Question:
Hi, This is a follow up question regarding my 2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. I am considering the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2, but would like to get one of the hitch cargo carrier for my motorcycle. The motorcycle weighs about 540 pounds and I was wondering if my truck would be capable of toting this type of bike. If not, do you have any other recommendations? Thanks!

Expert Reply:
Although we do offer tray-style motorcycle carriers, the 400-500 lb tongue weight capacity of the hitch, which is the maximum downward force that can safely be applied, would be exceeded by the weight of your bike. This would cause the hitch or its attachment points on the truck to fail while you're transporting the bike, which would be very bad.
A small trailer like # K2MMT5X7 would be a good alternative. Or, you could carry the bike in the bed of your truck using a ramp like part # EM07464, assist straps # 06303 and ratchet straps like # EM34416.
