So happy to hear that, Adam! By the way - I love the copper color on the Explorer. I don't think I've ever seen a vehicle that color before, now that I think about it :)

@BrookeM Thank you! I get that comment a lot when I'm out and about. You definitely don't see that color around much. Sorry it's so dirty in the pic, or it would really have a burnt orange color to it!

etrailer has become my go-to source for towing-related products. Last year I bought a custom Curt receiver hitch and wiring kit for my 2014 Ford Explorer. Great product, easy installation for both.

This wasn't a surprise, because prior to this purchase, I bought a custom Curt receiver hitch and wiring kit for my 2012 Ford Taurus with equally positive results.

I did both installations myself.

Love it! Two receivers and two wiring kits. I know where to shop with confidence.

Very easy installation. Plugs into the OEM wiring system. Bought item with the Draw tite hitch (76034) and curt mounting bracket (C42CR). Primaryuse is to power my Curt LED auxiliary LED light on my bike rack and flexibility power trailer lights as needed. Used recently to tow a trailer on a long trip with zero issues.

Hitch and wiring harness works great on my 2015 Frod Explorer. install only took about 30 minutes.
would definitely recommend purchasing from Etrailer.

by:

The product is a 4-5 star unit because it plugs in effortlessly and is "ready to go" in seconds. The black and white photos on the printed instructions drop it at least a half-star. They are just not useful.

by:

Really like the way the Curt trailer hitch receiver looks on my 2017 Explorer. Class III receiver should be adequate for my 19’ center console boat. Thanks.

It was too easy thank you e trailer

2019 Ford Explorer

I have purchased two different trailer hitches and wiring harnesses for two separate vehicles from etrailer.com; one for a 2019 Toyota Camry and one for a 2013 Ford Explorer. The installation of the hitches went totally without incident as did the wiring harnesses. The combination of directions and videos made both installations a real easy job. I commend etrailer.com for doing their homework. I would and have highly recommend etrailer.com products to anyone. In fact, the hitch/harness for the 2013 Ford I installed was for the priest of our parish. As for customer service again, it is second to none. Stacey A (my contact) was extremely professional, knowledgable, and helpful. Thank you etrailer.com for your superior products and service. -Ron-

I installed this wiring harness on my daughter's 2015 Ford Explorer. It was a simple fit. Just pull off the protective cover on the car's wiring and plug this in. Route the wires along the receiver hitch and secure with zip ties. Done!! Works perfectly from the start.

This is the most awesome product out there for the DIY or professional. Ease of use and installation would be an understatement. The videos you supply online are simply priceless.. Took me longer to try and get grounding wire secured than it did to connect the wire harness and install the trailer hitch. Just no room in wheel compartment to get my probably out dated drill. Only glitch I had was the zip ties were too short to go around the trailer hitch tube and the wiring harness. Luckily I have plenty in work shop.

Ran into the exact same problem with the grounding screw.Took me over an hour to figure out how to get my drill in there. Eventually lowered my mufflers which made it slightly easier.

  • 2015 Ford Explorer Transmission Cooler Recommendation
If your 2015 Ford Explorer has any of the V6 engines available it will have a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. Your Class III hitch like the Draw Tite # 76034 should have capacities that are right at the same capacity. For a transmission cooler you would want the Derale part # D13503 which would work well in your Explorer.

Hello Pam, thanks for reaching out. If you do not have the factory tow package on your 2014 Explorer, it is possible to add a brake controller, but you will have to do some wiring. It sounds like your friends Explorer has the factory tow package, which is why it was plug-and-play. I see that you were looking at the Tekonsha Voyager brake controller. Here are the parts you need to install that on your Explorer without the tow package: - Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole...

  • Trailer Wiring for 2015 Ford Explorer without OEM Trailer Wiring
That does look like half of the factory wiring usually used to install wiring kits that fit the OEM wiring like the Curt kit part # C56172 which you can see in the install video I attached. If you only have that single harness though you won't be able to use this kit since it needs the matching side. So instead you'd need a kit like the part # HM40285 which installs by plugging inline with the taillight connectors.

According to my contact in the tech services department at Curt, what we are looking at in your photo is a protective cap placed on the connector. Somewhere near the connector you found, there should be the other half of the connector. You would need to remove the protective cap from each connector, then plug the # C56172 inline between the two connectors. You would then have a functioning 4-pole connector.
