Question:

what model trailer hitch, if any, will fit my 2005 118 WB, single rear wheel, 2500 sprinter, that does not require relocation of the spare tire?

Hi Tl,

I checked each of the hitches that fit your 2005 Sprinter, and they do all require relocating the spare tire. That's true for both the Class III Curt Trailer Hitch # 13250 and Class IV Curt Trailer Hitch # 14250.

Hey Tl, were you able to find a hitch option for your Sprinter that let you keep the spare tire in place? Knowing what worked could help others trying to avoid the same issue.

@LazerS I had to fabricate a hitch that would allow me to keep the spare tire in place. I used 4" x 12" x 1/4 plate with 4 holes to bolt to the frame. Welded sq tube to those plates to clear the spare and than another sq tube across the back and topped that with a plate for a step. Added a receiver for attaching a bike rack or carrier. It is probably adequate for towing a small trailer but wouldn't recommend anything too heavy. I can take pictures later as it is currently in storage until the roads clear.

@TlH Ah, that makes sense. Not sure why so many hitches interfere with the spare tires so often, but I'm glad you found a workaround. And yeah, if you get a chance to take some pictures when you get back on the road, we would definitely like to see it! : ) Let us know if there is anything else we can help with in the mean time!
