Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Shipment was quick and just what I ordered. They match the spare I already had on my boat trailer. Had them mounted locally and now trailer is rolling as good as new. I am happy with my purchase. 756287

All I can say is wow, ordered new trailer tires and they arrived two days later. The new tires are date coded 2819 and 4619 so both are less than a year old, which is great. The old tires were almost 18 years old and though they still looked good I didn’t want to take a chance on a 2500 mile round trip to Daytona with the motorcycle on back. I already mounted them and serviced the trailer, so I’m ready to roll. Loadstar 175/80 D13 LRC. 750235

I have ordered two of these in separate orders. The tires look good and were very well packaged. They arrived very quickly. They are identical replacements for those on a boat trailer I bought 9 years ago. They did wear funny. One was worn in the middle and the other on the outer edges. Don’t know why. Both were inflated to 50 psi as is indicated on the trailer placard. I can’t complain though. They had lots of hard use. 719493

Just received an email from Katherine at etrailer stating that UPS delivered my package and it was on the front porch. Sure enough, there it was and I couldn't be more pleased. Haven't had an opportunity to install the tires or brake controller but etrailer directed me to a page that has great information about both products. Nice job folks and I will definitely purchase from you again. I paid with PayPal and it couldn't have been easier. Thanks again, Jim M. 6898

Review from a similar Loadstar Bias in Trailer Tires and Wheels

I wore out 2 Carlisle tires on the other side of this trailer since I purchased this, so I bought 2 more matching tires with silver wheels and re"tired" this one to the spare even though it shows very little wear. Just wanted to change out the white rim. Only Loadstar from here on... 625465

I use mine on a trailer for hauling 500-1200 pounds on a small trailer for my business. After a year they are still looking pretty new and holding air well. I appreciate the long wear life.

Review from a similar Loadstar Bias in Trailer Tires and Wheels

My wheelbarrow got a flat...again. So I tried a different route. It's a trailer tire but I noticed it is 8in, the same as my wheelbarrow. This is a much more robust tire than the ribbed [tire] that typically lives there. I think the load rating is like 750lbs, way more than I will ever put in there. Anyway if you want to put a truly heavy duty tire on you wheelbarrow, this is it. etrailer had the best price and it got here fast. 772552

Ask the Experts about this Kenda Trailer Tires and Wheels

  • Bias Versus Radial Trailer Tires for a Pop Up Camper
The Loadstar ST175/80D13 trailer tire, # AM1ST76, is a good tire for a pop up camper. But if you will be towing the trailer often or over long distances, a radial tire, # AM10199, would be a better choice. Radial tires track better and offers more contact with the ground. More ground contact improves traction and will provide better tread wear. Radial tires are also have more stability than a bias ply tire. Radials also run cooler if they are not overloaded. This helps the tire last...

  • Comparing Loadstar And Kenda ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tires
I asked our resident tire expert about the # AM1ST51 and # AM1ST76 tires and what may be the difference. We pulled both tires from our warehouse and compared all of the numbers and specs. We found no difference between the two tires other than the tread design. I have attached a photo of each tire tread design you can check out. They are both Load Range C bias-ply ST175/80D13 tires. I recommend going with the less-expensive option, part # AM1ST51.

  • Comparison of Load Range C And Load Range D Trailer Tires
Whether a load range C or the greater capacity load range D, your will need to keep your tires inflated to their maximum psi rating for best performance and longest life. For a ST175/80D13 with load range D like the Loadstar Item # AM1ST77, the capacity is 1,610-lbs at 65 psi. For a C load range in a similar Loadstar like Item # AM1ST76, the capacity is 1,360-lbs at 50 psi. Both "would fit" but which is best will depend on overall capacity as determined by your axle capacity and to...

That gives you a difference of 2.2 inches of diameter, or when you divide that in two to account for how the additional diameter is split on either side of the hub there will be 1.1 inches of less clearance in the wheel well. • Are Bias Tires or Radial Tires Better for a Golf Cart Trailer with Tire Size 175/80-13
Radial tires, like # TTWTRTM1758013C that are 175/80 R13 are generally considered to be better tires for most applications. Radial tires have more ground contact which means they have better traction, stability and they wear more evenly. A radial will usually run cooler as well. This is important because heat is the main reason a tire will fail. On the flipside, a bias tire, like 175/80 D13 tire # AM1ST76, are generally better if you're going to be off road because the tire has a...

Just make sure you have space to accommodate the extra height and width so that you do not end up with tire rub. Load range C tires have a ply rating of 6, and load range D tires have a ply rating of 8. Load range D tires are bit heavier built and have a higher weight capacity. Radial tires, like part # AM10210, have more flex, better ground contact, traction, tread wear and runs cooler than a bias ply tire.
