Question:
I change my load range c tires to maxis load range d on my travel trailer. I cannot inflate to 65 psi without trailer bouncing and having a mess inside the trailer. I have inflated them to 50-55 psi and everything has been working just fine for the last 6 years. I am going to purchase new st tires before our trip, because they are 6 years old. Is it ok to buy d load or should I go back to c load with proper inflation of 50 psi.

Expert Reply:
Whether a load range C or the greater capacity load range D, your will need to keep your tires inflated to their maximum psi rating for best performance and longest life.
For a ST175/80D13 with load range D like the Loadstar Item # AM1ST77, the capacity is 1,610-lbs at 65 psi. For a C load range in a similar Loadstar like Item # AM1ST76, the capacity is 1,360-lbs at 50 psi. Both "would fit" but which is best will depend on overall capacity as determined by your axle capacity and to some degree your wheel capacity.
When it comes to total weight capacity, you will only be able to carry the maximum weight of the lowested rated component of your trailer (tire, wheel, axle, etc.).
