Question:

Hello All, I would like to purchase a premium trailer hitch set up for my 2015 Honda Accord V6 sedan. Highest class rated hitch, wiring, everything needed. I think the car is rated for 1000 lbs towing max. I have purchased from you before for a 2000 Honda Accord EX V6 and been using Thule roof racks, goal post mounted in hitch for transporting a canoe and bicycles. I have been very pleased with this set up. Please forward any detailed info/photos for doing the same high end set up for this newer 2015 Accord V6. Thanks,

Out of the available trailer hitches for your 2015 Honda Accord I recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11681 over the Curt item # C11496. They are both identical in Class and weight ratings and come with a 1-1/4" receiver. Please note that Class I trailer hitches are only rated to carry up to 2 bikes.

The Curt warranty requires a Stabilizer Strap # 18050 for all non-supported loads, like the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443, but it doesn't have the weld stop inside the receiver (see attached photo) which prohibits the use of some accessories. I have attached installation videos for both trailer hitches for you to check out.

You are correct that the max weight your Accord can tow is 1,000 lbs. Since the owner's manual (on page 421) states that the tongue weight of your trailer needs to be 10% of the loaded weight of the trailer, that means the max tongue weight they advise is 100 lbs which is pretty limiting.

I recommend going with a Tekonsha wiring harness as we have found their wiring products to be the most reliable. If you have LED taillights then you want part # C56173 but if you don't have LED taillights you want part # 118596 instead. Installation videos have been linked for both of these options as well.

We recommend using the Curt Class II Drawbar # C45521 with either the 1-7/8" hitch ball # A-80 or the 2" hitch ball # A-82. You need a hitch pin and clip # F-4 to secure the ball mount to your trailer hitch.

Since the goalpost style accessories can only fit a 2" hitch you won't be able to carry your canoe with one. We do have some roof rack and roof canoe carriers that will work. If you want to go that route just let me know.
