Do I Want Sumo Springs or Timbrens to Pair with My Weight Distribution Hitch?

Updated 03/25/2025 | Published 03/24/2025

Question:

I haul a RV trailer with a 2024 toyota tundra hybride using a WD hitch. However, I notice the rear sags, not much but noticeable to me. My question is should I get the Timbren T45MR 5000lbs or opt for a sumoSprings blue vs yellow? Thank you much

Hello Barry,

Since you already have a weight distribution (WD) hitch and are only experiencing a little rear sag, I recommend going with SumoSprings. I typically only suggest Timbrens for those who are towing heavy loads regularly, as they can create a noticeably harsh ride when the vehicle is unloaded.

Given that the sag is “not much but noticeable,” the SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs Rear Axle # SS46PV (blue) should be a great fit. These are rated for 1,400 lbs, while the yellow version, # SS86PV, is rated for 2,800 lbs. Because your WD hitch is already handling most of the load distribution, I believe you’ll be well supported with the blue springs, and enjoy a better ride quality when unloaded.

How heavy is the tongue weight of your trailer you are hauling?

@BarryM Thanks for the tongue weight Barry. I would say you are definitely safe using the Blue # SS46PV.
