Features to know about

Bring Your Gear Along: Class III Strength for Towing and Accessories

This hitch gives you a strong, 2" x 2" receiver opening that’s ready for everyday towing and gear hauling. With a 4,000 lbs maximum gross trailer weight and 400 lbs tongue weight, it handles small trailers and cargo carriers without a problem. Add a weight distribution setup and the capacity rises to 5,000 lbs GTW and 500 lbs TW. Whether it’s a bike rack, cargo basket, or ball mount, this hitch is built with the versatility of a Class III rating so you can make the most out of your vehicle.

Tackle Installs Without the Hassle: Bolt-On, No-Drill Fit

You don’t need a lift or a welding setup to get this hitch installed. The fully welded design bolts straight to the frame using factory attachment points. All the mounting hardware and instructions come in the box, so you can handle it at home with basic tools. It’s a straightforward setup that gets you towing without cutting or modifying anything.

Keep It Looking Good: Matte Black Finish That Hides Wear

The matte black powder coat finish stands up to rust and corrosion while giving the hitch a rugged look that doesn’t show every scuff or ding. It’s applied over a protective base coat for extra durability in tough weather or road conditions. The round-tube style adds clean lines under the bumper instead of a bulky frame, blending in with your vehicle’s trim while staying ready for work.

Side-by-side comparison showing matte carbide black finish versus glossy black finish on trailer hitch parts, illustrating texture and color differences.

Close-up comparison highlighting matte carbide-like powder coat versus glossy black finish on trailer hitch metal surfaces.

Built to Last: Precision Welding for Strength and Reliability

Every joint on this hitch is precision welded by robotic tools to ensure consistent strength and fit. That kind of accuracy means solid connections where it matters most—between your vehicle and whatever you’re towing or carrying. With steel construction backed by proven weight ratings, this hitch stays dependable through years of hauling bikes, boats, or small trailers.

The prep work of removing the old hangers took about 30 +/- mins. The drivers side hanger was completely different than the video that suggested that both sides were the same. It had some kind of tow hook and required a third bolt to be removed once I realized the whole unit needed to be removed. The rest of the installation followed the video very nicely. The finished product looked as promised by etrailer. I would recommend this product to anyone.

by:

Videos made it easy to install. Installed in less than an hour. Follow the steps exactly as video shows. Sockets have to be in metric measurements. Don’t try and used SAE size sockets. They will not work on factory bolts to remove brackets.

by:

Yesterday i got the chance to install the trailer hitch, this thing is great, fits well very good quality plug n play not a difficult job to do would recommend to everybody! Thanks etrailer!

by:

The trailer hitch had everything that was needed to install on my 2017 Ford Explorer Utility (former police explorer). I was able to complete the install in 1.5 hours using the auto shop on our military base that has a lift.

by:

High quality easy to install. Awesome p roduct!

by:

etrailer.com is the best. Great hitch, great price and excellent installation videos. Hitch and wiring harness were shipped same day ordered and received the next day. I installed both the hitch and harness in less than an hour. No power tools or lift were used. I put the rear tires of the 2013 Explorer on ramps and had plenty of room. Hold the exhaust up using a wheeled floor jack or strap between the springs and you can move the exhaust and use it to hold the hitch while you get it bolted to the frame. I installed the hitch by myself.

by:

Fit perfectly on our Ford Explorer - thank you!

by:

Been looking for a diy trailer hitch package for a long time. Was recommended by a friend to etrailer, and you guys didn't disappoint! Being able to select the right setup for my 2013 Explorer was a piece of cake--the price was right, shipping was fast, and installation was easy. I'm a pretty slow diy guy, it took me about 2 hours with all hand tools and a couple of breaks (like I said, I take my time when I'm doing it on my own for myself). Thank you etrailer- easy to recommend a good, customer-minded company like you to others!

by:

Purchased this hitch used, it was in nearly new condition. This is the second hitch I’ve purchased from etrailer ( another vehicle). Quality products, great customer service, instructions are clear enough with pictures. The hardest part is fishing the carriage bolt through the frame, but it eventually will fall into place. I installed on my driveway by myself with the help of my floor jack. Highly recommend this company and their products.

