Question:

I have a 2024 grand Highlander hybrid that has a four pin adapter on it well the seven pin conversion kit for grand Highlander work with it? Seen some online reviews that says that the hybrid is different from the grand Highlander that is gas powered only.

Hi Fred!

The 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L will have no issues working with your 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander hybrid. It will piggyback off your existing 4-flat and you will just need to run a wire to the 12 volt battery (not the hybrid battery) and you are good to go. I can't say I have heard anyone we have recommended this to have a problem with their hybrid.

Do you have a brake controller picked out already? Or is this more to just get a 7-way?

We would need a brake controller as well. Any recommendations?

@Fred I have a couple for you. The first is the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller - 7-Way Plug-in w/ Bluetooth App - Up to 2 Axles - Proportional # C51180. This works perfectly with the # ETBC7L and will require no other wiring as it connects to your smartphone. It is very popular for this reason. However, I am not a huge fan of it as I prefer to use my phone as a phone and don't like having to download apps to run things like this. You can add the manual override button # C83HR so you don't have to have your phone out an open at all times, but if I were installing a brake controller, I would go with this next option. Check out the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness - Dash Knob - Proportional # RED52VR. This will require the # ETBC7 as it has the wiring that goes up to the cab of your vehicle, but getting this installed isn't overly difficult. Once the controller is also installed, all you will see is the knob. You will need to drill a very small hole for the post that the knob fits on to go through, but I think it's still worth it (you probably have an open accessory switch port somewhere on the dash). It's also very easy to set up and use, and it's one of the most reliable ones on the market. If I didn't have a factory controller in my Silverado already, this is what I would install. What kind of trailer will you be towing?
