RockyMounts 10003 MonoRail 2 Bike Rack

The RockyMounts MonoRail platform-style rack lets you easily carry 2 bikes using your 1-1/4" hitch. Ratcheting arms and adjustable wheel straps secure your bikes without contacting the frame. A front-mounted release lever allows you to tilt the rack down and gain access to your vehicle's rear cargo area, or it can fold the rack up for a simple storage solution. The included hitch lock secures the rack to your vehicle, and an integrated cable lock secures your bikes to the rack.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

RockyMounts 10003 MonoRail 2 Bike Ratcheting Arms

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 2 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply push the button on the hook and slide it firmly into place over the front wheel. The wheel hooks are coated for grip and work with tire diameters up to 29".

Pivoting Rear Wheel Cradles with Ratcheting Wheel Straps

RockyMounts MonoRail 3 Bike Rack Wheel Straps

The pivoting rear-wheel cradle allows the rack to accommodate bikes with wheel bases up to 48" long. The cradle includes a ratcheting, rubber strap to hold your bike's rear wheel securely in place on the tray.

RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Rack with Fat Bike Straps

The MonoRail also comes with a wheel strap extensions that attach to the standard ratcheting straps to increase the usable length and secure wider tires. This allows the cradles to hold fat bike tires up to 5" wide.

Adjustable Bike Trays

RockyMounts MonoRail Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and back trays adjust 3" side-to-side to ensure you have enough space when loading your bikes. Just remove the bolts where the tray attaches to the bottom of the rack, slide the trays left or right to achieve the desired spacing, and then reinstall the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Front-Mounted Release Lever for Easy Tilting

RockyMounts 10003 MonoRail 2 Bike Rack Tilted

The front-mounted release lever allows you to easily tilt the MonoRail. The rack tilts down with or without your bikes loaded for convenient access to your vehicle's rear cargo area

RockyMounts 10003 MonoRail 2 Bike Rack Folded

The lever also lets you fold the rack up for storage when you're not transporting the bikes. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Easy Installation with Threaded Hitch Pin

RockyMounts MonoRail Hitch Mount Bike Rack

The MonoRail installs quickly and easily with a threaded, anti-rattle hitch pin. Simply slide the shank into your 1-1/4" hitch receiver, insert the threaded hitch pin, and tighten it down with the included tool. This will reduce noise and movement while the rack is installed.

Complete Security

RockyMount MonoRail Built-In Cable Lock

The rack comes with a hitch lock and a cable lock to deter theft of both the rack and your bikes. The cable lock wraps around your bikes' frames and secures to the rack with the included lock core.

RockyMounts MonoRail Hitch Lock

The hitch lock simply snaps onto the hitch pin and locks in place. The cable and hitch lock are keyed alike, so you'll only need 1 key for both locks.

Video Transcript for RockyMounts MonoRail Bike Rack Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the RockyMounts MonoRail platform style two bike rack for inch and a quarter hitches. Part number RKY10003. The RockyMounts MonoRail is a perfect fit for your class one or class two inch and a quarter hitch. This is a great option because a lot of platform two bike racks require a class two inch and a quarter hitch. This one's gonna work regardless of what class your inch and a quarter hitch is. It has all the features that you'd expect from a platform style bike rack with a little more.

Unlike the center mass file that holds our bikes by their top tube, this one holds out bikes with zero frame contact. We have a wheel hook that holds our front wheel in place. That puts down pressure into our front wheel cradle, securing our bike. The rear wheel is held in place by a ratchet strap. As you can see it's gonna work with a wide variety of bikes. We've got a mountain bike here, a road bike.

It'll also work with fat bikes with up to a five inch wide tire. And of course it'll work with women's, children's and bikes with alternative frame styles. Unlike many bike racks it includes a cable lock. This is gonna prevent anyone from removing our bikes from our bike rack. It also includes an anti-rattle hitch lock, unlike some other bike racks that just include the anti-rattle bolt.

This is gonna prevent anyone from removing the bike rack from our inch and a quarter hitch receiver. Both the anti-rattle lock and the cable lock are keyed alike. One of the fairly common features of a platform style bike rack is that it tilts away so we can get access to our rear hatch. This one's no different. Simply pull the T pin here at the rear.

