There are a couple of things you will want to check with the installation of the Double Barrel Trailer Tailgate Assist, part # RA-27C. The first thing you will want to check is to make certain the trailer gate does go all the way to the floor with the tailgate assist unhooked. If it still has the gap with the tailgate assist unhooked, the hinges or the frame of the trailer or gate may be the reason the gap exists. If it does go to the floor with no gap, then the next thing to check would be the tailgate assist itself.
You will want to make sure the chain of the tailgate assist has not been extended all the way. If it is extended to its limit and you have the gap, you may need to move either the Double Barrel assist closer to the tailgate of your trailer, or lower the bracket that is attached to the gate. Normally, the assist is hooked to the higher holes on the bracket for heavier gates, and attached to the lower holes for lighter gates.
Another thing to check would be to make sure there is nothing obstructing the chain that would keep it from extending to the length you need.
It was brought to my attention by another Expert that a similar situation occurred with the installation of this gate assist unit. They said that after some use it seemed to break in and the gap disappeared.
I have linked you to an installation video for the tailgate assist.
