Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Integrated Active Sway Control

The TruTrack weight distribution system works to stop trailer sway before it begins. This is achieved primarily thanks to the specially designed system head.

TruTrack Spring-Loaded Ball Bearings in Detents

On top of the trunnions, there are spring-loaded ball bearings that rest in detents built into the underside of the head. As you travel down the road normally, these ball bearings help to keep the trailer in a straight line by applying pressure inside these detents.

TruTrack Spring-Loaded Ball Bearings out of Detents

When sway occurs, the trunnions move inside the head, causing the ball bearings to come out of these detents. When this happens, the ball bearings ride along internal grooves in the head as they work to return to the detents to snap the trunnion back in place. This action effectively returns your trailer to center.

TruTrack Spring Bar Bracket

Additional sway control is created by the spring bar brackets. Most traditional weight distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also permits a good deal of side-to-side play in the system. Allowing the spring bars to hang freely also minimizes the tension described earlier. This limits your system's ability to hold your trailer in line behind your tow vehicle.

Not only do the brackets on the TruTrack work to constantly hold your trailer in line, but they also supply friction to force it back into place should any sway occur. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Head Tilt Adjustment

TruTrack Head Position

The TruTrack's unique head adjustment method sets it apart from traditional washer-style setups by taking the hassle and guesswork out of finding the correct tilt. The main drawback with the washer method stems from the need to add or remove washers to determine the proper tilt. So each time an adjustment is required the hitch head must be disassembled so that the washers can be either removed or stacked on, and then reassembled. Not only is this time consuming, but the trial and error necessary to determine the precise number of washers can be frustrating.

The TruTrack simplifies the entire process by giving you 5 preset adjustment points to choose from. As a result, you can quickly and conveniently achieve the proper tilt without ever needing to disassemble the head or keep track of washers. To fine-tune the system simply start out in Position 1, which is the lowest head tilt setting. This setting applies the least amount of tension to the spring bars. As you continue to adjust the head tilt, more tension will be applied to the spring bars. Work through the positions in order until the correct tilt setting is determined. Once your tow vehicle is level, use the oblong washers in conjunction with the shank bolts to secure the head to the shank in the desired position.

Forged Steel Spring Bars

The TruTrack's spring bars are made from forged steel, giving them a distinct advantage over typical cast steel bars. Forging is a process where thermal and mechanical energy are applied to the steel, resulting in a finished product that is more resilient to impacts and is stronger in terms of shear strength. Simply put, the TruTrack's spring bars do a superior job of helping to hold your trailer in line because of their added strength and durability.

Simple Spring Bar Setup

TruTrack Spring Bar Install

The support brackets of the TruTrack easily clamp onto your trailer frame to provide the attachment points for the weight distribution spring bars. To position the spring bars on the brackets during hookup, simply use the included snap-up lever to lift each bar onto an L-shaped bracket. Then secure the bars in place with the included L-pins and clips.

Some clip adaptations to my trailer didn't quite yield the load leveling I was hoping for, but it definitely makes a difference. I added air lifts to my Tahoe as well and between the two, i am good. I only wish i had a source for the little L shaped clips that hold bar in place horizontally. Those are the only "spare" parts i could use.... Overall I am happy with this, glad I bought it.... 359515

Thanks for your business and your review, Jim! I have good news! The L-brackets to which you refer are available as a replacement part C17508. I hope this helps!

Hitch is terrific. As I mention in my post, I would love a pair of those tiny L clips that hold the torsion bars in place. Mine bent up early on and while Ive sorta straightened they would work more safely if I could get new. Thoughts on how I can get those?

First off etrailer.com had a ton of information and the website was able to answer all my questions. My weight distribution hitch showed up fast and as described. Hitch was easy to install and worked exactly as described. I tow a 4000 pound camper with approx 400-800lbs of tongue weight depending on bed and camper load. I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma. This hitch is easy to adjust and leveled the load. This hitch also allows backing up and that was a major selling point. 191299

I will be towing up to 5500lb with my 2016 TRD OFF ROAD DC auto, Do you recommend this hitch Thanks Tom C.

