Lightweight Trailer is Perfect for Hauling a Heavy Kayak or Canoe

MPG586XB In Use

This lightweight and versatile trailer comes with padded bunks so you can transport your favorite kayak or canoe. With a 6-3/4' long tongue, this trailer offers exceptional clearance during tight turns. The extended tongue also makes it easier to back up the trailer and prevent binding than trailers with shorter tongues.

MPG561 underside bunk

Heavy-duty bunks stabilize your boat and prevent movement while traveling on uneven or rough terrain. They can be adjusted to one side to install other clamp-on accessories (sold separately) and haul more gear. The bunks' durable padding prevents scuffs, scratches, or damage to your boat during transport. To prevent mold or mildew, the bunks have weather-resistant covers to repel moisture and water.

Submersible LED Trailer Lights

MPG535 LED tail lights

The DOT-approved tail lights on this trailer are fully submersible, so you don't have to worry about damaging the lights when loading and unloading your boat in water. Each tail light has brake, running light, and turn signal functions, as well as side marker lights and reflectors. In addition, these LED lights last longer, burn brighter, and require less power than incandescent bulbs.

CE48870 main harness to 4-way

The wiring for this trailer has a simple design, so it requires very little cutting or splicing to install. As you assemble the trailer, route the main wiring harness through the trailer tongue and down towards the body of the trailer. Then plug the 4-wire end of the tail light harness into the main harness.

Run the wires of the tail light harness along the sides of the trailer frame and attach the individual wires into the matching wires on the side marker lights and the tail lights using wire connectors. The wires are color-coded so that you can easily match them up - no circuit tester is required. Once all of the wires are secure, use the included clips to secure the harness to the frame.

CE48870 4-way plug

When you're ready to connect the trailer to your vehicle, simply plug the trailer end of the main harness into the 4-way flat connector on your vehicle.

Leaf Spring Suspension

MPG535 leaf spring suspension

This trailer includes a leaf spring suspension system to limit road shock while you tow. A sturdy steel axle runs beneath the trailer frame. The 2 slipper springs that support the axle flex to absorb the rough motion that can occur when driving over bumpy terrain. Also, the axle, spring hangers, and tie plate are galvanized to resist rust and corrosion.

Quick and Easy Trailer Hookup

MPG535 trigger style coupler

Hooking this trailer to your vehicle is quick and easy. The trailer's coupler connects to a 2" hitch ball, and the included safety chains act as an emergency measure if the coupler accidentally disconnects from your hitch ball. A rubber coated lift handle is mounted to the coupler to provide a solid grip for lifting or maneuvering the trailer. Finally, the skid plate on the underside of the trailer tongue keeps the coupler from touching the ground.

This trailer is awesome! It can suit many needs for its weight capacity as long as you are capable of securing the load properly. I use it to haul two 12.5' kayaks. With everything loaded we're hauling about 250lbs and it rides nice even for a light load. Following instructions to construct it was straight forward enough although do allow yourself plenty of time and patience! Have had it for about 18 months now and its seen nearly 1k miles and it is really doing great. The replacement parts like spare wheels, lighting, and wiring are easily found online or at big hardware stores. Really a great trailer with easy repairability making it a good choice to have for a long time as long as its well taken care of.

by:

Love being able to simply toss the kayaks on and go. Beats the heck out of putting onto roof. This model in pretty light so it does bounce a bunch on bumpy roads which is mostly what we have around here.

by:

The EcoLight Trailer has been perfect for my needs. It got to the point where putting two kayaks on my 2019 Jeep was getting too difficult. My wife @ 5'4" couldn't really help. I have two 12' Wilderness Pungo kayaks. The trailer is easy to move around manually with or without the kayaks aboard. While the assembly took awhile, it was a very methodical process. Very logical.
Two cautions: The directions tell you to lay out all the pieces before you begin. Do it, it will save time! Make sure you check how the decals will look when you turn the frame over. Mine are all upside down. It gives it a classic look, however.

by:

Great tandem trailer for hauling kayaks. It's not difficult to assemble, but it will take you a good half day to put it all together. Watch the Youtube video before assembly as it will give you a few nice tips. Super sturdy, excellent tiedown straps that keep the kayaks immobile even on bumpy roads. Highly recommend!!

by:

Two leaf springs have flattened out. Replace them both times. Not happy with the quality.

by:

Product as advertised, customer service excellent, haven't used it yet but so far so good

by:

Trailer fits all my needs

by:

'You get what you pay for'. The quality of the materials and fabrication made the assembling enjoyable without having to force pieces to 'make then fit'. Studying the instructions first, then going slow, made my trailer go together without issue. If I had it to do over again I would buy a Malone trailer without hesitation. Thank you for making such a quality product!

by:

It's perfect. Supports 4 kyaks which includes two peddle kyaks. Easy to load durable. We only wish there was a storage box for paddles and life vests. Otherwise couldn't be happier. Husband built in an hour.everything drilled perfect and all pieces and parts undamaged.

by:

I'm still waiting for the Light Kit and wireing that was missing in my order and after looking through the boxes, I found a Notice, that the wireing, LED Light kit and License plate holder would be sent to me as soon as it was received by Malone. My Kayaks have been sitting Idle for 3 weeks and still no kit!

by:

I’m very pleased with this trailer. The quality far exceeded my expectations. I will use it to transport my two 14 foot kayaks as I don’t feel like hoisting them to the roof of my car anymore. I am not mechanically inclined and was a bit intimidated when it arrived in three boxes. However the step by step instructions guided me through the assembly process and I put it all together over the course of a long afternoon.

by:

The Malone EcoLight trailer is great. I’ve had it for a year now and it’s really helpful. My only issue (but not enough to go down to a 4-star rating) is that the rubber on the V-Style carriers started partially coming off when I first started using it. It doesn’t really cause a problem, however, buyers of the trailer itself might want to consider getting the version that has no carriers included, because you can put just about any style of carriers on it, like J-Style carriers.

