Updated 11/21/2024 | Published 06/27/2022

Question:

How does the car and Motorhome Charging Kit work together. I have a hot wire on the Motorhome in the 1:00 Position 7 RV Blade socket and the towed car Hot wire in the center post socket 6 Pole Round I checked both socket with a Tester and they are hot.

The Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Motorhomes # RM-156-75 uses a 12 gauge wire and circuit breaker to route to the positive battery post in your motorhome and the number 4 pin in the included 7-way photo.

The Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 uses a 14 gauge wire and circuit breaker to route to the positive battery post in your towed vehicle and the number 2 pin in the included 6-way photo.

You would then need a 7-Wire to 6-Wire Cord like the # RM-1676-7 to connect the 7-way from the motorhome and 6-way from the towed vehicle.

I"m using the RM charge line kit. Hooked it up last night after getting my roadmaster tow bar. I did a voltage test on the 6 way plug and the charge line is HOT. Shouldn't it have a one-way diode or something to prevent the towed vehicle from sending a charge back to RV battery? I've read lots of posts online about charge line and only a few people have installed a one directional something. Some of the more expensive kits seem to have something like that. A few have commented that the towed vehicle can charge the RV battery if the RV battery is low. Thoughts? If i want to make it one-way what part do i need to install between the RV side of the fuse and the 6-way connector? Taillight hook ups use diodes which says it prevents the signal going back to the RV. thanks, Wyatt

@WyattR You can install a diode # RM-690 on the charge line wire on the motorhome side behind the 7-way to prevent back feeding to the RV. The "IN" for the diode would face towards the front of the motorhome and the "OUT" would run to the 7-way. If you wanted to do this on the car side you'd still just want the "IN" coming from the motorhome side and the "OUT" running to the vehicle battery. The line as is is connected a battery so it will be hot unless the battery was dead or you had some other kind of switch inline to cut the power. Most people just leave it as is with just the included circuit breaker to protect from overcurrent but it's not going to hurt you to add a bit more protection with the diode.
