Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Super fast shipping and good phone help as per etrailer!
Tire tech had some problem getting one of the tires
mounted due to its being compressed for shipping
purposes. Maybe a note should be added in listing about this issue
or video of technique used to assist the tire tech.

I’ve used these tires for about 4000 miles over the past year on my motorcycle trailer. Stable, good tread wear.

Have had these tires for a year now. Replaced tires on my trailer and hauled my winter supply of wood pellets with great results!! Thanks e-trailer

Shipment was quick and just what I ordered. They match the spare I already had on my boat trailer. Had them mounted locally and now trailer is rolling as good as new.
I am happy with my purchase.

So Far so good... seem to be holding up fine

Ordered 2 new Kenda tires for my popup camper, using website to order was quite easy and delivery was as promised. Will do busines with etrailer again in the future. Camper had the original Kenda tires and they kasted 15 years with alot of use.

Exact match for my trailer spare. Great price and service, fast shipping. Will use eTrailer again I'm sure.

Trailer tires are working great on long trips.
Mel - 08/02/2016

Just received an email from Katherine at etrailer stating that UPS delivered my package and it was on the front porch. Sure enough, there it was and I couldn't be more pleased. Haven't had an opportunity to install the tires or brake controller but etrailer directed me to a page that has great information about both products. Nice job folks and I will definitely purchase from you again. I paid with PayPal and it couldn't have been easier. Thanks again, Jim M.

All I can say is wow, ordered new trailer tires and they arrived two days later. The new tires are date coded 2819 and 4619 so both are less than a year old, which is great. The old tires were almost 18 years old and though they still looked good I didn’t want to take a chance on a 2500 mile round trip to Daytona with the motorcycle on back. I already mounted them and serviced the trailer, so I’m ready to roll. Loadstar 175/80 D13 LRC.

Accurate, timely, professional service from

Tires are a great replacement on my 2000 loadrite tandem trailer. Perfectly satisfied going into my 2nd season.

I’m very satisfied with the overall quality of the loadstar tire it lasted 5 years before needing replacement

Thank you for making it easy and quick enough for me. The tires and wheel are just what I ordered and needed for my trailer. Look forward to ordering from you'll in the future. You were recommend by a friend.

I have ordered two of these in separate orders. The tires look good and were very well packaged. They arrived very quickly. They are identical replacements for those on a boat trailer I bought 9 years ago. They did wear funny. One was worn in the middle and the other on the outer edges. Don’t know why. Both were inflated to 50 psi as is indicated on the trailer placard. I can’t complain though. They had lots of hard use.

Fairly good set of tires for my boat trailer. The previous set wore funny but that was after 8 years of use.

Perfect. Came shipped 2 per box which i figured they would be shipped loose. Mounted up fine and trailered well this past weekend. Etrailer gets it right everytime.

Got my tires. They look in good shape being new. Delivery was prompt and ordering was easy enough. Reputable dealer.

I gave them a poor rating before but have change my rating. They originally sent me the wrong item, but they were very helpful in sending the item back and a week later I had the correct item in good shape. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful that I talked to. They also priced matched my items.

Tires are great. Boat tracks extremely well at highway speeds.

I purchased two trailer tires. Ordering process was easy, product received when promised.

I haven’t installed my lights and tires yet but I couldn’t wait. Based on customer service and timely delivery alone, Hanna, Carol and George, awesome! Thank you!

Great service, fast delivery! Doesnt get much better! Thanks etrailer!

So far so good!

The products were easy to locate and purchase on the website. Devivery was prompt in secure sturdy packaging.

Works as it should

Your service is excellent, and great follow up.

Read all of the reviews before making this purchase and hoped for the best. Wow was I impressed! These guys are awesome! Shipment arrived VERY well packed and ahead of scheduled delivery date. Very pleased with the whole experience and will definitely be ordering again soon!

  • Comparing Loadstar And Kenda ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tires
I asked our resident tire expert about the # AM1ST51 and # AM1ST76 tires and what may be the difference. We pulled both tires from our warehouse and compared all of the numbers and specs. We found no difference between the two tires other than the tread design. I have attached a photo of each tire tread design you can check out. They are both Load Range C bias-ply ST175/80D13 tires. I recommend going with the less-expensive option, part # AM1ST51.

  • What is the Difference Between Load Range C and D ST175/80D13 Trailer Tires
The difference between an load range C and load range D tire in the same size is the capacity and psi rating. The two tires will still have the same dimensions and fit on the same wheel. The D rated tire has a higher capacity. For a ST175/80D13 like # AM1ST77, the capacity is 1,610 pounds at 65 psi. For a C load range in the same size, like # AM1ST76 , the capacity is 1,360 pounds at 50 psi. Adding the D load range tires of the same size will fit your trailer, but they will not allow you...

  • What is the Difference Between ST175/80D13 and ST185/80D13 Tires and Load Range C and D
The ST185/80D13 trailer tire will be 10mm wider and the tire will go from 24 inches tall to 24-1/2 inches tall. Just make sure you have space to accommodate the extra height and width so that you do not end up with tire rub. Load range C tires have a ply rating of 6, and load range D tires have a ply rating of 8. Load range D tires are bit heavier built and have a higher weight capacity. The ST175/80D13 tire you were looking at is load range D and can bear 1,610 pounds at 65 psi. An ST17580D13...

  • Can My Spare Trailer Tire Be A Lower Load Range Than The Rest Of My Tires
Typically higher load ranges of tires means higher capacity and a higher max PSI. While the same tire in load range C, Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1ST76 has a maximum 1,360 lbs at 50 psi. You were right that there is very little difference between the two ST175/80D13 trailer tires you mentioned, which are the following: - Kenda ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST51 - Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST76 The only difference really is the tread, and I have added a photo for you showing the different tread patterns of both tires. The narrowest 13" diameter tire we offer is the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1ST74 for load range B, part # AM1ST76 for load range C, or part # AM1ST77 for load range D. These tires all have a section width of 6.6". In order to obtain a section width of 6.0" you would need to go down to a 155/80-13 tire which is a very odd size so if you can give me a bit more insight as to what you are trying to accomplish I would be glad to see if we have any better options for you....

  • Bias Versus Radial Trailer Tires for a Pop Up Camper
The Loadstar ST175/80D13 trailer tire, # AM1ST76, is a good tire for a pop up camper. But if you will be towing the trailer often or over long distances, a radial tire, # AM10199, would be a better choice. Radial tires track better and offers more contact with the ground. More ground contact improves traction and will provide better tread wear. Radial tires are also have more stability than a bias ply tire. Radials also run cooler if they are not overloaded. • What Is The Difference Between 175/80D13 and 175/80R13 Trailer Tires?
The difference between 175/80D13 and 175/80R13 is the D and R. D means that it is a bias ply tire and the R means that it is a radial tire. Radials tend to be more of a smooth ride on the road and the bias tire is better for off road conditions. I would recommend getting radials on your trailer, but you do want to get all the same kind so you don't see uneven ware over time. You have this Bias ply tire # AM1ST76 but you can swap them all for these radials # AM10199

The speed rating is 81 mph for the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM1ST76, but I definitely do not recommend them for highway use, despite that. The reason for that is they are a bias tire, which means they are very stiff, will run hotter, and won't last as long on highway use as a radial tire. So instead, for highway use I highly recommend a radial from Kenda: - Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM10199 The # AM10199 also has an 81 mph...

Radial tires, like part # AM10210, have more flex, better ground contact, traction, tread wear and runs cooler than a bias ply tire.