Ordered online and then made a second order. Called first thing in a.m. to have orders combined in order to save on shipping. Customer service was excellent. 3 to 5 Day Shipping arrived in 4 business days. Curt Tru Track works great. I cant believe the difference in towing. Smooth and straight as an arrow! The product was easy to put together and instructions were simple. I started putting it on at dusk and finished by the light of streetlight with no big issues. Easy to adjust! I installed this unit after talking to some professionals. They said going up on tongue weight is not a big issue. The Tru Track is rated for 1000lb GTW. My application is on Jeep Grand Cherokee with 500 lb tongue weight capacity and 5000lb Gross Tow Capacity. Havent tried all competitor brands but very happy with the product! 383101

I use this WDS to pull a Surveyor 32RLTS with a 2014 Ram 1500, HEMI with 3.92. The TT is 7800lbs, and It feels great with no sway even with the trailer being 36 feet long. I really enjoy the ability to be able to adjust the hitch head unit to level out the truck and trailer. It took me 20 minutes for the initial installation and another 15 minutes to get everything leveled. Make sure you have a 1" 1/16 socket and 1"1/18 wrench to make the process easier. I'm glad I was able to research WDS before I purchased my TT. If I would have purchase the WDS at the RV dealership, I would have paid 200 dollars more for the same of most likely lower quality. Another great product provided by etrailer at a great price. I placed my order with short notice and to my surprise we received it two days later ready for a 600 mile trip. As always, I make my purchases last minute, but once again etrailer and UPS always bail me out and my me look like a hero.! 367322

I like this little weight distribution system. I bought it mostly for the anti-sway features but the weight distribution system works well. I pull a 7 x 14 enclosed tandem axle trailer loaded with two motorcycles, all my camping gear, bicycles, motorcycle clothing, tools, canoe, motor etc. I pulled the load from Utah to Montana and back and didn't even know the trailer was back there. I'm very pleased and the price was $500 less than a local distributor wanted for a similar system. As always, etrailer service was outstanding. I'll try to post photos later. 216240

Im still very pleased. I did find a way to dent my trailer by turning too tight but thats not the fault of the equipment. Everything Ive purchased from E trailer has worked perfectly.

Changed from a chain type WD this bar/bracket system. Rating very close to the same. This c17500 is MUCH better. I can backup and drive off pavement with this sytem and it works great! The tow vehicle and trailer are level and other than the extra weight behind me slowing acceleration, it rides great. 1500 Avalanche towing 6000lb loaded small toy hauler. 570474

This is a quality product and serves me well. I do think though, the original E-Qual-Izer may be a bit better. 627773

already had to replace L pins. I apply grease before each trip and they still bent. My 25 year old E-Qual-Izer with 150k of towing is still all original parts. So no probably would not recomend this hitch to a friend.

This is the first time I have ever done any review about anything but I felt compelled to let everyone know about etrailer.com. First thing was the easy web site navigation and the help looking at my towing needs. Im a first time travel trailer owner. After finding my proper hitch and ordering it, it arrived 3 days later from UPS but the package was broken open and 3 parts were missing. I called etrailer.com and explained the problem and let them know I had a group camping trip planned in 7 days. They sprang into action and started the claim with UPS. I watched the tracking on line through their web site but it never left e trailer so I called on Monday and talked with another customer rep and explained my situation about leaving on Wed. with the group. She looked into it and said it was e trailers fault that somehow it didn't get shipped but she would get it out ASAP. This was Monday around 3 pm. By 8 pm I received an e-mail with a order number saying it was being shipped next day so I would have time to install it and make the trip on Wed. I have never been so impressed with a companies customer service in my life. A big THANK YOU to Chelsey, George and Im sorry I don't remember the last gals name but you did give me your desk phone number and said to call direct to your desk if I had any more problems. As for the product I haven't used it yet but its built with solid steel and I cant imagine it not working but if it doesn't I know e trailer will take care of me. Thank you again etrailer.com !!! 421445

I would have given 5 stars, but there is one concern I have, which is easily fixed; in my first test run of about 5 miles, both of the wire lock lynch pins that are used to secure the trunnion bars to the hitch head were working their way loose. I know they were properly inserted and pinned when I started, but when I returned from my test run, the wire retainers were not holding the pins in, and the pins had backed partially out of the holes. I will be replacing these with clevis and cotter pins. For what it is worth, the wire retainers did not seem to have much spring force in them like I would have expected to see, so maybe these came from a bad batch. Otherwise, I felt like this unit will work well for me. My trailer is a car hauling trailer that typically carries my Jeep when we go off-roading, and my tow rig is a 2018 F150 with the 5.0. On my test run I just put my ATV on the trailer all the way to the front to put some tongue weight on the trailer. 798061

