Question:
Going to purchase 2inch curt hitch for my 2014 front wheel drive CRV. Looking at the Kuat NV for 4 bikes. If each bike is 30lbs - will my car be able to handle it - I know the hitch will based on the rating. Will be driving on highway for long road trips as a family.

Hello Jonathan, thanks for reaching out. Based on the numbers I am seeing in the online owenrs manual, the 2014 Honda CR-V has a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs, which equates to a tongue weight capacity of 150 lbs. True the class 3 hitch for the 2014 CR-V, part # e98868 has a 350 lb tongue weight rating, if the vehicle is only rated for 150 lbs that will be your limit.
For that reason, I really cannot recommend using the setup you mentioned with the Kuat NV 2.0 4-bike rack. The rack itself weighs about 110 lbs, so adding four 30 lb bikes would put you way over the max capacity of your vehicle. This would be highly unsafe.
You could definitely do the Kuat 2-bike rack # NV22G with two 30 lb bikes, but the 4-bike version would just be too heavy fully loaded.
If you need to haul four bikes, the only way to safely do this would be with a small lightweight trailer. That could work as long as the total load is less than 1,500 lbs. That or get a different vehicle with a higher tongue weight capacity.
I hope this helps. Feel free to leave a reply below with any questions or comments and I am happy to get back to you.