As you can see, got more than enough room to get in there and remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything I might have with us on our trip.I've gone ahead and removed our bikes so we can go over some additional features. Here you can see our extra wide cradles and how they're gonna work with our fat bike, mountain bike and road bike. Our ratcheting wheel hook is gonna work with tire diameters between 20 and 29 inches. It's coated for grip and so it won't harm or scratch your bike. Our rear wheel cradle pivots to work with bikes with different size wheel bases. It'll work with a wheel base up to 48 inches wide. When not in use both our wheel hook and cradle fold down. Another common feature for nicer platform racks is they have the ability to fold up against your vehicle for compact storage. Now this is ideal for pulling in your garage or in a tight parking spot. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when folded down is 12 inches. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the farthest part of the rack when folded down is 37 1/4 inches. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when folded up is six and 3/4 of an inch. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hold to the farthest part of the rack when folded up is 17 1/2 inches. It's made out of a durable steel and aluminum construction. It has a black powder coat finish, so it's gonna be resistant to rust and corrosion. It features a weight capacity of 60 pounds per bike and it features a limited lifetime warranty. One of our customers, Randy says, "Received the RockyMount MonoRail two bike rack and immediately installed on the vehicle. Install took about 20 minutes and was easy. I loaded my two heaviest bikes on the rack and drove over rough conditions on purpose. Very little shake and no rattle like my previous rack. No damage to the bikes at all. Plenty of space between bikes and tailgate of vehicle. Drop down of bikes when loaded is a big plus. Overall great value, quality rack." Another bike rack designed specifically for inch and a quarter hitches is the Yakima HoldUp. Part number Y02445. The MonoRail works with both class one and class two hitches, where the HoldUp only works with class two hitches. The HoldUp does not work with fat tire bikes, but unlike the MonoRail it can work with electric bikes. At 37 pounds the MonoRail is going to be easier to handle than the 49 pound HoldUp.It comes with all the tools you need to assemble and install it. You're also gonna get two keys and strap adapters for securing your fat bikes. It installs like all platform style hitch mounted bike racks. You'll insert your shank into the receiver tube, lining up your pin holes, you'll insert and tighten down your anti-rattle bolt and you'll put the lock on the opposite side. It's designed so you can easily load up your bikes. We'll open up the cradle and we'll undo our rear wheel strap. Then I'll fold out my arm and I can grab my bike. We'll set that front wheel in the front wheel cradle and then we'll set the rear in the rear wheel cradle. Now as we set that rear wheel in place you can see how it pivots to accommodate our bike's wheel base. Then you'll raise up your wheel hook. Now you're gonna want this to land right in front of your fork or your brakes, whatever comes first. Bring it down, once it makes contact give a good push and then it supports the bike. For your rear wheel strap you'll of course wanna go between your spokes. Now if you have a fat bike this is where you'll wanna install that rear wheel adapter. But for right now we'll go right to our ratchet, pull it down to where it's nice and tight. I've gone ahead and loaded up my second bike. It installs the same way as the first bike, and I've run my cable lock. For the cable lock I just ran it through my bike frames and then attached it at the attachment point. With everything loaded up and secured let's go ahead and take it out on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course let's first go into our inaudible 00:05:07. This is gonna show side to side action such as going around corners or your basic maneuvering. Then onto some speed bumps this is gonna simulate what it's like going over rough terrain, pulling in and out of a parking lot, or running over road debris. That's gonna complete our look at the RockyMounts MonoRail platform style two bike rack for inch and a quarter hitches. Part number RKY10003.

I just received this bike carrier today. Amazingly fast delivery. Simple assembly. I loaded bikes without a problem. The tilt works easily and allows ample access to the interior of my 2015 Grand Cherokee. Took a test drive and didn't notice any rattling or other unusual sounds. The first impression is all positive. Thanks eTrailer for your video reviews which helped greatly in making my purchase decision . 564674

This rack rocks! Has been used on 3 different vehicles, one which went nearly 5000 miles with 2 bikes on the whole time. Zero problems so far. Have had 2 29” mtb bikes on it; have had road bikes on it; and have had 20” and 24” kid bikes. All fit great. Have purchased add on kit for a third bike but haven’t used it yet. 678593