First: I attest under penalty of RV hell that this is not a paid endorsement of either the product or etrailer...lol Word to the wise. Before we installed this product, we installed an electric tongue jack and a cordless impact drill for $70 from Harbor Freight. Both of these helped the quality and efficiency of the install of this system...it would have been a lot more work cranking up and down on a manual jack and then also cranking up and down to fine tune the weight distribution system. Now, on to the review: This product was easy to install and has almost totally negated the visible swag on the rear suspension of our tow vehicle. I was anticipating having to purchase E-rated tires and air bag suspension for a 1/2 ton pickup. This equalizer works well enough that the tow vehicle looks fine. I realize this is the intent of the product...but have to say that it probably saved over $1000 in further modifications. I must also really brag on your installation video. We were not certain about installing it ourselves...but with the video combined with the great instructions, it was easier than we ever thought would be possible(this also saved us at least $150 on installation costs for what would have been an inferior product). I considered putting the pics of the trailer hooked up without the system, but am afraid I would be laughed off the internet for what could have passed for an episode of "Sanford and Son". Trust me, it made a big difference. I'm inspired enough from this install to try and install a brake system for the same trailer. Looks to be a great video for it as well. We purchased it from etrailer and combined it with a wiring harness to fit my exact make/model of vehicle and I'm hoping it will be as good of an experience as the sway control system. Great job etrailer and kudos to your video crew(s)! 213179

Product is still working great. In fact, we moved up to a one ton vehicle and had to transfer it. Obviously the height is different, so we used the same video for the install to adjust it to the new vehicle. Works great!

I bought this to replace an older style equalizer hitch (with the chain bars) and needed to add anti sway, which my old hitch did not have. Adding an anti sway bar to the old hitch would have cost a couple hundred $$ with welding and ball installation, so I opted to just start over. My application is a 24' (box length) 10000GVW toy hauler that was wagging from time to time. I have many years of towing experience with pull behinds and fifth wheels so I knew what I was looking for while shopping. I have had Curt hitches before and know that they are a quality product. The Equal-i-zer hitch was considered but it was more in cost. In the end, the mechanics of the Curt hitch were superior to the Equal-i-zer for less money. Installing the hitch was easy and took less than 2 hours. One adjustment was necessary to get the proper tension on the bars and adjust them to no more than 4" hangover on the bar tray, as well as level towing with the equalizer factor. There is no option but to get it installed correctly, so if you don't have any or limited experience with installing hitches, get help from a friend who has or get professional help. You don't want your camper flailing down the road or in the ditch because of improper hitch installation. First trip out on winding mountain roads with very windy conditions was excellent...no more wagging trailer...very impressed Backing the trailer in the campsite with relatively tight jack-knife potential angles was not a problem with no issues with the bars. I watched closely with these tight angles to make sure no problems were awaiting me, and no problems at all. Instructions recommend removing the bars with tight turning angles and that would be a good idea if the angles were were getting to extreme. So, I highly recommend this hitch for load equalization and anti sway. The Good: Easy to install Performs as expected The Bad: No torque specifications that I found for the bolts, so I just rompt on it with a breakover bar to get it tight. Installations instructions were about a C+ Hitch head itself is VERY heavy so be prepared to grunt and swear as you remove or reinstall it from your truck hitch. 436382

- C17500

I am disappointed by the weight of the hitch head. When I spoke with e-trailer, I was looking for a lighter head than my Husky (40 pounds). This one is a full 60 pounds and is a brute to lift and maneuver. No way can I lift into storage compartment or back of my truck. I am figuring out a shoulder harness system-but be warned-it is VERY heavy. I did not want to pay the restocking fee or shipping back, so am giving it a try. If it proves to be too much for me to handle, I will sell it and get something with a lighter head It came very well packed and totally intact, but I was told 2 boxes and it was one box 118 pounds. That was a big challenge! Instructions are good and it was easy to get the ball to the correct height-again the head is very heavy as you are trying to get the correct hole on the shank. Extra hands would be helpful but I'm doing this on my own. In the process of installing on trailer and had to move relays and other stuff out of the way to mount the brackets. Picture shows what I had to move. It's about 34-35" back so keep that in mind. I have a narrow frame and the bolts provided are about 1.5" longer than needed. I went and got shorter bolts because they need to be removed when adjusting brackets for a different tow vehicle. Of course you will need deep sockets, and 2 large (1 1/8 I think) for the head I haven't used it yet but heading out on long trip so it will be tested. I'm rating it before testing-one star off for the weight and difficulty moving it. Not for anyone weak! 646483

