Question:
Hi Folks, Im seriously thinking of buying a Kendon trailer to haul my Yamaha XSR900 430 lbs wet 350 lbs for the trailer, but Kendon recommends a Class 2 hitch, and it seems like only Class 1 Curt is available for my vehicle. Given the combined weights 800 lbs,, am I ok to go with a Class 1, or am I asking for trouble? In the alternate, does anyone make a Class 2 for the older model A3? Thanks for taking the time.

I cannot go against the trailer manufacturer and tell you that a class I hitch will be fine when they recommend using a class II hitch but that seems like a rather odd request to me as most other trailer manufacturers do not specify the hitch class so long as the vehicle and hitch are both capable of pulling the weight of the trailer. Therefore, I would think you would be okay but again I can't tell you to do something the trailer manufacturer says not to.
Unfortunately the only trailer hitch they offer for your 2006 Audi A3 is a class I, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11192. In addition to the trailer hitch you are also going to need a trailer wiring harness like the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter part # C59236, a ball mount like the Curt Drawbar part # C45520, and a hitch ball like the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball part # C40001.
I have attached install videos on the above parts for you as well. I also recommend you take a look in the owner's manual for the towing capacities and procedures.
