Can Blue Ox Weight Distribution Hitch Be Used With Automatic Leveling Rear Suspension?

Updated 10/31/2025 | Published 10/10/2025

Question:

I have a Blue Ox sway pro for my travel trailer as it was recommended by the RV dealt and it’s been great. Recently I got a new, bigger, truck. This new truck has automatic rear leveling air. I’m seeing mixed information about using this with a weight distribution hitch. How does that work? Do I need to essentially disable the rear leveling entirely? Do I disable for hookup and then the it back on once hooked up? For reference the new truck is a 2024 ram 2500.

Hello Brandon, thanks for reaching out. Your best bet here would be to disable the automatic rear leveling when using your weight distribution system. Basically the two systems would be working against each other making them less effective. I have heard of people using both, but it really isn't something I would recommend. If you do plan to use both, you would want to hook up the trailer, let the system auto level, then set up your WD hitch per the instructions. So it can be done, but again, if you can disable the auto leveling that would be ideal and you would get the best performance out of your WD system.

Hey Brandon, how did things go once you tried towing with the Blue Ox SwayPro and the Ram’s auto-leveling turned off? Your results could really help others figuring out how these two systems work together.

@JesseM I haven’t tried yet but your response clashes with what the manual and other users suggest after doing further research. Will update once I actually try it.
