Question:
Hi, I have the Yakima Holdup bike rack Y02445 , and I see that the replacement Tongue # 8880580 is recommended for using it in 2inch receiver. Why wouldnt a simple adapter work for this model ? Is there anything unique about this bike rack that would prevent it from using a simple adapter instead of replacing the tongue ?

It would seem like a simple fix to just use a sleeve adapter with the Yakima # Y02445 to convert it to a 2 inch hitch but Yakima says that using adapters like this will void the warranty of the rack so we do not endorse that.
Only safe recommendation we can make is the tongue replacement part # 8880580 you mentioned which is going to be more stable than a sleeve adapter anyway.
