Question:

Hi, To confirm, this replacement tongue is for the Yakima Holdup spine and will allow me to convert my 1 1/4” Holdup spine to adapt to my 2” hitch receiver, correct? Is this a Yakima OEM product or is it made by someone else? Also, is it the same length and height of the original? I ask this because after looking at several diagrams it looks like it may not be quite as tall once installed. And once installed it will allow me to add the +2 to my Holdup rack so I can carry bikes?

For your Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" Hitches - Platform Style - Tilting # Y02445, the Replacement 2" Hitch Adapter for Yakima Carriers # Y8890174 will not work according to my contact at Yakima and it is no longer available.

Instead you would need the Replacement Tongue for Yakima HoldUp Bike Racks # 8880580 which will also allow you the ability to expand the rack using the Plus 2 2-Bike Add-On for Yakima HoldUp for 2" Hitches # Y02446 if you desire.

The Replacement Tongue for Yakima HoldUp Bike Racks # 8880580 is a Yakima OEM product. I reached out to my contact at the manufacturer and he said it is basically the same length and height as the 1-1/4 inch you currently have with the obvious difference being the thickness of the tubing. He said you will need to replace the hitch bolt you currently have with the Replacement Hitch Hardware for Yakima HoldUp or BigHorn Bike Racks Manufactured in 2008 or Later # 8890260 to fit the 2 inch receiver. He also said if you want to add the Plus 2 # Y02446, then you would also need to replace the spine of your current rack as the 1-1/4 inch spine doesn't accept the add on. The Replacement Spine for Yakima Plus 2 2-Bike Add-On for Yakima HoldUp # Y8890279 would be needed. You can get these two parts (tongue and spine) together in the Replacement Spine for Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Black # 8890277. All of these are Yakima OEM parts. You can add the lock cores like # Y07204 to make sure everything is keyed alike if you add the Plus 2.
