Expert Answers about Ce Smith

  • How to Attach Carpet to Boat Trailer Bunk Boards
  • I recommend attaching the carpet to your boards using staples. If you wrap the carpet around the board and only staple the carpet on the sides or back of the board, the staples will not scratch the hull of your boat.

  • How to Install the CE Smith Wobble Roller Retainer Ring # CE10981
  • Basically, you put the open end around the shaft on each end of the roller then use some pliers to clamp it closed so it is tight to the shaft. This allows the roller to roll but stay in position. I made a video showing what this would look like for you.

  • Max Speed Rating for the CE Smith Boat Trailer CE48810
  • Since you are looking for a way to transport a kayak a much better solution for you would be a Yakima Rack and Roll trailer like part # Y08106 as this is rated for highway speeds. As always, exceeding posted speed limits is not recommended, especially when towing. The CE Smith Boat Trailer for Boats and PWCs # CE48810 that you referenced uses 4.80/4.00-8 sized tires that are rated for 65 miles per hour like most trailer tires.

  • How to Attach CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Mounting Brackets for Bunk Boards # CE10001G-4
  • The CE Smith Galvanized Bolster and Swivel Mounting Brackets for Bunk Boards # CE10001G-4 come with nuts and bolts to attach the swivel brackets to the bolster brackets, but you will need to supply either lag bolts or other through bolt hardware to attach these assemblies to the wooden bunks on your boat trailer and the trailer frame. Either type of hardware is suitable and you can determine which is best, and what specific length you need, based on the construction of your particular...

  • Replacement Trailer Bunk Brackets for a Escort Boat Trailer
  • The CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assembly # CE10000G that you referenced would work well to replace the bunk brackets on your boat trailer. You would be able to set the angle for the bunks that you would like with the # CE10000G also. I attached a picture that shows that you can use different angles.

  • Spare Tire Cover to Fit 215/70R16 Size Spare Tire
  • The overall diameter of a 215/70R16 size tire is just under 28-inches (27.8 to be exact). For a tire of this size I suggest one of the black spare tire covers that are shown on the link provided for you. Classic Accessories # 052963753479 is a vinyl cover with an elastic back hem. Rampage # RA772901 is a fabric cover of material similar to a Jeep top that has an adjustment cord for a snug fit. Either of these will be a better fit for your 16-inch wheels than the item you referenced,...

  • Recommended Spare Tire Cover for 4.80 - 12 Size Tire
  • A tire of size 4.80 - 12 has an overall diameter of 20-1/2-inches and is approximately 4-inches wide. We offer several tire covers that will fit tires up to 21-inches in diameter and these can be seen by clicking on the linked page. We can offer you a choice of white, grey or black covers from CE Smith and Classic Accessories. If you prefer a basic black cover you can use # CE27410; for a white cover use # 052963751000. All have an elastic rear opening for a snug fit.

  • V Mounting Brackets to Convert Conventional Trailer into Pontoon Boat Trailer
  • The V mounting brackets that you could use to convert your conventional trailer to a pontoon boat trailer are the CE Smith V-Wing Bolster Bracket, # CE26244G. When it comes to mounting hardware for these brackets, I recommend using a screw and washer like our 3/8 Inch Stainless Steel Hex Lag Screw, # FA74521, and Stainless Steel Washer, # FA0152661. I have attached a link to our U-bolts for boat trailers. Since the mounting slot on the V bracket would typically run parallel with...

  • Recommended Staple Size for Bunk Board Carpet
  • We typically try to use 1/2 inch stainless steel staples when we install the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting, # CE11372, but 3/8 inch staples will work too. I would not go much shorter than the 3/8 inch staples because you don't want them to work their way out over time. I strongly recommend using stainless steel staples if possible. They will last much longer because they provide the best rust resistance.

