Can The Curt 5th Wheel Wiring Be Used To Get 12Volt Power In Truck Bed?

Updated 05/30/2024 | Published 05/27/2024

Question:

Curt C56070 - is there any reason why I couldn’t use the Curt C56070 5th wheel extension as a clean plug and play way to add power to the bed of my 2016 Colorado? I’m wanting to be able to plug in an electric cooler and possibly other things with either a 7-pin to 12v adapter or hardwire a 12v/usb panel by splicing into the harness. That way I’m not splicing into the factory harness if I want to remove it in the future. Thanks, waiting for a reply

Jordan, you are first going to want to check the power draw that your cooler and any other accessories you plan to connect are going to draw. This will allow you to verify the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness # C56070 and 7-Way to 12 Volt Power Outlet # PK11896 are going to be acceptable. These circuits are often fused with a 20 amp fuse/relay and I know several coolers require more power than that to run.
