Where Are Frame Brackets Placed When Using Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System C17500?

Updated 09/22/2025 | Published 09/13/2025

Question:

I am installing my Curt 17500 WD hitch on my 2025 Cougar and I dont have enough room to mount the spring brackets 4 inches to the back of the bar. Is 8.5 inches to the front too much?

Hello Kevin, thanks for reaching out. The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17500 must have the frame brackets placed 4" from the end of the spring bar. Placing them at 8.5" back will not work and it will cause the WD hitch to not work as intended. You will need to either make room on the tongue or find a different WD hitch that uses a different bracket placement.

What is the distance from the center of your hitch ball to the open space on the frame? Like how far back would the brackets need to go? Let me know.

Center of ball to center of bracket is 29.5 inches. I am towing with a Ram 3500, and I am not using the WD so much, as I can put the bars on fairly easy. I was using it more for anti sway.

@KevinM I gotcha. You will need to go with a different WD system then. Take a look at the following: - Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # EQ37120ET The Equal-i-zer systems are great for sway control. The brackets need to be placed between 27" and 32" back from the center of the hitch ball so it sounds like this would work for you.