I’m including a picture of my kayaks on the trailer. I store them bottom-side up because I don’t have anything covering the cockpits.

by:

Looks like this will be a great trailer. All parts were there when I opened the boxes and there were no damaged parts. Only problem was that the Malone label and specs label on the tongue bar were installed upside down.

by:

I was able to assemble in a couple hours. Directions were adequate. I got the storage container also and it will be nice for storing the padding and tie down straps. Looking forward to trying it out. Nice product.

by:

Very nice trailer, a great addition to our kayaking accessories. Easy to assemble and makes transporting our kayaks in and out of the water a breeze. No more trying to secure them to our vehicle roof or extender. Very happy with our purchase.

by:

I really like my Kayak trailer. It was easy to assemble And tie down our Kayaks. No more lifting it on top of our Mazda SUV. The trailer is very light and bouncy on the freeway. I need to add some extra weight to keep it from bouncing so much. It works great for speeds below 55MPH. Thank you. Just a reminder- you will probably need to license it, I didn’t think of that extra expense.
Thank you

by:

We don't have our truck any longer and can't transport our kayaks on our cars. This trailer is perfect for our needs. I just assembled it two days ago and haven't used it yet, but I think it will be great. The assembly instructions were good, but even the updated ones need to be updated a little: the new type wiring harness was easy, but the instructions showed the process for the old one and the frame side bars had more holes than the ones shown in the manual or video, which was a little confusing as to where the middle frame crossbar goes. But all-in-all, assembly went smooth.

PERFECT! I carry my tandem kayak effortlessly, and I was able to easily retrofit a bicycle rack next to the kayak rails. I love it.

by:

My Malone Ecolight Sport Trailer for my `heavy 12' sit-on-top fishing kayak is perfect for my fishing trips. I get lots of compliments on both my Kayak and trailer. People can't believe the trailer was a kit. I'm not an expert handi-man, but I had no trouble following the directions. A great buy!

by:

The entire experience from initial purchase to delivery and completed assembly was distinctly positive due to the customer service and support from etrailer. A minor delay in receiving 1 of 4 packages was deftly managed by the support team. Assembly was straight-forward with outstanding instructions and their follow-up to ensure I was satisfied was second to none!

by:

Just bought a new fishing kayak I needed some way of getting it and my wifes to the pond and this trailer was perfect, good qualityand great price. Best of all it comes from my state .

by:

Etrailer takes care of my trailer needs. This kayak carrier is well built!
Easy to assemble but would definitely watch the video. It goes step by step and answers any questions you might have. Great product and am looking forward on pulling it to the lake

by:

I purchased this trailer to haul around my new pedal powered fishing kayak because it is too heavy for one person to handle. The trailer has worked out great, it makes it easy to launch and retrieve my kayak. The trailer was easy to put together and have no issues since purchasing it online.

  • Recommended Spare Tire And Mount For The Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer
Hey Chuck, Malone has a spare tire and mount for the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer for a Heavy Kayak # MAL73FR with part # MAL33FR. It's just a simple U-bolt that you'll use to clamp the wheel to the frame of the trailer, just like the picture below.

  • Kayak Trailer That Will Fit In Garage With 12' Of Space for Trailer And Kayak
Hey Joe! Are you trying to store the trailer with the kayak mounted on it in your garage? The Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL73FR you were looking at won't fit with the bunks but the Malone EcoLight # MAL53FR without the bunk boards will. The trailer itself is 10' 9" long and could work with a different carrier style like the SeaWing # MPG107MD or MegaWing # MPG207. However, it is likely it wouldn't fit with the kayak hanging off the back depending on how it is sitting on the carrier....

Hey Dean, Since the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL73FR uses a different crossbar design. the frame just isn't really set up to be able to use the MicroSport to LowBed Conversion Tubes # MAL33TR cleanly. Could you possibly make it happen? Probably (not much can't be done with a good U-Bolt), but it's not something that Malone is going to give the okay on and anything that goes wrong wouldn't be covered under warranty. The instructions do not specify exactly where you need to place them but overall the bunks that come with this are 7 feet long.

  • Availability of Bunks for Yakima LowRider
Hey Paul! Yakima doesn't really have a good way to mount bunks on the LowRider # Y82QD. There really aren't brackets to mount bunks in the T-slots either. What most LowRider owners choose to use is the Yakima BigCatch Kayak Roof Rack # Y04091. If you really want to use bunk boards, you will have to decide on the length you need, get some bunk brackets, and then U-bolts appropriately sized for the HD bars to mount them.