- C17500

I bought and installed this hitch so my brother could pull my trailer across country. Installation was the Curt Tru track C17500 WDS on my 2017 Coachman Catalina Legacy Edition travel trailer, being pulled with a Ford F-150. This is the first experience I've had with installing and using a WDS. Instructions were clear and simple to follow, and after about 3 hours and going through various hitch tilt settings to get enough weight on the front axle, we were ready to go. I would have given a higher rating, but I did encounter a problem with the A-frame placement on the trailer tongue. With my tongue, it was impossible to place the A-frames at the required 4" from the end of the spring bar due to the cross support angle iron that holds my battery. At first, I tried placing the A-frames behind the angle iron, but that put them at only 3" from end of spring bar, causing the spring bar to slip out of the L-bracket on a tight turn. I ended up having to cut part of the angle iron away in order to move the A-frames far enough forward to keep this from happening. I'm just curious if others have had this same problem and if etrailer and/or Curt are aware of this potential issue, or if possibly I was sent the wrong hitch for this particular trailer. Seems to me that the spring bars should be a couple inches longer for this particular setup, to keep this from being an issue. We were on a tight schedule, so I didn't have time to contact customer service to help resolve this matter...so I just went ahead and modified the trailer as needed. Other than that, the system seems like it is going to work just fine... my brother left out today hauling the trailer from GA to AZ. We'll see how it goes. 486868

Weight distribution systems are only specific to the tongue weight of a trailer, not to the design or the trailer make and model. Unfortunately, the sheer numbers of trailer makes and models would make it impossible to fit guide them correctly to provide fit information for specific trailers.

Bought this since we went from a fifth wheel to a travel trailer. I like that there's no sway bar to fuss with. Installation was pretty easy and straight-forward. It was pretty difficult to find just the right tension setting. You may need to replace your tongue jack (as I did) since you will have to lift the tongue of your trailer with the truck attached at least a few inches to put the trunion bars on. Sway control seemed to work pretty well. 647825

WOW is all I can say. I have a 2017 Ram 2500 pulling a 31ft bump pull Hideout travel trailer. I had the old style WD hitch that use the chains. Last weekend we had 20-40 mph winds coming home from camping. I could not get over 45mph with fear of losing the trailer and my truck. I had done a lot of research on C17500. All the reviews were great. So then it came down to who I was going to buy it from. etrailer was the last place I had found who sold them and I could not believe the price. It was cheaper then anyone I could find. I order it on Monday night and it was at my door Friday morning. I put it on today Sunday the 18th of February. It took me about a hour from start to finish. I got it to less then 1/2 in of sag on the back and about 1/4 of rise on the front. Now was the moment of truth. Taking back to it storage home during the week. I took the hwy to get a idea of how well it worked. Almost immediately I could tell it was everything and MORE then I hoped. 75mph later and not a wiggle or movement of my truck or trailer. Passing 18 wheelers with out a worry in the world. I was TOTALLY amazed how well it worked. If you are looking for a Sway control WD Hitch look no further. Don’t waste your time or money on anything else. You will not regret it. 476910

Really like the way it keeps my vehicle and travel trailer level. Pretty easy to set up and use. I give 3 stars because the hardware that sets the angle bent after 6 months of use on a 3000 lb travel trailer. I torqued them all to spec, so not sure how it happened. I was able to order the replacement parts, but for the amount paid it should last. This is no fault of etrailer, they were great. 627971

This tow system works well and was fairly easy to install. I've only used it to tow 8 hours so far on 2 trips once 200 miles with a marginal 1/2 ton pickup and once 200 miles with 3/4 ton diesel pickup made for hauling reaching speeds of 75 MPH going up a mountain side. The differences were only as would be expected from the differences in tow vehicles. My only concern is the weight of the hitch, I'm 68 and not getting any stronger. I'm not concerned on the lifting to install or remove the hitch head so much as moving it to and from a storage spot, such as, the garage or cargo bay in the camper. On the other hand, it's probably the bulkiness/weight of this very item that makes the system work. as I recall the price was reasonable. 932398

The quality of the materials seems very high. I have now used the distribution hitch for 3 trips, and it makes pulling a camper with a smaller pickup much more comfortable. I feel it also makes it safer with the sway reduction designed into the hitch. Overall, i think this is a great product. 864040

