Is it Safe To Use a 2-1/2 to 2 Inch Reducer Sleeve With a Weight Distribution Trailer Hitch?

Updated 10/21/2025 | Published 01/22/2023

Question:

I have two e trainer hitches, both are two inch. I moved from a 1/2 ton yo a 3/4 ton truck. Is there any issue with using a 2.0 to 2.5 inch adapter on my truck with my weight distribution hitch.

There is no problem using a 2-1/2" to 2" Receiver Reducer Sleeve # e26YR with a weight distribution hitch. This way you will not need to replace your Shank # C17132 unless you have a significantly taller receiver on your new 3/4 ton truck. The Hitch Receiver Immobilizer III # BX88312 will allow you to remove the additional rattle you will notice in the receiver by using the additional reducer sleeve with your weight distribution hitch.

Bud M first thank you for your expertise. I bought a Blue Ox Sway Pro weight Distribution from E Trailer system for my Tundra that has a 2" receiver hitch. I tow a 7000lb Airstram 27' Globetrotter. Recently I purchased a new Ford F250 with a 2 1/2" receiver hitch. Is it safe to put a reducer along with the Blue Ox system to tow the Airstream. Thanks

@Vernon Yes it would be totally fine to use a reducer sleeve like part # BWRHXA2182 for that. You could also get a new shank for a 2-1/2" hitch but the reducer sleeve would cost a lot less.
