR and # B38VR (with cargo net) just helps you line it up with the hitch pin and won't interfere with the anti-rattle. The MoveHitch also includes and anti-rattle pin, or you can upgrade to the locking pin # e43JR, which will give you a really solid setup. Where are you headed with your extra cargo?

This cargo carrier has a 500 lbs capacity, weighs only 45 lbs, and measures 24" long x 60" wide x 3" tall. The reason the Benton MoveHitch item # B86VR is the best folding cargo carrier is because of how easy it is to fold it up and down. Hello Robert, Thanks for finding a reason to write in =) The Benton MoveHitch 60x24 Cargo Carrier # B38VR does have the potential to interfere with the rear parking sensors and rear cross traffic alert on your 2025 Mazda CX-90 since it sits directly behind the vehicle. That said, I haven't heard of this being a common issue with this carrier. I really wish I could give you a more direct yes or no answer. The generator measures about 20 inches long by 11.4 inches wide, and the carrier has a 24 inch by 60 inch platform, so you'll have plenty of room. The generator weighs about 54 pounds with fuel, which is well under the carrier's 500 pound weight capacity. That said, you will want to double check the weight capacity of that hitch. This weighs 45 pounds and you will want to subtract that from the hitch capacity to see what kind of payload you can get on this. • Lightweight Cargo Carrier for a 2 Inch Trailer Hitch
Hi Dorothy! I think the Benton MoveHitch Cargo Carrier, Part # B38VR, is exactly what you're after. It only weighs 45 pounds, so it's much easier to put on and take off than most cargo carriers. Since it's made from aluminum, you get the lighter weight without giving up strength, and it's still rated to carry up to 500 pounds. Most steel carriers weigh around 56 pounds or more, so those extra pounds really add up when you're installing it by yourself. One thing I really like about this...
