Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

2015 Ford Explorer

Fits neatly under back bumper and doesn't stand out like older types of bolt on hitch receivers. Installation was easy enough. I see a small spot of rust already after the first week which is disappointing.

Justin E.

Update a year later, no further rust, still looks the same. Still very solid

@JustinE Awesome, thanks for checking in!

Awesome product super easy to install highly recommend product. Directions were spot on. One tip I have is to use a floor jack to support the exhaust system rather than a tie off quicker to drop and raise the exhaust.

Cjd X.

Awesome! bike rack, extension for storage , pulling jetski, log splitter.

Purchased this hitch used, it was in nearly new condition. This is the second hitch I’ve purchased from etrailer ( another vehicle). Quality products, great customer service, instructions are clear enough with pictures. The hardest part is fishing the carriage bolt through the frame, but it eventually will fall into place. I installed on my driveway by myself with the help of my floor jack. Highly recommend this company and their products.

My wife found your video on U Tube. After my review we ordered the hitch and trailer lighting harness. Great hitch with all required parts to easily install with common tools. Quality parts built to last! Many Thanks!

Tom G.

My sons and I installed the trailer hitch last year. Towing our box trailer to second home several states away without any issues. Quality built product made to last! Thank you!

2014 Ford Explorer

The video was a big help.
Hitch and kit
were complete and everything fit perfectly.

The trailer hitch was everything as advertised. Install was smooth, and finished product is exactly what I expected. Would recommend.

This is the second hitch I bought from eteailer.great service fast shipping wouldn’t buy from anyone else. As for the hitch the install it was easy took about 30 minutes on my 2016 Ford Explorer 4x4.. Any one should be able to do it.I’am a 71 year old retired mechanic.

No issues at all. Would recommend and have recommended to other people.

2013 Ford Explorer

Everything fit great. The wire and bolt design to get the bolt to reverse drop in the frame was great ... Took a little finagling but got it eventually :) The hardest part was getting the muffler clamps off. I went out and bought a tool for it and made quick work of it. The next step is to plug in the wire kit I just ordered

2019 Ford Explorer

Great hitch and easy to install. Second one I’ve installed. The first one took 45 minutes this one took 20. A+++ Highly recommend.

No problems! Would definitely recommend!

2014 Honda CR-V

Everything about this trailer hitch receiver was excellent from the customer service, purchase, on-time delivery, installation instructions and the installation process. Did have to make one run to Home Depot to purchase the right size socket, but that is on me, not etrailer. The fit up to my 2017 Ford Explorer is factory perfect as shown in the photo. Thank you etrailer.

It's a great matchup with my bike rack.

Trailer hitch arrived quickly and install video was excellent. The hardest part was lowering the exhaust from the hangers I chose the eTrailer hitch because of the powder black coating instead of the glossy black. You can see that the hitch is barely noticeable and fits tightly under the bumper! My lab Riley also digs it!

Finally installed this. The instructions were a little hard to follow in the pictures. Youtube was easy to find a video tutorial. Easy to install.

Been looking for a diy trailer hitch package for a long time. Was recommended by a friend to etrailer, and you guys didn't disappoint! Being able to select the right setup for my 2013 Explorer was a piece of cake--the price was right, shipping was fast, and installation was easy. I'm a pretty slow diy guy, it took me about 2 hours with all hand tools and a couple of breaks (like I said, I take my time when I'm doing it on my own for myself). Thank you etrailer- easy to recommend a good, customer-minded company like you to others!

2013 Ford Explorer is the best. Great hitch, great price and excellent installation videos. Hitch and wiring harness were shipped same day ordered and received the next day. I installed both the hitch and harness in less than an hour. No power tools or lift were used. I put the rear tires of the 2013 Explorer on ramps and had plenty of room. Hold the exhaust up using a wheeled floor jack or strap between the springs and you can move the exhaust and use it to hold the hitch while you get it bolted to the frame. I installed the hitch by myself.

Great service and awesome hitch!

2019 Ford Explorer

Videos made it easy to install. Installed in less than an hour. Follow the steps exactly as video shows. Sockets have to be in metric measurements. Don’t try and used SAE size sockets. They will not work on factory bolts to remove brackets.

The prep work of removing the old hangers took about 30 +/- mins. The drivers side hanger was completely different than the video that suggested that both sides were the same. It had some kind of tow hook and required a third bolt to be removed once I realized the whole unit needed to be removed. The rest of the installation followed the video very nicely. The finished product looked as promised by etrailer. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Faster shipping and your service are so great!

Your service is great and satisfying

The hitch fit perfect. It took about a hour to install

Yesterday i got the chance to install the trailer hitch, this thing is great, fits well very good quality plug n play not a difficult job to do would recommend to everybody! Thanks etrailer!

Super fast delivery had everything installed in 15 minutes thank etrailer

For the second time, the first being when I purchased a trailer jack last year, I was missing parts, in this case a two bolts, a nylok and two washers. It was obvious, as with the jack, that the cardboard had a tear in it which was patched by someone (crudely at that) which I have pictures of on my phone.

I hate to hear that this was the second box that arrived damaged. I will share this with our shipping department and I will have our customer service team reach out.

Watched the installation video and that made all the difference. Installed myself in under an hour. Fits and looks perfect.

The hitch has been used several times over the last year and works perfectly and looks like new.

  • How Heavy of a Trailer Can a Vehicle with an 8,600 lb Weight Capacity Tow
Great question, but the simple answer is that as long as the trailer always ends up weighing less than the towing capacity for the vehicle you can safely tow it. So just make sure that the trailer always weighs 8,600 lb or less.

  • Will the etrailer Hitch for a 2017 Ford Explorer Fit Police Interceptor Models
I do show the trailer hitch options for a 2017 Ford Explorer as fitting the police interceptor models. The police interceptor models will all be the same for the most part so installation and fit should not vary. I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98867. I took a look at the instructions and there is no mention of modifying or removing any exiting crossmembers or supports. I also did not see any reviews of incompatibility with police interceptor models so you should...

  • Why Does etrailer Hitch for 2017 Ford Explorer have Three Bolt Holes on One Side and Other Two
Hitch manufacturers have to work with how the vehicle manufacturers design the vehicles. On your 2017 Ford Explorer there happens to be access to a third hole on the frame on the one side so they went ahead and utilized it. With it's current design the hitch is conservatively rated for 4,000 lbs total trailer weight.

The Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98867 is only a fit for a 2011 - 2019 Ford Explorer. The reason for this is that it is a custom fit trailer hitch which is what allows it to retain bolt-on installation. The majority of our trailer hitches are custom fit which means they are designed for a specific vehicle and cannot be transferred to another that does not share the same chassis. If you can let me know what other vehicles you have then I would be glad to offer a custom fit...

  • Does Trailer Wiring Harness for 2019 Ford Explorer Need a Converter
No, your 2019 Ford Explorer doesn't need a converter for its trailer wiring so part # 118540 is exactly what you need. Some vehicles need a converter to protect their wiring from being damaged if there's a back feed from the trailer. Usually it's on harnesses that connect inline with the rear tail lights. Since your Explorer has factory connectors that this harness mates right up with it's already protected and a converter on the harness isn't necessary. I've linked a video from when we...
