Tammie P. is the best We discussed my needs for a new lock and it was no problem at all.I needed another lock keyed as my other one's and got exactly what I needed. Great product ,sturdy ,easy to use. I've had two other ones for about a year and they work well and look great. I know I will be using these for years to come, hassle free and would recommend this lock pin for sure. Thanks Tammie, Great Job 718086

Ask the Experts about this etrailer Trailer Hitch Lock

  • Does Hitch Pin Lock Have a Normal Use
There is not necessarily a specific lifespan that can be counted on with hitch lock like your Blue Ox Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches # BX8858. If it gets used heavily and a lot of stress on it then a lock can wear down quicker than those that are used somewhat sparingly, but less than a year old is not a lot of time for the issues you are having. There are hitch locks for a 2" hitch that have warranties, such as the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880 and Bulldog Lifelong...

  • How To Prevent Trailer Hitch Pin Lock From Seizing
I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having with the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock part # e98880. The main way you are going to be able to preserve it is to make sure you keep the dust cover, Replacement Dust Cover for Deadbolt Hitch Lock part # e98923 over the keyhole. In addition to keeping the key hole covered I would A) spray some grease part # L11363 down in the keyhole every couple of months and B) insert the key and turn the lock core back and forth every couple of months as...

  • Lock and Anti-Rattle Device That Can be Used with Solid Shank
While you can both lock your accessory or ball mount as well as use an anti-rattle device, there isn't an option for a single device that will do both. For a solid shank what I recommend is using a simple hitch receiver lock, the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880 with the Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp # 325-GH-033, both of which are for 2" trailer hitches. These are also available if you have a 1-1/4" hitch (Lock # e98879, Clamp # RM-061-125) or 2-1/2" hitch (Lock # e98881,...

  • Availability of 6 Trailer Hitch Locks That Are Keyed Alike
There absolutely are trailer hitch locks available you can get keyed alike. If you have a 2 inch receiver you need # e98880 and for a 2-1/2 inch receiver you need # e98881. You'll only need to choose "Keyed Alike" from the drop-down box on the product page. Both of these locks have gotten tremendous reviews from our customers that have used them; I've added links to video reviews of each lock for you to take a look at.

  • Can Trailer Hitch Lock # e98880 Work Instead of a Pin
The Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880 that you referenced is rated for a Class III and Class IV, however, my technical contact at the manufacturer does not recommend using this lock in any other application than the intended purpose which is in a trailer receiver. I also spoke to my technical contact at Tow Ready and he informed me that Tow Ready Hitch Lock # 5201 would work.

  • Best Hitch Lock Recommendation for Towing a Trailer
The most popular option we have that has the highest ratings is the Deadbolt hitch part # e98880. It'll span the 2-1/2 inch outside measurement you need. It's double-chrome plated to resist rust and it's also made by Deadbolt right here in the USA so you know it's good quality. I attached a review video for you to check out that shows it working in a 2 inch hitch like what you have.

  • What Is The Weight Capacity Of Trailer Hitch Pin
Hitch Pins like the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, part # e98880, do not have a weight capacity listed. These are made of 5/8 inch diameter steel and other components you are towing with would break before one of these hitch pins would. This hitch pin has an overall length of 6 inches and is designed to fit 2 inch receivers. This hitch pin has a covered key slot to help prevent corrosion. I have attached a link to a product review video for this hitch pin you can check out.

  • Is A Pin and Clip and a Lock Needed To Install a Hitch Cover On A Trailer Hitch
Yes, you do need a hitch pin and clip like the Pin and Clip, # PC3, or a lock like the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, # e98880, to keep it in the hitch. You do not need both of them. A hitch cover gets inserted into the 2 inch receiver hitch. Then either the pin and clip or the receiver lock would be inserted through both the hole in the hitch and the wire brackets on the back of the hitch cover to keep it in the hitch. The lock uses a key to open it and is a good choice to prevent...

Some will recommend trying a torch to heat the lock, but that will just mess up the tumblers and you will have to cut it off eventually.
