Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack In Use

The Yakima HoldUp is a premium, tray-style bike rack that lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. This rack is specifically designed to carry bikes with big tires and wide handlebars, but it will carry just about any bike, including those with wheels from 20" to 29", carbon frames, disc brakes, thru axles, or full suspensions.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Yakima 8002443 HoldUp Bike Rack Large Front Wheel Holders

The HoldUp is easy to load, even if your bikes have monster wheels. The deep, contoured front wheel cradles accommodate just about any wheel out there, and the pivoting arms with StrongArm technology ensure that your bikes are held firmly in place.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Ratcheting Arm

To load a bike, simply place your front wheel in the holder, rotate the pivoting arm up and over the wheel, and press down firmly on the ratcheting hook. To release the hook, simply press the built-in red button and slide the hook up and off your wheel.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Adjustable Rear Wheel Cradles

Large rear wheel holders allow the HoldUp to accommodate a wide variety of bike wheelbases. These wheel holders pivot front to back, adjusting automatically to your wheel size - no need for sliding and tightening. Secure the wheels in place with the ratcheting straps built into each holder.

Yakima HoldUp Ratcheting Arm No Frame Contact

Mounting bikes by the wheels helps prevent any scratches or scuffs to the paint. The ratcheting hooks are padded, however, so they won't mark your wheels. And the pivot mechanisms in the arms are overbuilt to ensure they keep functioning smoothly over a lifetime of hard use.

Fully Adjustability Bike Trays

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Adjustable Bike Trays

The wheel trays on the HoldUp are fully adjustable to ensure that you have all the space you need when mounting bikes with mammoth handlebars, such as a 29er. To adjust a wheel tray, loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base and slide the tray left or right to achieve the desired spacing. Retighten the bolts and you're ready to roll with optimum handlebar clearance and no fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Complete Security

Yakima 8002443 HoldUp Bike Rack Built-in Cable Locks

The HoldUp has a cable lock built into the end of each pivoting arm. These cables loop through your bike frames and attach to posts on the bike rack arms to secure your bikes in place. The cables store in the arms when not in use.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Locking Hitch Pin

The rack also has a HitchLock hitch pin that allows you to lock the rack to your vehicle. The threaded pin also works as an anti-rattle device to reduce noise and movement of the rack when it's mounted in your trailer hitch receiver.

The cable locks and HitchLock hitch pin include keyed-alike Same Key System (SKS) lock cores. These cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima products keyed alike.

Tilting Design and Compact Storage

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Folded for Storage

The HoldUp stores more compactly than similar platform-style racks, and features a spring-loaded pin at the base that lets you fold the rack up against the rear of your vehicle when it's not in use. First rotate the front wheel holders inward and tilt the rear wheel holders inward, then rotate the pivot arms down and use the ratcheting hooks to secure the arms to the rear wheel holders. Once the arms are in place, pull the pin and fold the rack up against your vehicle.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Tilted for Rear Cargo Access

The same pin tilts the rack down, while fully loaded, so you can gain access to your vehicle's rear cargo area without having to unload your bikes.

  • Can an Adapter be Used to Carry a 2 Bike Rack in 1-1/4 Receiver on a Mazda CX-5
I do have a solution for you to carry both of your bikes with your Mazda CX-5 but unfortunately an adapter like part # HTAD isn't the way that I recommend going. Not only does it cut the weight rating of your trailer hitch in half, it will also cause your bike rack to have more movement during travel. Since we don't carry Allen bike racks we don't have an adapter so instead I recommend changing out your bike rack for something like the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 which fits a 1-1/4" receiver...

  • How to Use the 1-1'4" Yakima HoldUp with a 2" Receiver
To convert your Yakima HoldUp 1-1/4" Bike Rack, part # Y02445, to be used with a 2" receiver, you absolutely can use the Replacement Spine for Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2" Hitches, part # 8890277. This spine is perfectly compatible with your HoldUp and is the recommended way of using that rack with a 2" receiver. I've linked to a video review of it below.

