Question:

Can this carrier be used without the folding bar? Can the center support bar just be ed directly into the trailer hitch and used that way? Thanks

The etrailer Folding Cargo Carrier # e98874 provides a folding function thanks to the hinge mechanism in its 2-inch shank .. This is an integral part of the carrier and it cannot be removed. The center-positioned square bar that is visible at the rear edge of the carrier is not equivalent in strength to the shank, and while it does resemble a receiver opening on a hitch it cannot be used to mount the carrier in a hitch nor for any other type of hitch accessory.

Before you select a carrier you will want to note the distance from the hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of the vehicle as this affects the fit of the carrier.
