Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2017 Dodge Journey

Published 07/04/2018

Question:

Hi Jameson, thank you very much for your quick reply. I have one additional question. My trailer has a 7 pin power plug but the wiring harness has a 4 pin connector. Do you guys sell some sort of adapter to connect these? Thank you very much for your help and I am looking forward to hearing from you. Have a wonderful day.

For your 2017 Dodge Journey we can certainly help you pick out the correct hitch and wiring. For a hitch you'd want to start with the Curt hitch part # C13201 which is a confirmed fit and will work well. This hitch has the best capacities and price for your 2017 Dodge Journey so it is what we recommend the highest.

Then for a 4-way trailer wiring harness we have the Curt kit part # C56330 for if you have LED taillights or part # C56109 for if you have incandescent style taillights.

You might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. If you do have trailer brakes you would need the # ETBC7 instead of the # 37185 and a brake controller. This kit comes with everything needed to wire up the 7-way and install a brake controller. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
