Question:

I have a 2014 F-150 Raptor SVT I would like to tow behind 42foot Winnebago Motorhome. What are your recommendations to set this up? Also, will miles register while towing?

To flat tow your 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, you will need base plates, a tow bar, wiring, safety cables, and a supplemental braking system.

For the base plate for your SVT Raptor, I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms # BX2630. These base plates feature hidden reinforcements, meaning that less of the bracket will show, and the removable arms help keep a clean look for the truck when not being towed. The tow hook will need to be removed to install these base plates and some minor drilling is required.

The tow bar I recommend is the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar # BX7380. This is a motorhome mount tow bar that will store on the motorhome when not in use. The Alpha has a weight capacity of 6,500 pounds. The required safety cables are included with this tow bar.

The tow wiring is needed so your vehicle lights will work in sync with your motorhome lights. I recommend the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit # HM56000. This harness will install into the vehicle's existing wiring without cutting or splicing. I have attached an installation video for you.

The supplemental braking system I recommend is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. The Patriot applies the brakes in your towed vehicle proportionally to those of your motorhome. This system includes the breakaway device and mounts easily in towed vehicle. I have attached an installation video of the Patriot.

Additionally, you may need a wiring extension to connect the wiring on your F-150 Raptor to the wiring on your motorhome. I have linked a page that will show you all of our wiring extensions. In order to tow your vehicle level, a high-low adapter may also be needed. I have linked all of our high low adapters for you as well.

When it comes to miles on the vehicle while flat towing, miles will register on a vehicle that uses an older style analog odometer. However, with newer digital odometer displays, miles typically will not accumulate when being flat towed.