Review from a similar RockyMounts MonoRail in Hitch Bike Racks

We've had our bike rack a year now and find it very convenient to use and strong. The one problem I have is that when I have both bikes on and tilt it down to get into the trunk of our Subaru Outback, I can't lift it back up if it's in the locked position. I must have my husband do that. Having to ask him makes me feel like a whimp and in general, I'm pretty strong. I still gave it a 5 star because it's easy to load both bikes and it folds down nicely so it doesn't protrude out the back when no bikes are on it. 635062

Well built, solid bike rack. Like the additional strap extensions for fat bikes. Holds bike well. Only minor issue was that instructions did not reference the rear wheel straps, but easy to figure out. I like that the rack tilt allows access to the rear hatch of my Subaru Forester. 475321

working out great. Had issue with partial melt of one of the shepards hook melting due to proximity to my car exhaust. Able to get new part from manufacturer, repositioned hook, and all has been well since

First, etrailer is a fantastic retailer. Their videos are very informative and absolutely influenced my decision on both product and retailer. Super-fast shipping was a nice bonus. On to the carrier. I read many reviews and watched dozens of videos to help me. Here's what I came up with: 1: Value - this was by-far, the best bang for the buck. Not only was this the best price on this particular carrier, it is the best deal on a premium-quality unit with great versatility and wonderful features typically reserved for units hundreds of dollars more expensive. 2: Super solid. The locking anti-locking hitch pin eliminates side-to-side sway entirely. The locking arms and wheel straps do a fantastic job in keeping the bikes from wobbling. One note:. Thinner tires will be allowed an inch or so of travel due to the width of the locking arms and front wheel chock. Nothing that caused concern, though. 3: Easy assembly (though the paper instructions never mention the assembly of the wheel straps on the rear tray) 4: Tilt mechanism is the most convenient of any tray-type carrier. It worked great and the release if located right in hands reach. 5: fold-up is very effective and easy. Also comes in handy for storage in the garage. 6: expandable to accommodate 3 bikes. Overall, I am very satisfied with the quality of this unit and especially at this sale price. My wife has thanked me a dozen times already for replacing our old hanger-style carrier. This configuration makes it so much easier for her to mount her bike so she can ride with or without me. 454349

RockyMount makes a quality, full-featured bike rack at a very reasonable price. Rack accommodates any size tire, carries 3 bikes (extender for third bike included, as shown), bikes lock down tight and don't move much on dirt roads, rack tilts up easily when not in use, and down when loaded in order to access trunk, comes with a detached cable that can be locked to the frame, and a keyed security nut that locks the rack to the hitch receiver. I am very happy with this bike rack. It pairs very well with my Curt Trailer hitch and my 2016 Hyundai Tucson. Great package from etrailer.com, and they were one of the more outstanding online retailers I've ever dealt with. They have my business now. 493295

Second mountain biking season and this rack is great. Figure Ill still be hauling our bikes on it in another 10 years. It will probably last longer than several cars! Thanks for your great service and really tight operation. My review and recommendations stand, 100.

Exceptionally solid hitch mount / tray platform type bicycle carrier. I The instructions were very clear and complete - with one exception of the the tray straps and strap extenders (not shown/mentioned). Some basic assembly was required - again the directions were very clear and everything need was supplied in the package. I took my time and it only took 15 minutes. The bike rack is outstanding in design, quality of materials, construction and function. It's very solid in all 3 positions (carrying bikes, laid 'down' to open the tailgate, and 'stowed' in the up/close position when not carrying bikes. I've had bike racks from other 'big name' vendors - this Rocky Mounts rack is much better, and less expensive. 522596

Rack and hitch (Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" - 75560 - bought separately) came in perfect condition. Hitch was a little difficult to install but this had more to do with my car being 12 years old. Pro tip: lube the muffler hangers with WD40 and get some ramps to give you room under car to work. Quality is excellent. The rack itself is awesome. I fit my sons 24" MTB and my medium full suspension on there in under 60 seconds. I did have to adjust the tray to avoid some interference but that only took a minute or two. The rack is very solid and well built. Little to no wobble on the way to the trails which included a bumpy access road. Excellent value for the $ compared to racks with similar features. 572585

