Video Transcript for Review of Curt Trailer Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - C40001

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt 1 7/8 inch diameter hitch ball with the 3/4 inch diameter shank, and a 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball will provide the connection point for your 1 7/8 inch trailer's coupler, and will accept up to a 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. On the shank of the ball, has the fine threads on it that provide a nice tight, strong grip. And the dimensions on the shank, the length of it, it's gonna be right at 1 5/8 inches long, and the diameter on it is right at 3/4 of an inch. Now, this ball is constructed from a high strength hot forged steel, you can see it has a nice corrosion resistant chrome finish to it, and if you notice on the sides, the two flat ends here, these built-in wrench flats make it easy to hold the ball in place while you're tightening down the nut.

The nut itself as a zinc plated 1 1/8 inch size hex nut, and it comes with the lock washer for secure mounting to the ball mount. This is designed to fit ball mount platforms that are 3/8 inch to 5/8 inch thick, and when you install this, this shank will just drop through the hole in the platform. After it's through the platform, put your lock washer on there, put your nut on there, and then tighten it down to the correct specified torque. Again, the specs on this, the ball diameter is 1 7/8 inches, which is marked on the top, and the weight capacity is 2,000 pounds gross towing weight capacity, which is also marked on the top. But that should do it for the review on the Curt 1 7/8 inch diameter hitch ball with the 3/4 inch diameter shank, and the 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity..

Bought this Class I hitchball because the rest of my installation is Class I. Made sense at the time, but the 2” Class II ball is a tighter fit on the U-Haul trailers I rent, and that is probably better for the inevitable rattling. In the end this Curt ball is both good and cheap, and that is a winning combination for me.

Works great for my e-trailer kayak trailer, also used it for a U-haul tow from Sonoma County California to Gold Beach Oregon.

I moved from Arkansas to Washington State last year and towed a small UHaul with my 2017 Chevy Trax, which has the new hitch that I purchased from you. Everything worked great and I had no trouble whatsoever.

Untried as of yet but looks like a quality product.

Easy installation. Helps to have two people, however, I installed it alone with the help of jack stands. I highly recommend the Curt receiver. I have another Curt receiver on my 2011 Honda Accord that I also purchased from

I just finished hauling a load of bush and tree trimmings to the dump with my utility trailer. Attached is a close up photo of the receiver in use.

Received item as advertised in a timely manner. Will certainly do business again as needed in the future. Will certainly recommend.

The cost was cheaper than I could find elsewhere. No frills easy to install.

Still working

Just fine, shipped with the rest of the order and was on time.

Looks to be a quality hitch ball, easy to install.

Jim P.

I only use them a couple times a years, still work fine.

All the items in my order arrived today. Thanks for your continued follow-up on this order and the speedy shipping once you had the item on hand. I also appreciated the installation video and pictures on etrailer. com. I routinely recommend that my customers reference your website for install instructions and product explanation videos. Keep up the good worK.

The ball started to rust pretty quickly, even though I put a bit of grease on the ball and hitch before I ever used it. Functionally it is still a round hunk of metal that does it's just doesn't look very good.

Good products, reasonable prices

This is a very good product but the real story is the fantastic service and support you receive even in a problem install like I had on my Fit. Three people helped me with the semi custom install I needed. Now perfect. Repeat customer, second install great products and company

Easy installation, everything fit as advertised. Works great too.

I bought this ball and drawbar to attach to my Polaris Sportsman ATV to pull my trailer around. The drawbar was a perfect fit to raise up the trailer and level it. Well made product, welded nicely to the smaller receiver bar and is perfect for what I needed. I would recommend this product.

Shipped and arrived quickly, and appears to be of good quality. A suggestion: like many others, I don't have a socket big enough for the nut, and my torque wrench only goes to 80 ft-lb (the spec calls for 160). I will have to go to a local garage and have them tighten the ball onto the ball mount. I would have been happy to throw eTrailer a couple of bucks or so to have them do this for me when they filled the order. Please consider offering this service.

Nice quality 1-7/8" hitch ball with short shank that is long enough for the ball mount, but does not hang below the nut by much.

Was a complete fit, goes past my bumper. The diverlery was fast. I'm completely satisfied with your product and will recommend to my friends.

It is a ball. Nice and shiny.
To torque
it, install it on the drawbar, put the drawbar into a hitch, and torque.

This ball is made in China not USA as advertised. Steve did take care of it when I called and said he would have specs changed. All in all a good place to shop hopefully they will get another manufacturer for ball hitches made in USA

Who cares the other part is useless

Nice quality, easy install, great on line directions and light kit, just plug and done

Fit perfectly, good finish!

These folks have great communication, and the best prices I've been able to find for the products I ordered. When I got the items, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The kits are complete and have everything needed. I'm quite happy with

  • Recommended Ball Mount for Trailer That Is Further From My Vehilce
Good news, I can help. What you will want to do is get a different ball mount. The current ball mount that you have # C45571 has a length of 7-1/4" from center of hitch pin hole to center of ball hole and a rise of 2-5/8" (from top of inside of hitch opening to start of vertical curve). It also has a 1-7/8" ball. I recommend getting the 9-1/4" long # C45520 ball mount and 1-7/8" # C40001 ball. This ball mount setups will give you the clearance from the bumper you need to tow your trailer...

