Video Transcript for Redline Tires and Wheels 6-53 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the 9/16" by 18 Trailer Wheel Lug Nut. This lug nut is designed to fit 9/16" diameter wheel studs. It is a right hand normal thread design, 18 threads per inch. If you notice also, it has the 60 degree taper on it, and that's designed to fit the beveled opening of the lug hole on the wheels. Now, the head size on this, it is a 7/8" head so it will use a socket of 7/8", and you can see I have one, I happened to have a 7/8" socket here. See if it's right on the head of that.

The overall length of this lug nut from the top to the bottom is going to be right at 3/4". This part is for quality of one lug nut. That should do it for the review of the 9/16" by 18 Trailer Wheel Lug Nut.

The parts came faster than expected and fit as expected

Not sure if the problem lies with the studs i bought from etrailer or these lug nuts but the quality is poor. Thread engagement appears to have different pressure angles and they are not smooth and difficult to start.

Parts arrived on time via UPS. Took them right over to the machinist and within an hour was able to pick up my hub & drum. The machinist works at an auto parts store and the distributors for the store couldn't match the specs of the Dexter Wheel Lugs so had to special order these from etrailer. Got excellent service. Suggest you follow the instructions from Dexter for reassembly of the wheel and axle system. I recommend you also order the end of spindle snap ring as well as the magnet clips for this job.

  • Availability of a 9/16 Inch Wheel Stud for Dexter Trailer Hubs
If the hubs have a screw in type wheel stud, you can use Trailer Hub Wheel Stud, # 25-11. These are 9/16 by 3 inches (total length). The threaded part for the lug nuts is 1-9/16 inches long which may not be enough for your new alloy wheels. It is a difference of 3/16 of an inch. This stud is the only 9/16 wheel stud we carry.

  • How To Determine the Correct Size Lug Nuts For a Trailer
The three most common lug stud sizes for a trailer are 1/2"-20, 9/16"-18, and 5/8"-18. In order to make sure you get the correct lug nuts you need to measure the lug studs on the trailer now as we have no way to look this up for individual trailers. I have attached a few options based on the lug stud size below. The 1/2"-20 studs are used on small-medium duty trailers whereas the 9/16"-18 and 5/8"-18 lug studs are used on larger duty trailers. • Replacement Wheel Studs For Dexter Hub Assembly 008-219-13 And New 16"x6" 8 on 6-1/2" Silver Wheel
I would be happy to help! The correct replacement wheel studs for your Dexter Hub and Drum Assembly 008-219-13 (our part number # 8-219-4UC3) is the # 7-257, and the compatible lug nuts is the # 6-53. For a replacement silver wheel we have the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel - 16" x 6" Rim - 8 on 6-1/2 # AM20794 which is the correct size and bolt pattern for your 2010 Elite 3 Horse Slant Horse Trailer, but is a slightly different design than the wheel in your picture. I included...

  • Replacement 9/16 Inch Wheel Stud for 5/8 Inch Wheel Stud Hubs
The Kodiak Wheel Bolt - 9/16" Diameter x 2-1/2" Long # K916WB25 can replace your 5/8 studs as long as the knurl diameter and length work for your hub and wheel. For instance, the Kodiak Wheel Bolt - 5/8" Diameter x 3-1/8" Long # K58WB316 will work in the hubs due to the same diameter of the knurl, but the length difference is significantly different so the wheel may determine fit. You also don't want to forget the lug nuts # 6-53 that are appropriate for your 9/16 inch studs. The only...

  • Lug Nuts for 7K Dexter Axle
We have many styles and sizes of trailer wheel lug nuts shown on the linked page. These are offered in either 60-degree or 90-degree coned profile, in zinc, chrome or stainless and for four different wheel stud diameters. Just click on the feature to see the products with that attribute. Most 7K hubs like Dexter # 42866UC3-EZ do use 1/2-inch wheel studs but we have lug nuts for 9/16-inch studs too, like # 6-53.

  • Recommended Lug Nuts to Use with Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Wheel AM20794
The Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Wheel # AM20794 is compatible with both 1/2"-20 and 9/16"-18 studs, so the right lug nuts partly depends on the stud size for your existing hubs. For 1/2", the Redline # 12CLN will work really well and if you have 9/16" studs I recommend the Redline # 6-53. I have also attached links below that will take you to our full selection of 1/2" and 9/16" lug nuts that you can look through.

  • Lug Nut Size for 7,000 lb Trailer with 5-Bolt Pattern Hub and Drum Assemblies
If you're trailer has an overall weight capacity of 7,000 lbs this likely means you have a tandem axle trailer and hub and drums with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern like part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. If this is the case then it is very likely that you have need 1/2" lug nuts like part # CE11051. Should you have a older 7,000 lb axle with a 5 bolt pattern then you likely have something like the hub and drum assembly # 8-174-5UC3 which uses 9/16" bolts so you'd need a lug nut like part # 6-53 for...

  • What Is The Torque Specifications On A 9/16 Inch Lug Nut
The standard torque on a Redline Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 9/16 inch, part # 6-53, is 135 to 145 ft lbs. This is the torque range that is normally used. If the instructions for the wheel are saying 110 ft lbs there might be a reason, like the wheel material, why they are recommending a lower torque. I think 170 ft lbs is too high for a 9/16 inch lug nut.

  • Offset of Wheel/Tire Combo # AM34964 Does it Include Center Cap and Lug Nuts
The offset of a wheel refers to the distance between the mounting surface of the wheel that touches the hub and the center line of the wheel. A negative offset will move the tire away from the trailer, while a positive offset will move the tire closer to the trailer. The AM34964 you referenced has an offset of negative 8 mm, which means the mounting surface is closer to the trailer. This means the center line of the wheel will be further from the trailer. You can see this more clearly...

  • Does the Mounting Flange of the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit K2HR79E Fit 5 Bold Mounting Flange
The Kodiak disc brake kit part # K2HR79E that you referenced is actually designed to fit brake mounting flanges on axles that have the 5 bolt mounting pattern. There are several holes in the bracket that you can see in the product pictures but that is to allow the bracket to be installed in several different orientations on the trailer. This comes with 9/16 inch wheel studs that will work well with your current rims but you will need new lug nuts. For that you would need part # 6-53.

However there are other differences like the # 8-285-11 having 9/16" wheel studs where the # 8-393-6UC3-A has a larger 5/8" stud.