Review from a similar RockyMounts MonoRail in Hitch Bike Racks

First, a review of: etrailer.com: I chose to order my RockyMounts Bike Rack from etrailers.com because of their excellent, VERY detailed videos which show installing and using the rack. The videos also include an outside camera view of the rack as the vehicle drives around a test course which simulates various driving situations. Side to side maneuvers, speed bumps, etc. Once I made the purchase, etrailer.com was very prompt in sending me a confirmation of my order, and letting me know when the order shipped. They also followed up with me once the rack was delivered. I couldn't be more happy with etrailer.com and will always look to them first should I ever need to purchase any other type of car racks. And now, a review of the RockyMounts bike rack: I am also VERY happy with the RockyMounts Monorail 2 Bike Platform Rack. The bikes are extremely easy to load and once loaded are rock-solid. There was minimal (if any) movement of the bikes on the rack as I traveled. I have a Chrysler Pacifica minivan and getting into the back of the van *without* having to take the bikes off the rack was a critical feature. The RockyMounts rack makes this easy by tilting the platform down using the blue handle under the platform. The platform release is at the front of the platform, as you face it, so there are *no* gymnastics required to release the the platform. Just bend over, pull the lever towards you, tilt the bikes down, and that's it. I'm into the back of my minivan in under 15 seconds! I've owned three other style bike racks over the years – trunk mount, roof mount, and trailer hitch where the bikes hang down off a bar. The RockyMounts Platform Rack is definitely the easiest to load, and definitely the most stable rack of all these. I couldn't be happier with the rack. 721950

This rack is on the back of my 2008 24' Winnebago View. After traveling 7500 miles with two precious bikes on this rack, I can say it works, very well. One is a carbon frame and it is protected. The rack is on the heavy side but I can manage it solo. Loading and unloading bikes is quick and easy. Really great bike rack. It also works really well on my 2012 Honda CRV. 719063

The bike rack arrived in just three days..Instructions for assembly were very easy and the tools to put it together were included. It rides on the back of the MDC superbly, looks great, and is very easy to operate. Like another customer, I would have like the lock to be a bit more substantial, but it's functional. Truly pleased with the overall look, feel, and functionality. I would recommend it to anyone with one of two bikes to transport and I will probably get the add-on for the additional bike just in case. 702831

The Rockymounts Monorail 2 rack was easy to assemble with excellent instructions. Bike loading and unloading was a breeze. I have many bikes of different tire sizes that this accommodates well. Tilting the rack away for vehicle access was really easy.Stows on the vehicle and or in the garage nicely. If it had a tool-less hitch pin and heavier duty locks and I would have given it 5 stars. 695544

Review from a similar RockyMounts MonoRail in Hitch Bike Racks

This is the best value, feature and quality hitch mount. I bought a hanging unit that took me like 25 minutes to setup and load. This thing takes 5 minutes to load 2 bikes and install. It accepts fat bike tires 5" wide (and provides the extended straps free (Kuat doesn't) . The 2" version allows you to add another platform for 3 bikes total if needed in the future. The bike lock for the wheel and the wheel cups are high quality and are quick and easy to secure. I would say save $250 and take this over the highend version of Kuat. Plus if you buy the 1 bike extender the rocky mounts is cheaper too. The mount loads onto my equinox and sonata both very easily and the trucks/hatches can open no problems. 655343

This products was delivered rapidly after being ordered, so CUSTOMER SERVICE was EXCELLENT! The product was easily assembled and installed. The design and construction is robust, well designed, easy to operate, and relatively light weight as compared to some other car racks. Loading and securing the bikes is easy. This design is well suited to a “step-through” bike frame. We are VERY happy with this purchase. 633793

Review from a similar RockyMounts MonoRail in Hitch Bike Racks

I received the RockyMount MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack 2 inch today. I loaded the bikes on it and was pleased that it was as solid as advertised. The assembly instructions made the task very easy. When I was in the process deciding which brand rack to purchase, I had a couple conversations with the folk at RockyMounts who were very helpful. 503516

Review from a similar RockyMounts MonoRail in Hitch Bike Racks

Received RM MonoRail 2 bike Rack and immediately installed on vehicle. Install took about 20 minutes and was easy. I loaded my 2 heaviest bikes on rack and drove over rough conditions on purpose. Very little shake and no rattle like my previous rack. NO damage to bikes at all. Plenty of space between bikes and tailgate of vehicle. Drop down of bikes when loaded is a big plus. Overall great value for a quality rack! 484300

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Which is a Better Bike Rack Between the RockyMounts MonoRail and the Hollywood Racks TRS
  • Hollywood Racks makes a good bike rack. But with that said I am not impressed with the TRS # HR3000 or # HR3500. I find that the RockyMounts MonoRail # RKY10003 is the superior bike rack between the 2. I will say this about the TRS though; the hook design is compatible with bikes that wider forks compared to the MonoRail. The MonoRail is compatible with Class I hitches whereas the TRS is compatible with Class II only on the 1-1/4 inch side. Both are compatible with 2 inch hitches. All...

