Video Transcript for Redline Tires and Wheels 6-53 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the 9/16" by 18 Trailer Wheel Lug Nut. This lug nut is designed to fit 9/16" diameter wheel studs. It is a right hand normal thread design, 18 threads per inch. If you notice also, it has the 60 degree taper on it, and that's designed to fit the beveled opening of the lug hole on the wheels. Now, the head size on this, it is a 7/8" head so it will use a socket of 7/8", and you can see I have one, I happened to have a 7/8" socket here. See if it's right on the head of that.

The overall length of this lug nut from the top to the bottom is going to be right at 3/4". This part is for quality of one lug nut. That should do it for the review of the 9/16" by 18 Trailer Wheel Lug Nut.

I needed the parts fast and they delivered fast. Products were as expected and the entire transaction was easy and well done.
thank you,

by:

right part

by:

Parts arrived on time via UPS. Took them right over to the machinist and within an hour was able to pick up my hub & drum. The machinist works at an auto parts store and the distributors for the store couldn't match the specs of the Dexter Wheel Lugs so had to special order these from etrailer. Got excellent service. Suggest you follow the instructions from Dexter for reassembly of the wheel and axle system.
I recommend you also order the end of spindle snap ring as well as the magnet clips for this job.

by:

Not sure if the problem lies with the studs i bought from etrailer or these lug nuts but the quality is poor. Thread engagement appears to have different pressure angles and they are not smooth and difficult to start.

by:

The parts came faster than expected and fit as expected

working good

  • Availability of a 9/16 Inch Wheel Stud for Dexter Trailer Hubs
If the hubs have a screw in type wheel stud, you can use Trailer Hub Wheel Stud, # 25-11. These are 9/16 by 3 inches (total length). The threaded part for the lug nuts is 1-9/16 inches long which may not be enough for your new alloy wheels. It is a difference of 3/16 of an inch. This stud is the only 9/16 wheel stud we carry.

  • What Is The Torque Specifications On A 9/16 Inch Lug Nut
The standard torque on a Redline Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 9/16 inch, part # 6-53, is 135 to 145 ft lbs. This is the torque range that is normally used. If the instructions for the wheel are saying 110 ft lbs there might be a reason, like the wheel material, why they are recommending a lower torque. I think 170 ft lbs is too high for a 9/16 inch lug nut.

  • 9/16 Inch Lug Nuts and Drive-In Trailer Hub Studs
For 9/16" lug nuts we have the Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 9/16" # 6-53. Then, for drive-in 9/16" wheel studs, which are 2-1/2" long, the correct part is the Trailer Hub Wheel Stud # 7-257. These are sold individually so you'll want to make sure you order the appropriate amount for your hub and wheels.

The Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel # AM20750 that you referenced can fit on hubs with either 1/2-inch diameter or 9/16-inch diameter wheel studs. You will need to determine what size studs are on your hubs in order to choose lug nuts with the correct diameter and thread pitch. • Lug Nut For 17-1/2 Inch Trailer Wheel & Lock
Trailer wheels that are 17-1/2 inches wide commonly use 9/16" lug nuts, and we do have those, but not locking lug nuts of that size; the best option is to get the lug nuts that fit and utilize a wheel lock. For the lug nuts you can use either of the following: - Lionshead Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 9/16"-18 - Stainless Steel # LHLR110 - Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 9/16" Diameter - Zinc Plated # 6-53 Then for a wheel lock that will fit that size wheel, I recommend a Rack'em lock: - Rack'em...

  • Does the Mounting Flange of the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit K2HR79E Fit 5 Bold Mounting Flange
The Kodiak disc brake kit part # K2HR79E that you referenced is actually designed to fit brake mounting flanges on axles that have the 5 bolt mounting pattern. There are several holes in the bracket that you can see in the product pictures but that is to allow the bracket to be installed in several different orientations on the trailer. This comes with 9/16 inch wheel studs that will work well with your current rims but you will need new lug nuts. For that you would need part # 6-53.

The Kodiak Wheel Bolt - 9/16" Diameter x 2-1/2" Long # K916WB25 can replace your 5/8 studs as long as the knurl diameter and length work for your hub and wheel. For instance, the Kodiak Wheel Bolt - 5/8" Diameter x 3-1/8" Long # K58WB316 will work in the hubs due to the same diameter of the knurl, but the length difference is significantly different so the wheel may determine fit. • Offset of Wheel/Tire Combo # AM34964 Does it Include Center Cap and Lug Nuts
The offset of a wheel refers to the distance between the mounting surface of the wheel that touches the hub and the center line of the wheel. A negative offset will move the tire away from the trailer, while a positive offset will move the tire closer to the trailer. The AM34964 you referenced has an offset of negative 8 mm, which means the mounting surface is closer to the trailer. This means the center line of the wheel will be further from the trailer. You can see this more clearly...

  • What Cone Angle Lug Nuts for Hub on 7K Trailer Hub/Drum
The hub, such as the Dexter # 8-219-13UC3 doesn't care which lug nut you use, as long as it's compatible with the 9/16 inch wheel stud diameter. The wheel itself is what dictates whether a coned lug nut is needed and what angle the cone needs to be. Most stud piloted wheels (most trailer wheels) would use a 60º coned lug nut like # 6-53 for a steel wheel or # LHLR110 for an aluminum wheel.