- C17500

It arrived on time and undamaged. The instructions were clear and I was able to install this in about 3 hours. I took my truck and camper on a test drive and it made a tremendous difference in how the vehicle handled. I think this will make it much safer too. 850527

Load equalizing and weight distribution in one unit, who could ask for anything more? Are there units that provide a little more sway control, sure (cam style), but the fact that you can back up and maneuver without unhooking the tension bars way more than offsets that slight reduction. Besides, if you load your trailer correctly and use common sense you will never need more than this unit provides. It is installed on a 26' tandem axel car hauler box trailer, I would not hesitate to buy one again, matter of fact there most likely will be one installed on the flatbed soon. 837417

The difference between the two systems is that the Curt TruTrack # C17500 has a tongue weight capacity between 800 lbs and 1,000 lbs with a maximum gross towing weight of 10,000 lbs while the Curt TruTrack # C17501 has a tongue weight capacity between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs with a maximum gross towing weight of 15,000 lbs. This is important because in order to choose the best weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight...

  • Choosing Between the Curt TruTrack 8K and 10 Systems for a 5K Trailer
The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17500 which is rated for up to 10,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 1,000 lbs tongue weight would work but it wouldn't perform as well as the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17499 which is rated for 8,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 800 lbs tongue weight on a 5,000 lbs trailer which will likely have an actual tongue weight once loaded anywhere from 500 lbs - 750 lbs. That said, if you were to go with the lower rated...

  • Best Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System for Trailer with 400 Pound Tongue Weight
When picking out a weight distribution system it's important to make sure your setup's total tongue weight, which includes the loaded tongue weight of the trailer along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle, falls comfortably within its weight capacity range. If your trailer's loaded tongue weight will be around 400 pounds the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17500, which has a tongue weight capacity of 800 to 1,000 pounds, will definitely...

  • Troubleshooting Truck Sag with Trailer and Weight Distribution System Connected on 2019 Ram 1500
The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17500 you referenced is rated for total tongue weights between 800 and 1000 lbs. Based on your camper dry weight, it does appear that once loaded and with any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck you should be in the appropriate range. I've attached some articles to assist. If you aren't getting any difference in sag between when the system is engaged and when the bars aren't under load, then it appears you may not...

  • Correct Curt Weight Distribution System for Towing a 2018 Keystone Bullet Premier Ultra Light 30RIPR
It looks like your current system is a Curt MV like part # C17052 which is supposed to help with the distribution of weight but doesn't include any sway control. This is why you were having issues with the wind. There are friction sway control bars like part # 17200 that you can add to your system but they are not as effective as a system that has the sway control integrated into it. The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution (WD) # C17500 does have integrated sway control so it will help...

  • Choosing Correct Weight Distribution Hitch for 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Towing Travel Trailer
Trailer weight distribution hitches (WDH) such as the Curt TruTrack systems # C17499 and # C17500 do come in varying weight capacities. Selection of the correct one for any given towing setup is based on the actual fully-loaded tongue weight (TW). It is true that using a system rated for much more than your actual TW will cause poor ride quality. In the case of a WDH more is not necessarily better. All you need to do to select the right setup is measure your fully-loaded trailer's actual...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Trailer with 800 Lb Hitch Weight
The hitch weight listed for a trailer by the manufacturer is the dry weight meaning what the trailer weighs without any contents. Once loaded up and ready to tow this will increase the hitch weight by a variable amount which needs to be taken into consideration when picking out a weight distribution system. For a trailer with 800 lb hitch weight, a 1,000 lb system would be ideal and for this I recommend the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17500 which has four point sway...

  • Replacement Spring Bar for Older Curt TruTrack 10,000 Pound Weight Distribution System
For your Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System (10,000/1,000 pounds) # C17500 the correct replacement spring bar is the part # C17536. The shorter 28-1/2" bars that you currently have are no longer made. This replacement bar measures 35 inches long and is completely compatible with your existing Curt head (which we have verified with the manufacture), but you will need to replace both bars so that they have an equal length. I have attached a short video review that you can check out...

  • Can Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution Have Tongue Weight Rating of Spring Bars Increased
The two Curt systems you have are very similar but to swap bars between the two you'd have to also swap the heads since the bars are different sized. So for a head you'd need the part # C17509 and the bars # C17537 and you'd have upgraded your system to the higher rated 1,000 lbs - 1,500 lbs tongue weight setup. In general we recommend people set up their WD systems on vehicles with air ride by first putting the weight of the trailer on the ball mount, letting it settle, and then run...

