Expert Answers about Weigh Safe

  • Choosing The Correct Ball Mount For Lifted Truck To Tow Trailer Level
  • For a 7 inch lift on your 2016 Chevy Silverado, I definitely recommend a ball mount that has a significant drop to tow your trailer level. I recommend an adjustable hitch so you can tow multiple trailers level. You may be interested in the 180 Hitch 2-Ball Mount w/ Stainless Steel Balls - 2" Hitch - 10" Drop, 11" Rise - 10K # TB10-2. I've attached a video of this hitch for you that gives you a 2 inch hitch ball as well as a 2-5/16 inch ball integrated. I recommend getting the Locking...

  • Comparing 6" Drop and 8" Drop Weigh Safe Ball Mounts to Use on a 2015 Chevy Tahoe
  • It looks like you have half of the information needed to choose a ball mount with the correct Rise or Drop for your towing application. To know exactly what you need you will need to measure the height of the bottom of your trailer coupler when it is on level ground. You will then subtract the height of your coupler from the 23 inches that you measured from the top of the inside of your hitch receiver on your 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. With that being said, since the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount...

  • Recommended Weigh Safe Ball Mount For 2017 Ford F-250 4x4 Diesel
  • The Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount w/ Built-In Scale - 2" Hitch - 10" Drop, 11" Rise - 10K # WS10-2, # WS10-2 for 2-1/2 inch hitch, or # WS10-3 for 3 inch hitch receiver is a great choice for your 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty. This adjustability will give you a great hitch for towing a variety of trailers level and has the built in tongue weight scale to help. I haven't heard anything about the drag off a driveway with a F-250 using this drop. The fact that it doesn't have the second ball underneath...

  • Can Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount Be Used With Weight Distribution System
  • There are no weight distribution systems designed to be able to use the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount, part # WS6-2. All weight distribution system require a shank and do not attach directly to a ball mount like the # WS6-2. Based on the numbers you mentioned I recommend a weight distribution system like part # C17322. This system has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs and a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. The system includes sway control that helps when facing high winds...

  • Weigh Safe Ball Mount Recommendations for a 2015 Ram 1500
  • If the 10 inch drop version of the Weigh Safe ball mount is too much then I recommend the 8 inch model, # WS8-2 for a 2 inch hitch or # WS8-25 for a 2-1/2 inch hitch. It will provide more vertical adjustment than the 6 inch model but won't hang down quite as low as the 10. If you have multiple trailers now then you can measure the coupler height by making them level and measuring from the ground to the bottoms of the couplers. Compare that to the hitch measurement from the ground to...

  • Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation for 2017 Ram 2500 with 2-1/2 inch Hitch
  • For what you are looking for the best option is going to be the Weight Safe Ball Mount part # WS10-25 that you referenced. It fits a 2-1/2 inch hitch, can do a drop of 10 inches, and even has a couple ball sizes to give you even more flexibility.

  • Can Weigh Safe 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball Adapter be Used on Non-Weigh Safe Hitch Ball
  • The 2-5/16 inch Weigh Safe Adapter # WS07 is extremely safe to use when used properly. I verified with Weigh Safe that it can be used on another ball other than theirs as long as it closes completely and the magnets are engaged with no gaps around the ball on your truck. It's a direct replacement for the adapter included with Weigh Safe # WSUN-1

  • Recommended Weigh Safe Ball Mounts for 2-1/2-Inch and 2-Inch Hitches
  • It is hard to beat the convenience of having a tongue weight (TW) scale built-in to your ball mount. Their aluminum construction means no powder-coat finish to chip off and no worries about rust. The Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount with Built-In Scale # WS8-25 will fit the 2-1/2-inch hitch on your 2016 Silverado 2500 and give you a height adjustment range in 1-inch increments from 9-inches of rise down to 8-inches of drop. For your 2012 Silverado 1500's 2-inch hitch you can select one of...

  • Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizers to Reduce Play of Ball Mount in Hitch Receiver
  • The Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount # WS4-2 has a standard 2-inch shank, in this case made of milled billet aluminum for strength. It is not sized differently due to its material. I went to our warehouse and measured the shank with a precision digital caliper and found it to be 1.943-inches. If you care to add an anti-rattle mechanism to reduce any play between the shank and receiver tube, you can use Boone # 93347 or the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061.