  • Comparing the Kuat Transfer 2 and RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Racks
  • I am personally a big fan of the Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TS02B for a few reasons. The first being that the center portion is open so you can walk right up inside of the rack and place your bikes in the cradles whereas for the RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY10003 you will have to stop at some point and lift the bike up and over the center section. The other reason I prefer the Kuat Transfer 2 is because it just has a more aesthetically pleasing look...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Carbon Fiber Bike on 2012 Mazda 3 Hatchback
  • All three bike racks you mentioned are quality racks but the best option for your 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback is the RockyMounts MonoRail Solo 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY10003; it will give you the best combination of ease of use and compatibility with your Mazda. The MonoRail is a wheel-mount bike rack so your brand new carbon fiber bike will be totally protected from any scratches - none of the rack is going to touch the frame. It is only 37 lbs which is the same weight as the Kuat Transfer...

  • Platform Bike Rack for 2 Bikes and a 2012 Toyota RAV4
  • For your needs the Saris Freedom # SA4412B is going to be the best option. I think you will really like this rack. First, it is very light weight at just 22-1/2 pounds. That makes it easy to install/remove from the trailer hitch. It can fit 1-1/4 inch (Class II) and 2 inch trailer hitches. It can be locked but you would need to add locking hitch pin # SA3022, sold separately. You will not need an adapter bar for the woman's bike frame. It measures 12 inches from the center of the hitch...

  • Recommended Wheel Mount Bike Rack With Locks for a 2014 Honda Accord
  • I do have an option for you but there is not a 2" trailer hitch available for your 2014 Honda Accord so there is no way to use the Hollywood Racks TRS SE 2-Bike Platform Rack part # HR3500. Instead, I recommend the RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY10003 which has all of the features that you liked and needed in the above; 60 lb per bike weight capacity, 1-1/4" trailer hitch compatibility, folding for storage, wheel mount, black in color, and it comes with both bike and...

  • Adapter Needed to Fit 1-1/4 RockyMounts MonoRail to a 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • The adapter sleeve that I recommend using is the Brophy Hitch Reducer # HT02. This will reduce your 2" hitch receiver to a 1-1/4" receiver that your RockyMounts MonoRail # RKY10003 can mount into. The adapter comes with a hitch pin and clip but I recommend also getting an anti-rattle locking hitch pin like part # 63232 to help reduce the play of your bike rack. I have attached some review videos for you to check out as well.

  • RockyMount MonoRail 2 Platform Rack for 2009 Honda CR-V
  • A hitch adapter like the Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" # HTAD allows you to use the 2" shank on the RockyMounts MonoRail 2 # RKY10004 on the 1-1/4" on your 2009 Honda CR-V, but using a hitch adapter of any type reduces the tongue weight on your hitch by 50%. You'll need to check your owner's manual to confirm but you likely have a Class I hitch with a 200-lb tongue weight, so using an adapter will only allow you to carry 100-lbs total safely on the hitch. Since the RockyMounts MonoRail...

  • The Replacement Rear Wheel Assembly # 8890281 can accommodate 20" - 29" wheel diameters and up to 2-1/2" in width. So the diameter works but your tire width is slightly too much. This is a replacement wheel assembly for the Yakima HoldUp Bike Racks # Y02445 and # Y02443. If you are in the market for a bike rack I can make a few recommendations for you. • Best Bike Rack for Two Biktrix Stunner LT Bikes
  • I would love to help but it is not advised to use a wheel mount bike rack with fenders so the RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY10003 is not your best option. Instead, I recommend taking a look at the Saris Freedom EX 2 Bike Platform Rack part # SA4412F. This option will allow for a 60 lb bike with up to 4-1/2" wide tires to be carried so there will be no issues with your two Biktrix Stunner LT bikes.