by:

Trailer hitch arrived quickly and install video was excellent. The hardest part was lowering the exhaust from the hangers I chose the eTrailer hitch because of the powder black coating instead of the glossy black. You can see that the hitch is barely noticeable and fits tightly under the bumper! My lab Riley also digs it!
Thanks!

by:

Great quality, straightforward detailed instructions, perfect fit, very pleased!

by:

Everything about this trailer hitch receiver was excellent from the customer service, purchase, on-time delivery, installation instructions and the installation process. Did have to make one run to Home Depot to purchase the right size socket, but that is on me, not etrailer. The fit up to my 2017 Ford Explorer is factory perfect as shown in the photo. Thank you etrailer.

by:

Awesome product super easy to install highly recommend product. Directions were spot on. One tip I have is to use a floor jack to support the exhaust system rather than a tie off quicker to drop and raise the exhaust.

Awesome! bike rack, extension for storage , pulling jetski, log splitter.

by:

Receiver bolted up right into place. Excellent fit. I had access to a hoist which made installation much easier.

by:

Fast shipping, plenty of communication on when my package will arrive, extremely well made, durable, all hardware was highest quality, excellent fit, and easy to find installation videos online even though detailed instructions with pictures were provided with package. Have not used it yet, but can’t wait to test it out on our maiden voyage, towing our pop-up. Thank you etrailer!

by:

Excellent product, assembly without problems, the only thing that needs to be worked on is the shipping packaging, the box was very large without any padding, which caused the box to break and it even arrived with holes on some sides, other than that, everything was fine.

by:

Fits neatly under back bumper and doesn't stand out like older types of bolt on hitch receivers. Installation was easy enough. I see a small spot of rust already after the first week which is disappointing.

I'm happy this worked out so perfectly for you, Musa! Mini bikes are so much fun! Do you have a favorite place you like to ride?

by:

High quality product. Instructions were spot on. I got away with just removing the two isolators on the mufflers. Total installation took just over an hour. If you’re looking for a trailer hitch, you won’t be disappointed.

by:

Easiest modification I've done on the 2018 Explorer Police Interceptor. Easy to follow video and instructions. Hardware and materials looked well made. So far I've had no issues after the installation and do not expect any. If you need something and etrailer has it, chances are it's the right purchase.

@Randall Better late than never! Glad to hear it's still working well for you! ^___^ What kind of bikes are you carrying?

by:

Given that I had all the required tools it was not too hard to self install. The hitch fit perfectly and the instructions were sufficient to complete the job. I will be primarily using the hitch for a bike rack but hauling a small trailer is not out of the question.

by:

The hitch was well made and the finish was good. The installation was simple and the video instructions were great. It took me a couple of hours to install but that was because I painted the frame where the hitch was mounting. I do not have a lift so I did the install in my driveway and it was still very easy. The only improvement that would be nice would be if there was a tab welded to the hitch to mount a wiring connector bracket.

Exact fit for my 2019 Ford Explorer XLT. It took me 2 hours to install, but to be fair, I did it alone at home. The provided instructions with the installation video on the website helped me out tremendously. I'm just waiting on a bracket to secure the 4-pole flat connector, so it isn't just dangling. Other than that, everything went smoothly, and I can't wait to actually use it to haul stuff for my next project.

Love hearing this, and props to you for knocking that install out solo. Two hours by yourself at home is no small feat, especially lining everything up without an extra set of hands. I’m really glad the instructions and video helped out along the way. Sounds like everything came together just right. Once you get that 4-pole mounted up, you’ll be in great shape. You can use Curt Mounting Bracket for 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Part # C42CR for that. What’s the first project you’ve got lined up to haul with it?

@HeatherA I plan to use a trailer to haul materials for a fence that I am building around my backyard. Besides that, I plan to use it for a bike carrier for leisure and a cargo carrier for extra storage on long trips.

The Draw-Tite Class III # 76034, the etrailer.com # e98867, and the Curt # C13386 trailer hitches that are available for your 2018 Ford Explorer all feature an extremely similar design and will mount using the same existing holes on the vehicle's frame.