  • The Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount w/ Built-In Scale - 2-1/2" Hitch - 4" Drop, 5" Rise - 14.5K # WS4-25 should not have a lot of play in the ball. Make sure the pin that holds the ball in place is working properly and the hitch ball is the correct size for the trailer and weight you are pulling. You should be using the 2-5/16 inch ball for that 10-12,000 lb trailer. A little bit of play is normal, but increasing amounts of play is a problem and may require replacement parts. You may...

  • Aluminum Adjustable Ball Mount Needed with 2" and 2-5/16" Stainless Hitch Balls for 2017 Ford F-250
  • If we take 14 away from the 23-1/2 inches that you measured the height of the inside of your 2-1/2 inch receiver to be on your 2017 Ford F-250, that leaves you with 9-1/2 inches. This means that you need an adjustable ball mount with a drop of about 9-1/2 inches for your trailer to ride level. I do have a few options for you to choose from when it comes to an aluminum ball mount with a 2 inch and a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball that are stainless steel. The Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount # WS10-25...

  • For most situation 8-1/2 inches of ground clearance would be adequate. But if you do found yourself in a tight situation you would have to either remove the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount # WS8-25 or find a creative way to approach the change in elevation without dragging the ball mount. The ball mount is made of aluminum which does not corrode and the balls of it are made of stainless steel which is about as corrosion resistant as you can get. • Recommended Ball Mount for Toyota Tundra with 6 Inch Lift
  • With your Toyota Tundra rated to tow 11,000 lbs, you can get a ball mount that meets or exceeds that weight, but you will also be limited by whatever your trailer hitch receiver is rated for. The lesser of those 3 numbers is what your gross towing capacity will be. Based on your 6 inch lift, I'd recommend an adjustable ball mount with at least an 8 inch drop. If you have a 2 inch receiver, then I'd suggest the EZ Heavy Duty Adjustable Hitch with Combo Ball, # AM3298. This hitch has...

Once the ball is attached with the nut, use the included hex/allen wrench and tighten the ball set screw until the gauge reads 100 pounds. • Scale Recommendation for Determining Trailer Tongue Weight
  • A much easier method for determining tongue weight would be to use the scale # 5780. If you check out the video I attached you can see how this would be used. I also attached a help article on determining tongue weight. Trying to use the # WS6-2 without a tow vehicle to determine tongue weight would be overly complicated and borderline unsafe. The # 5780 is designed for what you are trying to do so there would be not comparison. It would be a much better solution.

  • Is Weigh Safe Hitch Ball with Scale Accurate and Does it Work with Low Tongue Weights
  • The Weigh Safe ball with built-in scale # WSUN-1 is the only one of its kind. It would not be the best for tongue weight on the lower end of the scale like you said. Tongue weight scale # 5780 would work a little better and it is easier to read. The gauges on either are calibrated correctly.

  • Recommendation for Choosing Adjustable Ball Mount for 2017 Chevy Silverado
  • When determining the rise or drop needed for a ball mount, there are two measurements you will want to take. Starting with your 2017 Chevy Silverado, you will want to take a measurement from the ground to the top of the trailer hitch receiver when the truck is on level ground. Then on your trailer, you will measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. If the hitch height on your truck is higher, you will need a ball mount with a rise, if the coupler measurement is higher, you...

  • Recommended Ball Mount Rated for 14,000 Pounds to Fit a 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • We do have Weigh Safe ball mounts that are rated for over 14,000 pounds, like part # WS6-25, but they're for 2-1/2 inch hitch receivers. For a high capacity 2 inch ball mount I recommend looking at a Gen-Y product like part # 325-GH-515. This particular one is rated up to 16,000 pounds and offers up to 10 inch drop or rise. It doesn't include a tongue weight scale, like some of the Weigh Safe ball mounts, but we do carry a scale, part # 5780.

You'll want to order Weigh Safe Ball, # WSB-L, which has a weight capacity of 7500 lb and is perfect for smaller utility trailers like yours. • How to Choose the Right Ball Mount for a Horse Trailer
  • Your setup looks nice. It is difficult to guess measurements from a photo, but I can surely help to get your trailer more level. For safety and comfort, your trailer should always be as level as possible. A level trailer handles well, promotes even wear on your tires and minimizes the stress on your truck and your trailer. And, obviously, makes the horses' ride more enjoyable. The easiest way to achieve this is by selecting the ball mount with the correct rise or drop. With your truck...