  • Recommended Ball Mount For 2012 Ford Mustang V6 Towing Trailer W/ 17" Coupler Height
Where we installed the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11210 on a similar 2014 Ford Mustang V6 we found that from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver measured 10-1/2". As long as the tires on your 19" wheels are the same overall height as the factory tires on your Mustang, this measurement will be the same for your vehicle. I recommend the Curt Class I Drawbar - 5" Rise - 11-9/16" Long - 2,000 lbs # C45025 as this is the most rise available...

  • Trailer Hitch for a 1998 Ford Taurus with Dual Exhaust
I spoke with my contact over at Curt and he said that for a 1998 Ford Taurus with dual exhaust trailer hitch # C12232 will fit. If you plan on doing some towing the correct ball mount is # C45522 and for a 1-7/8 inch ball use # C40001 and for a 2 inch ball use # C40018. For trailer wiring use # HM40565 if you have a sedan and use # HM48895 if you have a wagon.

  • Recommended Trailer Towing Ball Mount for a 2005 Scion xB
It sounds like you're looking for a ball mount to use on a 2005 Scion xB and if that's the case then we do have some good options for you but it would be best to determine what trailer hitch is used first. We currently only offer one option; the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11487 and in which case you would use the Curt Class II Drawbar part # C45521. The Curt Class II Drawbar would then require the Curt Hitch Pin and Clip part # F-4 and the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball part # C40001 or 2"...

  • Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback
I looked up the towing capacity of your 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback online and it appears to have a 750 lb towing capacity. Which if you can stay under that you'd be totally fine. The Curt hitch part # C11400 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and would be a great option. It has more capacity than you'd need, but it would still work well to tow up to 750 lbs. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # C59236 which is a confirmed fit and would work well. For...

Based on the information I could find on your 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser it has a towing capacity of 1000lbs as long as the weight of your passengers and luggage in the vehicle does not exceed 865lbs, though you will want to verify this by checking the owner's manual of your vehicle. For a trailer hitch receiver I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11132. To complete your towing setup you will need a vehicle wiring harness # HM11142435, drawbar # C45520, 1-7/8" hitch ball # C40001,...

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver for Towing With a 2015 Kia Cadenza
I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12118 on your 2015 Kia Cadenza. This hitch has a tongue weight rating of 350lbs and 3,500lb trailer rating. You will want to ensure that you do not exceed the weight ratings given by the manufacturer for your vehicle. This will not require you to change your rear shocks. If your suspension is sagging you should check that the weight on the trailer is distributed properly across the trailer and you do not have to much tongue weight. You typically...

  • How to Carry 300 lb Motorcycle with 2007 Nissan Altima
The only hitch we offer for your 2007 Altima is a Class I hitch, which has a 2000 lb towing/ 200 lb tongue weight (the maximum amount of weight that can be suspended from the hitch) capacity. Using an adapter would lower the tongue weight capacity by half. It's a matter of the structure of the vehicle where the hitch attaches not being strong enough. Attempting to carry that kind of tongue weight would most likely result in the fasteners tearing out of the vehicle and the loss of the hitch...

There were two models of the Chevrolet Sonic lt in 2012. One is a 4-door sedan and the other model is a 5-door hatchback. If you have a 4-door sedan then the trailer hitch I recommend is the Curt part # C11240. This is a Class l trailer hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. For a 5-door hatchback I recommend the Draw-Tite # 24878. This is also a Class l hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. The drawbar has a tongue weight up to 200 pounds which will work perfect with your 550 pound boat trailer. The drawbar has a corrosion-resistant, black gloss powder coating. • Is There a Trailer Hitch Available for 2004 Audi TT
We have a hitch for the Quattro models of the 2004 Audi TT. For that you'd want the part # C11765. This has a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs which should easily tow a small trailer with your bike you mentioned but you need to verify that your vehicle has the needed towing capacity in the owners manual. For trailer wiring you'd then want the pat # 119250KIT. For a ball mount you'd then want the part # C45510, and hitch ball part # C40001 for a 1-7/8 inch ball. We are near St. Louis, MO.

The only solution that could work for your 2001 BMW 525i would be to install the Curt Hitch part # C11179 that you referenced and tow a small trailer. Class I hitches the one for your vehicle not only have too low of tongue weight ratings for carrying a motorcycle carrier and motorcycle, they also do not make any carriers compatible with those hitches. We have everything that you need to get towing with your 2009 Buick LaCrosse. For a trailer hitch I recommend the 1-1/4" Class II Curt # C12239 because we have found the Curt trailer hitches typically have better welds and a thicker powder coat than other options. Since you're needing to tow a smaller trailer you'll also need wiring to activate the trailer lights and for that I recommend...

We can get you pretty close. The closest thing we offer would be the # C40095 ball from Curt that is a 1-7/8 inch ball with a 5/8 inch shank. If it's possible to enlarge that eye from 1/2 inch to 5/8, I'd recommend going that route. Since you'd only be increasing the hole size by about an 1/8 of an inch, you wouldn't need to worry about removing too much material from the pull bar.