  • How To Carry Two 50 lb Mountain Bikes With A 2017 Nissan Maxima
Hello Mark, thanks for reaching out. The only way to carry two 50 lb mountain bikes with your 2017 Nissan Maxima will be to install a trailer hitch, and use a hitch mounted platform bike rack. Trunk mount bike racks are just not strong enough to carry 50 lb bikes. The highest per-bike weight capacity for a trunk rack is 35 lbs. So even if you were to Saris Bones EX 3 and do only two bikes on it, you would still be over the 35 lb per bike limit which would be highly unsafe and dangerous....

Hello, The adapter 8890174 (discontinued) that you referenced is specifically designed to fit the Yakima Flipside, DoubleDown and StickUp Bike Carriers. If you can send me a picture of your bike rack I can confirm if it is one of these or if we have an adapter that will work for your application.

For your Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" Hitches - Platform Style - Tilting # Y02445, the Replacement 2" Hitch Adapter for Yakima Carriers # Y8890174 will not work according to my contact at Yakima and it is no longer available. Instead you would need the Replacement Tongue for Yakima HoldUp Bike Racks # 8880580 which will also allow you the ability to expand the rack using the Plus 2 2-Bike Add-On for Yakima HoldUp for 2" Hitches # Y02446 if you desire.

You are definitely on the right track when it comes to not wanting to use an adapter for your bike rack. • Can Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack with 1-1/4" Shank Be Used for 4-Bike Rack
Thanks for reaching out, Ray! The Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # Y02445 isn't compatible with the 2-Bike Add-On because is has the 1-1/4" shank that isn't strong enough for a 4-bik setup. Yakima discontinued the HoldUp line of bike racks so the only way for you to use the Add-On is if you swap out the spine with the Replacement Spine # 8890277 so it fits with a 2" hitch that's more capable.

  • Which Replacement Pull Pin for Yakima Hold Up Bike Rack
I reached out to my contact at Yakima and they mentioned that the only pins that came on the Yakima HoldUp were 3/4" in diameter and that the Replacement Pull Pin for Yakima HoldUp Plus 2 # Y8880153 should work just fine for you. • Can The Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack Be Used With A Class 1 Hitch?
Not only is the size of the trailer hitch receiver important, but also the class is important. The Yakima Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches # Y02445 is only to be used on class 2 receivers so it will not work on your class 1 receiver. This is for a couple reasons, one being that class 1 receivers are not designed to hold the weight of some accessories, such as this class 2 bike rack. The second reason is that some hitch manufacturers actually weld in a stopper which blocks...

Since this replaces the shank and isn't using an adapter it will help prevent any play that you might have with an adapter. • Can I Use the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 on an E-Bike with Fenders?
I have a great solution for you. Unfortunately, the Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches # Y02445 does not have a long enough ratcheting arm to allow you to attach your KBO e-bike to the frame tubes. With that being said, here at etrailer, we do not recommend using a wheel-mounted attachment style with bikes that have fenders. The reason why we discourage this is because the ratcheting arm could shift during transport and potentially crack or damage the fenders. However,...

Yes, the bolt will tighten all the way up to being flush with the hitch opening. Check out the pictures I attached that show what it will look like once installed. You might try removing the rack from your hitch and seeing if it will thread all the way in, if so then you know the problem is somewhere on the hitch. If not, then the problem is in the rack and the threads of the rack should be inspected.

  • Converting Yakima Holdup Bike Rack to Fit 2 inch Hitch
It would seem like a simple fix to just use a sleeve adapter with the Yakima # Y02445 to convert it to a 2 inch hitch but Yakima says that using adapters like this will void the warranty of the rack so we do not endorse that. Only safe recommendation we can make is the tongue replacement part # 8880580 you mentioned which is going to be more stable than a sleeve adapter anyway.
