Question:
I’m looking to rebuild my boat trailer Kodiak 225 brake calipers. I would like to use silicone base dot 5 brake fluid. Is there any issue with doing so? Thank You

Expert Reply:
The Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper 3,500 lbs to 6,000 lbs # KDBC225S and similar finishes will require the Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper Rebuild Kit for 3,500 lb to 6,000 lb Trailer Brakes # KDBC225KIT which will give you all the seals, bolts, bushings, and piston needed. Once rebuilt the system can use Dot 5 brake fluid but only after removing all previous fluid and flushing the system. Dot 5 is not compatible with Dot 3 or 4 so a complete flush or new parts are required.
I also recommend using the ceramic brake pads # K225CP or the stainless steel backing plate pads # K225CPSS.
