Do Lift Brackets On Blue Ox SwayPro Need To Be Placed Directly Under The Ends Of The Spring Bar?
Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 10/17/2025 >
Question:
Hello, I have interference where the chain lift mounts to the frame rails of the trailer. Is it alright to cut the top of the brackets off and weld the chain holder to the frame rails? Or does it matter if the mounts are not directly under the ends of the sway bars? I have some 4” channel welded on to accommodate a generator on the front of the trailer... would appreciate your opinions. Thanks,

Hello Charles, thanks for reaching out. The chain lift mounts on the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System # BXW1500 must be placed about 29" back from the center of the hitch ball. This places them directly under the ends of the sway bars which is critical. There is no wiggle room front or back for this.
I really can't recommend modifying or welding the brackets to the frame since this would void your warranty. If you are confident and comfortable doing that kind of work, it is a free country so there is nothing stopping you, just please proceed with caution and make sure the welds are solid. I would say definitely have it professionally welded.
I have seen some people make a "riser" for the generator on the tongue. Then cut out the section of the riser where the chain lift mounts go. That would be the safest way to do what you are trying to do. it would require some welding but then at least you would not have to modify the WD hitch.

Hey Charles, how did things go with the Blue Ox SwayPro setup after you looked into the riser option for your generator? Your experience could point others in the right direction who run into the same clearance issue.
