Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

I ordered these tires for my boat trailer as I have a family fishing trip to go on. And to my surprise they sent me two different size tires. Now I am in a bad situation because I have to take the time that I don’t have to call and explain to these people ( if I can get ahold of a person and not a computer) how they messed up my order. Then send the wrong one back and wait for the right one. In the meantime spend more money at a local tire shop for a cheap tire to get me through my trip. Then when the right tire comes in spend even more money having it installed.

  • How To Get the Correct Tire Size For a 1985 Scotty Camper
You will want to remove the P165/80D13 tires from your camper because they are only a passenger car tire. A trailer tire will be labeled ST before the tire size to designate a special trailer tire. This will mean the tire is designed with stronger sidewalls to handle the extra loads that a trailer/camper will put on the tire. If you look on the 1985 Scotty Camper identification tag it might include the correct tire size that is recommended for your camper. The correct tire size for your...

  • Proper Tire Pressure For Loadstar Trailer Tires
We have 3 tire options that are Kenda Loadstar in that size. We have the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM1ST77, the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM1ST76, and the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range B # AM1ST74. • Which Trailer Tire Size Replaces B78-13B Tires
B78-13 is an old tire size designation that isn't used much anymore. The modern trailer tire equivalent size is ST175/80-13. All of the tires on the trailer should be the same size, load range, and construction type (radial or bias ply). Having one that is a different size can cause uneven tire wear, tracking problems (how the trailer follows the tow vehicle), potential suspension issues, and unspecified weight carrying capacity. The 175/70-13 isn't a trailer tire size. If the tires on...

  • Will The ST175/80-13 Trailer Tire Size Replace the B78-13 Tire Size
Yes, the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM1ST74, is the replacement size for the B78-13 tire size. You will want to make sure the load capacity of 1,100 lbs. at 35 psi will be sufficient for your trailer. I also have the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire-Load Range C, # AM10199, which is a radial tire in that size and has a load capacity of 1,360 lbs. at 50 psi. You will also want to make sure and inflate the tire to the maximum psi that is listed on the tire. Trailer...

If you go up to 175/80-13 sized tires, like # they will be about 1-1/2 inches larger in diameter and about 1/2 inch wider. You want at least 3 inches between the tread and fender and an inch between the sidewall to the inside of the wheel well. If you have the clearance it will be better to go with the larger tire than the smaller. If you go down to the 145/R12, like # AM35354, or the 5.30-12 like # AM35354, you'll have tires that are about an inch smaller in diameter and about a 1/2...

On the other hand the Kenda Loadstar ST tires are a high quality tire designed and strenuously tested in Ohio to make sure the tires are as reliable, and strong as possible. The Loadstar ST tires included a 1-year worry free guarantee and 5 year limited warranty which shows how confident Kenda is in the tire, where Trailer King tires only have a 5-year warranty.