  • Replacement Trailer Fenders for Car Tow Dolly Trailer with 14 Inch Wheels
  • No worries. I have seen fenders in much worse shape. It looks like the best option is going to be the fenders that you have referenced # CE17900G. I know that this fender does not have mounting holes. But that is because they are a universal fit item and you will need to provide your own hardware for mounting. We do have some mounting brackets you can use, # CE26098G-2. I have also included a link to all of the fenders that we carry that fit 14 inch wheels. Fenders, unless otherwise...

  • Availability of Spare Tire Carrier for Trailer with 2 x 6 inch Trailer Tongue
  • The only spare tire carrier I can recommend for your trailer frame would be a U-bolt carrier like the part # CE22011Z-11050-2. This is compatible with rims up to 15 inches in diameter and can be used with 4 and 5 bolt patterns. The rim will have to be installed on the frame like the picture I attached shows.

  • Spare Tire Carrier Recommendation for 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern
  • Depending on the configuration and mounting options on your trailer you may be able to use a spare tire carrier like the Fulton Economy Spare Tire Carrier, part # FETCSTL0701. When used with a spare tire with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern the bracket can be bent to fit. This option does not offer any offset, but will work for 5 on 5. With this set up you will get the carrier and lock in one. I went out to the warehouse and took a measurement of this part for you (see photo at right) to help...

  • Bunk Board Carpet Recommendation for a 2x6 Bunk Board
  • We don't sell 2x6 bunk boards, but we do sell the carpet to allow you to wrap boards that are that size. For 2 x 6 bunks you'll want the 18-inch width carpet # CE11349 in order to have full wrap-around coverage without exposed wood.

  • Recommended Pontoon Boat Guide-Ons for Pontoon Boat Trailer
  • The pontoon trailer guide-ons only come in a set of 2 as that is all that is needed, although you can add more if you believe that it is necessary. That all just depends on how confident you are about staying on the right track once you have started guiding your pontoon onto your boat trailer. You will want to position them on your boat trailer so that they span the open space on the underside of your pontoon boat (see attached picture). There are 2 different style of guides that you...

  • Replacement Carpeted Bunks For Boat Trailer Recommendation
  • We offer both carpet that you can use to replace your worn carpet on your bunks for your trailer, and we also carry replacement carpeted bunks for your trailer. The carpeted bunks we offer come in varied lengths. If you need 6 ft bunks, I recommend part # CE27840. These come in a set of 2, and is wrapped with marine-grade black carpeting. For 5 ft bunks, you would need part # CE27820, for 4 ft bunks, part # CE27810, and for 3 ft bunks you would need part # CE27800. If you decide...

  • Weight Capacity And Parts Needed For Modifying Boat Trailer For 26 Ft Regal Commodore
  • I spoke with my contact at CE Smith, and they said the Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assembly for Boat Trailers, part # CE10000G, do not bear the weight of the boat. The U-bolt that attaches the brackets to the trailer frame support the weight of the boat. There should be a bracket attached to each cross member of the trailer frame. If you are buying several brackets, I would recommend part # CE10000G-4. This is a set of 4 of the 9 inch adjustable brackets. If you need longer adjustable...

  • Choosing Boat Trailer Bunks versus Guide-Ons for Trailering in Rough Waters
  • Considering the rough water where you boat, I suggest you consider carpeted bunks or roller bunks. Bunks will do a better job than guide-ons at actually controlling the boat's motion while you're getting it up on the trailer. Guide-ons are really intended to provide a visual cue, but not really for actually controlling the boat's movement as it is trailered. As soon as the hull makes contact with the bunks it will begin to stabilize the craft's movement. I have linked our main pages...

  • Do Bunk Style Boat Trailer Guide-Ons have to be a Specific Distance from the Boat
  • For bunk style guide-ons such as # CE27600 the bunk board and boat should only barely touch if at all. There isn't a hard and fast rule that says it should be this many inches. But since guide-ons are not meant to support weight like a regular bunk you don't want it so close that the boat could damage the system, but they have to be close enough to help guide the boat on accurately. If it is as rough as it sounds like then I would say maybe 3 inches on each side would work. And if you...

