Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring - Wiring Adapters - PK11896 Review

Today we're going to review part number PK11896. This is the Pollak 7-way to a 12 volt power outlet adapter. This part is designed to adapt a 7-way trailer connector that's on the rear of your vehicle to a 12 volt power plug right here. Uses tin plated copper terminal pins. This will give you access to power like a TV, electric coolers, portable work lights or even 12 volt power tools. Has the nice built-in finger pulls, it helps you install it and remove it. Basically, I've got an example here, here would be a 7-way vehicle end plug-in so basically this is designed, if you have this on the rear of your vehicle, you'd be able to just plug this right in and then with it plugged in you can see that it'll give you the plug for a 12 volt power accessory.

That should do it for the review on part number PK11896. This is the Pollak 7-way to 12 volt power outlet adapter. .

The product arrived very promptly, in fact I didn't think it would be here in time for Christmas and it arrived 3 days early. Thanks for your prompt attention to my order! 111521

This nice little device makes it easy for me to run my 12v accessories while outside at the rear of my vehicle. My main goal for using this adapter is to enable the use of a small air compressor for either my vehicle's rear tires or to pressurize the air bag suspension. 140565

I bought this because the new tractor I bought has a 7-way outlet on it. It doesn't fit, too big for the outlet. I will keep it in my truck for my worklight. I guess receptacles are a different size in Korea! 216985

Great item, just remember that GM typically does not tie down the 12V for the trailer connectors. In late model trucks its coiled and taped under the master cylinder. It ties to the 40 amp lug on the front of the main fuse box on the drivers side engine compartment. 248146

Works just like it should. I Plug it into my 7 way RV plug in the the back of my F350 when on trips without an RV to run a 12V cooler. I have also run a light that runs off of 12V power while camping. 240219

Do you have a question about this Wiring?

  • How To Complete 12 Volt Power Circuit on 2012 Ford F-150 7-Way
  • For some reasons a lot of vehicle manufacturers don't complete the 12 volt pin of the 7-way connector. The easiest way to go about doing this is to run a length of 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) through a breaker like # 9510 to the positive post of the battery. This allows you to bypass all of the factory wiring issues that you mentioned. Once done the part # PK11896 will be able to install in your 7-way and provide 12 volts.

  • Availability of Adapter to Plug Into 7-Way and Provide 110V AC Power Outlet
  • It sounds like you are looking for an adapter like the Pollak 7-Way to 12V Power Outlet # PK11896. This will plug into a 7-Way on the vehicle and provide a 12V plug on the other end that can be used with 12V accessories. In order to then convert this for use with a household 110V AC power outlet like it seems like you are wanting to do, you will need to plug in a power inverter like # WC2107-6 or # WC2295-6 to the Pollak Outlet. Just note that if you are powering your accessories without...

  • Recommended Adapter to Plug Portable Air Pump into Trailer Connector
  • I recommend looking at the Pollak 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet Adapter # PK11896. You will simply plug this into the 7-way connector on your F-150 to provide a 12V plug or DC-AC converter 110V plug outlet for use with your portable air pump. I have attached a short demonstration video on this product for you to check out.

  • How Does the Pollak 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet Adapter, # PK11896, Work
  • If you are looking at the face of the Pollak 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet Adapter, # PK11896, the top blade contacts the 12 volt power pin on a 7-Way. The bottom pin contacts the ground circuit. This completes the circuit and allows the 12 volt outlet side to work.

  • 7-Way to 12 Volt Accessory Adapter Recommendation for Powering Cooler
  • The back of the Pollak 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet Adapter, # PK11896, does accept the type of input that you would plug into a power port/cigarette lighter outlet. You will need to make sure that the 12 volt pin, located in the 1 oclock position (if looking at the face of the 7-Way), is functional. Use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993, to test the pin. With the adapter plugged into the 7-Way, you will be able to plug in a 12 volt accessory. Your brake controller should not have any...

  • How to Power Camper Exterior Lights without Hooking Up to Tow Vehicle
  • If you are just wanting a way to power your exterior camper lights without having to hook up to the tow vehicle, your best option will be to wire the lights up to the positive terminal on a trailer mounted battery. You will want to run the wire from the battery to a switch like # PK34571, then from there to a diode # RM-690 and then on to the lights you are wanting to power. Otherwise there isn't really an easy way to plug your camper directly to AC power, as trailer lights and accessories...

  • How to Use an A/C Powered Air Compressor on a 7-Way Trailer Connector
  • If you already have the Pollak 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet Adapter part # PK11896 then all you need to use this with a 110 volt AC air compressor is the Peak Performance Mobile Power Inverter part # PKC0AM. The power inverter has a 100 watt rating but the 12 volt pin on the vehicle will be your limiting factor. The 12 volt pin on most 7-way trailer connectors is around 30-40 amps. You can verify this in your owner's manual or you can run a new hot lead straight to the battery with part...

  • Will Pollak 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet Adapter # PK11896 Work with Blue Sea 1010 Plug
  • Your Blue Seas plug 1010 will work with the Pollak 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet Adapter # PK11896. I did not see anything on that Blue Seas plug stating that a special outlet would be needed and the twist to lock feature seems to be exclusive to the plug end. The Pollak outlet locks into a 7-Way the same way that any 7-Way connector does; using the lid of the 7-Way to prevent the outlet from coming out. Rough terrain would also not be a problem assuming of course you are cautious while...

  • Connectors to Power an Electric Trailer Winch from a Vehicle Battery
  • Pollak 7-Way to 12 volt adapter # PK11896 can handle a 20 to 30 amp power draw but the limiting factor will be if the 7-Way on the vehicle is rated high enough as well. Check the fuse for the 12 volt circuit for the tow package trailer connector to make sure it is also rated high enough. Using an adapter like this is not traditionally how an electric winch is powered. It should have its own connector separate from the trailer connector. We have a help article that covers the different...

  • Adapter Needed For 12 Volt Accessory Circuit on Vehicle with 5-Way
  • A 5-way flat does not normally carry a 12 volt accessory circuit so an adapter for what you are looking for isn't directly available. What you can do is use the part # 37185 though which your 5-way will plug directly into and then will allow you to run the black wire to the positive post of your battery with a 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot), through a breaker like part # 9510. You could then plug in the part # PK11896 and you'd have a 12 volt power source available...

I would also check your vehicle fuse panel and make sure that there are not any damaged fuses that could be causing this problem. The wiring in the adapter # PK11896 wasn't designed to be altered. I included a informative article about wiring for you to look at.

  • Here is what you could do, you could install a Tow Ready Battery Isolation Solenoid # TR118665 on the 12 volt power circuit of your 7-way so that it would only have power when the reverse light circuit is activated. You would connect the solenoid in line with the 12 volt accessory wire by attaching either side of the circuit on the outer bigger terminals and then running a wire that was tapped into the reverse light circuit on the middle, smaller terminal.
