Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A Ford F-350 And 950lb Tongue Weight

Updated 08/26/2024 | Published 08/20/2024

Question:

I am shopping for a weight distribution hitch for my F350 which has a 2.5inch receiver in order to safely tow an RV travel trailer which has a GVWR of 9000lbs and a GTW of 950lbs. Would the BueOx Sway Pro BLU54TR be a good match? I realize the weight ratings for the hitch are higher than the those of the trailer. Will this cause a harsh ride or is this close enough to specs? Id rather not go down to a 2inch receiver hitch and use a sleeve adapter. Thanks!

Hi Adam,

The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 2-1/2" Hitch # BLU54TR has a tongue weight capacity range of 1,100 - 1,500lbs so it's a bit above what you're needing and would give you a bad ride quality. You would need the Blue Ox SwayPro # BXW1000 and would need to swap out the shank with part # BXW4028 to fit your 2.5" trailer hitch since they don't offer a 2.5" version at this capacity. This version of the SwayPro has a tongue weight capacity range of 750lbs - 1,000lbs and swapping out the shank would mean you wouldn't have to use a reducer sleeve to install the hitch.
