Installing Transmission Cooler on 2012 Honda CR-V
Updated 02/10/2020 | Published 02/08/2020 >
Question:
I saw your excellent video on the 2009 CRV trans cooler install, I would like to install one on my 2012 CRV, its a little different because it has a trans fluid heater. Have you done one of these, and which hose would I send to the cooler

The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler # D13502 that you were looking at will work great on your 2012 Honda CR-V. As you mentioned in your question, the ATF warmer on your 2012 model CR-V will require a different mounting setup/location, but the overall install process will be the same.
We haven't had a chance ourselves to install a cooler on the 2012 Honda CR-V, but based on previous customer interaction, it looks like you will just need to mount the cooler near the ATF warmer, which is where the lines going to and from the transmission are accessible.
As far as actually locating the return line for connecting to the cooler, the best method is really just to test this by starting with the CR-V off and cooled down. Start the vehicle, put it in drive, and apply the brakes while tapping the accelerator just slightly. Put the CR-V back in park and turn it off.
If you feel the two lines from the transmission one of them should be noticeably cooler. This will be the return line and the one that will go to the aftermarket cooler.
