This hitch is built for everyday towing and hauling jobs. It's a real pain to install this by yourself and without a proper hitch lift. I got it done using a floor jack and some jack stands. Make sure to clean out the inside of the frame rails of any dust/dirt buildup - there isn't much room already, and any added dirt/dust makes tightening the bolts properly almost impossible. This thing just barely fits around the spare tire, so if you're looking to add a 4- or 7-pin trailer plug be very mindful of this. I had issues and would probably go with the horizontal, hides-in-the-bumper style hitch if I did this again. The relative ease of install is a significant factor in why I chose this. But again, I'd probably go with the other style since you only have to install this once. Great product otherwise.
It shipped quickly, arrived in tact and was a breeze to install. The hardest part of the install was a the exhaust brackets!

It's a great hitch and extremely easy to install. I have a middling knowledge of car repairs I was able to install the hitch on to my Dodge Journey all alone with the help of some items to prop it up. My husband uses it almost daily now for how brand new, very expensive,bike on a hitch rack.

Are actually closer to two 2yrs from install and no issues. Im happy with my purchase. I recommend it to anyone that says they need a hitch.
This was the second trailer hitch I installed from etrailer. .The first was on my subarue and now my friends dodge journey. The video and instructions were exactly for the vehicle.The hardest part was popping off the rubber hangers to temporarily lower the exhaust pipes and mufflers. Did the whole job in my drive way in about an hour and 15 minutes. Thanks etrailer !

I am very happy with the purchase of my hitch, it fits my car as it was factory installed. The instructions and accompany parts made the installation extremely easy with no problems. I am also very happy with the quality of how the hitch was built.
Super easy installation and it fits great! Installed by myself in about 45 minutes with tools put away!
As advertised. My mechanic had it mounted quickly and w/o issue. Not for towing in my case (as my car can't pull a horse), but for a bike rack and cargo platform. Always have good transactions with etrailer.

I also have a 2018 Dodge Journey that cannot pull a horse.. lol What kind of bike rack do you use? I am thinking about upgrading! I have an old Reese hanging rack.
They say it’s a “20 min install”...but plan on about 45 mins to an hour. Not a problem of the product, but the one thing the don’t mention is cleaning out ALL the rails of the frame. I had it half assembled before I found that a 1/2 inch of dirt wasn’t allowing the bolt to come all the way through. Plus rust and the exhaust being a massive pain...Id say plan an hour. OTHERWISE was everything was cleaned it went in pretty damn easy!! Can’t beat the deal when installing yourself. Picking up out trailer tomorrow!

Great product, smooth installation had more of a hard time lowering the exhaust then installing the hitch itself. The kit includes guide bolt wires and makes getting bolts through the holes a breeze.
The trailer was really easy to install and looks great on my journey. I was able to watch the online installation video that was provided by etrailer.com and it took me less than 2 hours to install. Also the customer service was outstanding. I was constantly updated on my purchase and was even upgraded on my shipping. The hitch was received 3 business days later. Thank you for all of your help.
I would be very happy to give you ten (10) stars if it was appropriate. I am thoroughly pleased with your product. The material and workmanship is superb! A friend helped me with the installation as I am a 75yr old disabled US Navy veteran. He told me he has installed at least 3 or 4 of your units and he doesn't understand your low price. Quite frankly, after shopping around, even locally with welding shops, vehical rental places, etc. Even if your price was doubled, I still would have ordered from you. You're obviously aware that I didn't order any electrical wiring harness and you won't see any in the photo. I don't do any hauling! You will see in the picture, the purpose of your unit is to provide me a way of installing my Amateur Radio antenna. The base folds back to facilitate opening the back hatch. Best regards and thanks for a superior product. Proud to have it on my new Dodge Journey.
This hitch has been perfect for my family. We've towed several types of trailers including utility trailers and campers with it on our Dodge Journey. I would highly recommend this hitch to anyone installation was straight forward and relatively simply. It took about 2 hours total. Very pleased.
Product review of the Curt Class III-13201 Install on 2015 Dodge Journey Crossroad
Let me start by saying the shipment arrived pretty beat up. Fortunately the electrical parts I ordered with it were undamaged but the bag of fasteners was broke open and was only missing one nut and the instructions and paperwork were destroyed. A bit of bubble or foam wrap would have gone a long way.The hitch itself is excellently made and fits well. The install went straight forward after watching the etrailer video (highly recommend that!). Although the most current video install is on a 2013 Dodge Journey the install is the same for a 2015. The fish wire supplied that is used to thread the bolts in the frame is a huge time saver! I'm not sure if that is supplied by etrailer as an added detail or provided by Curt with the hitch, but THANK YOU for that! The whole install (including electrical) took me about 3 hours. That's up on ramps and not on a lift. The hardest part of the whole install is popping off/on the exhaust hangers.
I chose this make/model because I like the rounded drop looks of the Curt hitch over the other makes and that it does not stick out past the bumper to whack your shins.
After a year I have had no problems what so ever with this hitch. Awesome product that I would definitely recommend to anyone in the market for hitches. Quality is great, no rust or chipping paint. I use it all the time, pulling a utility trailer and it has been great. Matched with a receiver cover and the curt wire harness and mount it is the perfect combination for a sleek look when not pulling a trailer as well.
This is the third trailer hitch that I've purchased from etrailer.com (1998 GMC Jimmy, 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan w/extended wheel base, and now for my 2014 Dodge Journey). It went on with no problems. Dodge Journey SXT Curt 13201 hitch.
Regular shipping, received within a week. Followed video instructions and it took me about 2 ½ hours. I don’t have a hoist so I lifted it up on about 16 inch jack stands. I don’t know how the video makes it look like there is so much room to remove the muffler hangers, but I had a time getting my hands into the space. I had to pry off 3 of the hangers and fight to get the last off by hand. I had saturated them with soapy water. Bolting on the hitch was easy with the help of my wife holding one end up and my daughter starting the nuts. It looked like the spare tire would be locked in, so I dropped the spare and raised it up again to make sure it would work. It fits fine, but you need to guide the tire to get it to slide in above the hitch and into place. Using the soapy water we were able to force the muffler hangers into place, but had to use blocks and a pry to lift and hold the mufflers enough to attach the hangers. Would I do it again? I’m 66 years old and have some sore spots from rolling on the cement floor and a few banged up knuckles. Of course I would do it again. Less than 200 bucks for hitch and wiring for lights beats the $600 the hitch shop wanted to install it. I still need to do the lights, but am totally satisfied with my purchase.
