Features:

  • Electric brakes are easier to install and offer more user control than hydraulic brakes

    • Less chance of cracking and crumbling that can lead to mechanical lockup, thanks to tapered edge and circular grinding
  • Periodic manual adjustment required
    • Fine-tooth brake adjustment gear allows for a more precise setting
  • E-coated backing plate resists wear and corrosion
  • Adjuster plugs (included) cover access holes to keep dirt and grime out of the assembly and off of the shoes

Manual-Adjust Brake

With repeated use of this brake assembly, the brake shoes may move out of alignment, causing less efficient braking performance. To keep the brake shoes aligned and the brake assembly performing correctly, you should perform routine maintenance.

This brake assembly should be adjusted after installation and then as needed for the life of the brake. To adjust the brake, use a brake adjustment screw tool (sold separately) to turn the adjustment gear on the inside of the assembly. Continue to turn the gear until the drum surrounding the brake catches on the brake pads enough so that the hub can no longer be turned easily by hand. Then reverse the gear by about 10 clicks. A properly adjusted brake should drag slightly on the brake drum.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This brake assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This brake assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This brake has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on this brake assembly is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

don't forget when ordering these that you order the lock washers and nuts to attach, I didn't read all the way down to notice this, all is good, local hardware store had them

by:

Upon inspection these look extremely well built. Installation took about 15 minutes each. As it is winter here in Northern Minnesota, I won't know how well they perform for a couple months yet since they are on my boat trailer. I don't think there will be any problems. Great product.

by:

Parts went on without a problem.
Took
me about an hour for both sides.
The only thing was that the brake adjustment hole was missing the plug on one side.
Not bad for an 84 year old.

by:

The packing was terrible. The brake assemblies were just put in a box with no wraping or packing to keep them apart. The brake shoes have chips in them and some magnet keepers and magnets were off and laying in the box. A nice looking brake assembly all banged up. all four brake assemblies in same box. Not A good way to ship products.

I do trailer repair at my welding & machine shop, the three customers that I fixed their trailer brakes and new wheels purchased from you are very happy with the trailers. One in particular is a Church Group that needs a dependable trailer for going to camp and on mission trips there have been no issues with their trailer ever since repairs have been made, that was 2 years ago when I replaced all the tires on that one and repaired a couple of brake assemblies. I would recommend etrailer to everybody that wants lower prices on trailer wheels and brake parts, I have some very happy customers and I am very happy with the tires and brakes as there has been no call backs. Thanks

by:

One question, does the magnet go on the top or bottom, I have seen them displayed both ways. I have already installed them with the magnets on the top. The right and left references looking forward, I presume..

by:

The only reason I do not give you 5 stars is because your web site. When internet ordering, it should instantly state when a part is out of stock. Even nicer would be expected restocking dates. The parts received were exactly what I ordered for my electric brake conversion from surge brakes at far less expense than reparing the internally rusted surge brake system. There was a plethora of information on your web site to assist me in ordering the correct parts for the conversion. Plus there were videos to see how to complete the conversion and how parts were installed and adjusted. Customer service was excellent.

by:

Perfect fit replacement. Replaced my brakes and hubs on an older pop-up camper. Make sure to buy the new hardware (lock washers and nuts) to make things even easier!

by:

I think your great! I find myself more and more buying items from you and that’s what it’s about. Treat people right and why would they go elsewhere. Trusted supplier

After a year, they are just a proper for my trailer as new. Zero isues with my brakes purchased. Thank you

by:

Works as intended.

by:

I put these on my pop up camper as one side had a leaky grease seal and the pads were toast. Couldn't find any pads so replaced both sides. They bolted right up with no problems. Just make sure you buy the right size. Not expensive so a good solution.

by:

great service-- e trailer brakes were pretty much same as dexter -- figure they will do just fine-- about $30 cheaper-- easy to install and works great

by:

Same review as with the right side brake assembly, fit good, work good

This was bought to replace an assembly that failed in about a month, just installed it so has not been used. Would not buy again

by:

I used these on an old pop up camping trailer. Installation was a pretty straight forward nuts and bolts operation. At first I wasn't sure they were working very well but after some break in and readjusting they seem to be working great.

by:

The parts came as expected. Fit was excellent. Finish was also better than expected. I was able to reuse the nuts that hold them to the axel. It would have been nice if the description indicated that the studs were metric, as I purchased SAE threaded nuts ahead of time. One other suggestion would be to partially strip the lead wires and leave the cut insulation in place to prevent the ends from fray during and shipping. The value (price compare) was excellent. Would buy again for sure.

by:

Seem to be okay at best. Can't lock em up with an empty trailer. Small brakes with 15" rims though. Worst part was they did not come with nuts. Had to reuse old nuts making sure the did not get damaged while removing, had to heat ect... Probably would have torched the old ones off to save time.

by:

I’m a happy customer. Product is as described and ready to install. Good quality product and super fast shipping. Etrailer is a reliable company witch offers good products at fair price. I will shop again with etrailer when needed.

by:

Great product, bolted right up. Would recommend to everyone who needs to change their brake assemblies on there trailer

by:

Replacing hydraulic surge brakes with electrical. Product was exactly as specified. Ordered over the phone and the person (Wayne) was very helpful and answered all my questions

by:

extremely happy with the brakes I received! I have been having a lot of difficulty locating the brakes for my 1982 Coleman pop up camper, we were about to give up and then etrailer came along and solved our problem, now we can keep 'er rollin'!!

by:

Product arrived in excellent condition and clean. I was eligible for free shipping. Order was placed on sunday afternoon and received north of NY state on next friday. I would definitely consider buying from etrailer again.

by:

Added brakes to my Aliner camper. Brakes work great and were easy to install! Great customer service.

by:

Parts were good. Everything lined up, and went back together great. The customer service is out standing. Parts were shipped quickly. I ordered on Sunday night, and I had them Thursday morning. Unbelievable! Plus, George called me Monday morning to check if I ordered them, because my shipping address was different than my billing address. Great job, guys. Other companies could learn a thing from you.

by:

Very good product. Quality and price are spot on. Fit and function are great. I will be ordering from etrailer next time I need parts.

  • 72 Inch Long Dexter Trailer Axle with 2,200 lb Capacity and Hub/Drums and Assemblies
We have a few different Dexter straight trailer axles. If you check out the link I attached you will see all of the 72 inch Dexter axles we offer. Since you need a setup with hub/drums and brake assemblies you would need to get the part # T20BTR-EZ-7258 which is a 2,200 lb axle without hubs and then go with hubs and assemblies to match it. For hubs you would need the part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K then for a left hand brake assembly part # AKEBRK-2L and for the right side part # AKEBRK-2R. These...

  • Parts Needed to Add Electric Drum Brakes to Trailer
The linked article gives you a recap of what is needed to add brakes to a trailer. Since your trailer's 2200-lb axle already has brake flanges installed, adding brakes to it will require you to select left- and right-hand brake assemblies and hubs/drums to replace your idler hubs. The new hubs have to use the same inner and outer bearing as your old hubs to ensure they will fit on your existing spindles. Check the mounting bolt pattern on the flanges to ensure they match the 4-bolt pattern...

  • Should All Brake Assemblies on Triple Axle Trailer Face Forward
That is definitely an interesting setup and I have to believe that it's unintentional. Most likely the owner (or previous owner) replaced the brakes on just that axle and simply installed them backwards on accident. It's not terribly uncommon because it's not too hard to do if you aren't paying attention to the brake assembly orientation. I definitely recommend swapping the brakes on that middle axle so that they face forward like the rest. There shouldn't really be a scenario where a...
