Can I Drill Holes in the Brackets of the Trailer Hitch Receiver to Match RV Frame Holes?
Updated 01/23/2020 | Published 09/08/2017 >
Question:
C13701 curt adjustable hitch The video for this item number c13701 says the holes are drilled in the mounting brackets at 8 and 5/8 inches on center To avoid drilling new holes in my RV frame may I simply drill new holes in the hitch mounting brackets? I ask this because my RV has predrilled frame holes on 6.5 inch centers. If I may do this I wont have to drill two new holes in my RV frame

I definitely see the logic in drilling holes in the mounting bracket of the Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch Receiver - 18"-51" Wide - 2" Drop - Class III - 2" # C13701 versus the frame of your RV, however it isn't that easy. If you were to move the bracket attachment holes, then you would minimize the weight capacity and stability of the trailer hitch receiver as well as void the warranty on the hitch.
The installation would be easier for sure, but I can't recommend going this route as the tongue weight capacity of the hitch would be most effected and would greatly inhibit your ability to carry or tow with this hitch.