  • Mounting Boat Trailer Guide-Ons to Triton Boat Trailer With Fender Step Extends to Rear of Trailer
  • It sounds like you'll need to do some fab work in order to get the guide-ons to work. I believe your best bet would be to eliminate the u-bolts and have the brackets welded to the top or the underside of the frame member. If the fender step doesn't extend more than 13 inches from the side of the frame member, you can mount to the underside of the frame and the upright portion of the guide-on will clear the step. Otherwise, you'd need to attach to the top of the frame member.

  • Tire and Fender Upgrade on CE Smith Trailer for Boats and PWCs # CE48810
  • According to my contact at CE Smith their Trailer for Boats and PWCs # CE48810 can indeed take 12-inch wheels, with only new fenders required as you noted. I have linked our main page for tire/wheel combinations in the 12-inch size and with the 5-on-4-1/2-inch bolt pattern used for the CE Smith trailer. For a galvanized wheel-with-tire in Load Range B you can use part # AM30590. Please note that all trailer tires in this size are rated to speeds up to 65-mph maximum. We do not offer...

  • How to Install Pal Nuts on a Roller Shaft
  • The easiest way to install pal nuts on a roller shaft is to completely assemble everything (roller, brackets, roller shaft, etc...) before mounting it on the trailer. Place one pal nut on the ground, open end up, and place the roller shaft on the pal nut. Next, with everything assembled on the shaft, put the other pal nut on the other end of the shaft and use a hammer to tap the top pal nut onto the shaft. While you are tapping on the top pal nut, the roller shaft will seat into the pal...

These brackets are available in different heights. These brackets are held to your trailer with u-bolts like the CE Smith U-Bolts - Galvanized - 3-13/16" Long x 3-1/16" Wide x 1/2" Diameter - Qty 4 # CE15283GA-4. These brackets hold on your Bunk boards like the CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailers - 6' Long - 1 Pair...

  • Mounting a Winch on a Snowmobile Trailer Tongue or Ball Mount
  • The CE Smith winch stand # CE31013G is not designed to attach to a ball mount and a ball mount is not designed to have anything attached to it for safety so the stand would have to be installed on the trailer though it is not wide enough for a 3 inch tongue. If you plan on using a hand winch then you could use the universal right angle mounting bracket # DL24110 though if the trailer has a straight pole tongue it may require some fabrication to get it installed in the right place. • Replacement Trailer Axle for Boat Trailer
  • The closest axle we have to your measurements is # CE33201GA-HUB which has a hub face of 57-1/2 inches and spring center of 46-1/2 inches. So it's very close. I'd double check your measurements to see if this will fit. The axle also includes idler hubs with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. As well as the bearings, races, seals, grease caps, wheel studs, lug nuts, and grease. It's also galvanized which is great for boat trailers.

  • How to Adjust CE Smith Bunk-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27600 to Keep Boat Centered
  • The CE Smith Bunk-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27600 can be adjusted for the best fit with a given craft. As you noted, you can adjust their side-to-side spacing to help keep your hull's strakes from contacting the center roller brackets. Also, the Bunk-Style Guide-Ons can be set at an angle, with the stern brackets a bit further apart than the bow brackets. This will create something of a V-shaped entry way for the boat that might help get and keep the keel in the roller. A...

There is a 50 inch tall model from Fulton, # FGB1500100. And The 60 inch one, # CE27640, could work if you trimmed some length from the PVC pipes.

  • Will the CE Smith I-Beam Clamps Fit on a 4 Inch Wide Trailer I-Beam
  • Technically, you are only limited by the size of the nut and bolt. A longer bolt used would mean you could go to a larger I-beam. With the included hardware the minimum I-beam width is 2-1/2 inches and the maximum is 4-1/2 inches. I made a video showing this for you.