  • Installation of Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System on 2017 GMC Yukon Denali with Autolevel
The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17500 should be installed when you have your 2017 GMC Yukon Denali turned off. This will ensure you have the proper function and alignment. Then when your autoleveling system activates it will adjust properly for the best function. Do all of your measuring and adjusting with the system off. Then when the system activates the adjustments needed will be minor and you won't be overworking your system.

  • 1,000 lb Curt Weight Distribution System Recommendation with 2 inch Hitch Ball
For a somewhat similar weight distribution system as the # C17500 except without a ball mounted you would want the part # 17302. This system does not have the same sway control though. Then for a 2 inch hitch ball you would also want the part # A-90. For a WD system that is more similar the Fastway e2 part # FA92-00-1000 would be your best option as it is a trunnion setup with the 2 point sway control.

  • Comparing Curt TruTrack and Husky Center Line Weight Distribution Systems
Between the Curt TruTrack system # C17500 and the Husky Center Line system, # HT32218, the differences are basically cosmetic. There are some slight differences in the design of various components between the systems but they function the same. The Curt system is rated for 800 to 1,000 pounds tongue weight and the Husky system is rated for 800 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight. If it were me I would go with the Curt system since it costs a bit less. I have linked videos of both systems...

  • What are the Sizes and Torque Ratings for the Bolts in Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution Systems
Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Item # C17500 uses standard bolt sizes, not metric. The 3/4" bolts that hold the head to the shank get torqued to 200 foot pounds each. The nuts for the bolts to hold the frame brackets to the trailer get torqued to 25 foot pounds each. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you and a video review.

  • Length of Spring Bars on Curt TruTrack 17500 Weight Distribution System
I checked and the spring bars of the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17500 are 35" long and 1-1/4" wide and based on your photo and the necessary positioning of the brackets. I do have a solution which could work for you, however. Since the TruTrack you asked about would be for a 900 lb total tongue weight I assume that you need a system with that tongue weight rating. The Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET has brackets that can be positioned 27" - 32" from the center of the coupler. It...

  • Can You Back Up with a Curt Weight Distribution System Installed
You can back up with the Curt Weight Distribution system part # C17500 that you referenced as long as you are backing mainly in a straight line. Some systems are more strict on this than others, but basically you don't want to end up in a jack knife situation with a WD system installed as it will bind up the bars so bad that something can break or the bars will fall out. For a similar system that does not come with a hitch ball so that you can install and use a 2 inch ball like part...

  • Curt Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer that Weighs 7,500 lbs
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. Since your trailer is 7,500 lbs...

  • Can Hitch Ball Be Changed To A Different Size on Curt Weight Distribution System
On the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17500, yes you can change the ball. Just make sure you buy a 2" ball with the same shank as the ball that comes with it. The stock ball is a 2 5/16" diameter hitch ball with a 1 1/4" x 2 5/8" shank. 2" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank # A-90 is an example of what you need to switch the ball size.

  • What is the Difference Between 2-Point and 4-Point Sway Control
Weight distribution systems that have 2-point sway control generally have sway control just at the ends of the springs bars on the trailer side. On the Fastway systems for example the L bracket that secures the bar to the frame bracket can be tightened or loosened to adjust the amount of sway control tension on the bars. A system with 4-point sway control such as Curt # C17500 or Equal-I-zer hitch # EQ37100ET has the 2-point as mention above and then also sway control where the spring...

  • Setting the Target Height for the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17500
That is correct. Pickups like your 2005 Toyota Tundra are built with the purpose of towing in mind so they are better equipped than passenger vehicles for towing. Since you are using a Tundra you will not need to add the extra 1/8" per 100 lbs of tongue weight.

  • Weight Distribution for a Trailer with 550 to 1,000 Pounds Tongue Weight
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. At 550 to 1,000 pounds that is a fairly good range. there are a couple of weighs to approach this. You can choose a system that has a tongue weight capacity range that covers most the that. There are systems...

  • Do Lift Brackets on Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System have to be Lubricated
I will be happy to answer your questions on the Curt TruTrack weight distribution system # C17500. They are referring to the brackets that mount on the trailer and hold the spring bars. Lift bracket is a term more associated with chain hanging systems so I am not sure why they worded it that way. They are called lift brackets on those systems because you have to place the ends of the bars on them and then use a special handle to lift them up to put tension on the bars. The brackets...
