Question:

Is this unit available without the shank? I have already have a 2 inch shank that i needed to modify to accept my 2.5 inch receiver. Rise: 5-5/8 in. : 2-3/8 in. Shank length: 10 in.

You can piece out the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17500 with the following part numbers that include everything but the shank:

Trunnion Spring Bar - # C17536 (need 2 of these)
Spring Bar Lift Tool - # C17512
Frame Brackets - # C17508
Replacement Head - # C17507
Hardware Kit - # C17550
2" Hitch Ball - # 63018 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40085

This is slightly more cost-effective than purchasing the whole assembly, but also keep in mind that the assembly comes with the shank. Unfortunately Curt doesn't offer their weight distribution systems without the shank.

I ordered the C17500 weight distributing hitch. What size socket will I need for the ball? Will it require a thin wall socket?

The hitch ball actually comes pre-torqued on the head assembly for the Curt TruTrack # C17500 so you won't need any kind of socket for this.

@ChrisR I know it comes pre-torqued, but I always check torque prior to towing. That is why I am asking.

@MatthewI I gotcha! A thin walled socket would definitely make the process a lot easier. You can use the 1-7/8" # ALL643216.
