I recommend using the following for your 2016 Ford Explorer XLT:

- etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98867
- Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56172
- Curt No-Drill Bracket # C83DR
- Mounting Bracket # 18144

I really like the etrailer hitch because of the matte black finish since it looks better and is more durable than the other hitches for your vehicle. Then the T-Connector tees into your OEM wiring and the 4-Way connector is held in place with the recommended mounting brackets.

To complete your towing setup I recommend checking out the Curt Towing Starter Kit # C45534 as well.
