Hey Brian, thanks for reaching out!
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15302 is more than capable to handle any of the trailers that your 2006 GMC Sierra 3500 can tow, as I looked it up and I believe your truck can safely bumper tow up to 12K trailers.
You will need to use a weight distribution system and if you don't already have one, I recommend picking up the Blue Ox SwayPro # BXW1500 which is fairly versatile and has a tongue weight rating right in the range of what you're needing.
Let me know if you end up having any other questions!

Hey Brian, how did things turn out with the Curt hitch on your Sierra 3500? Did the setup with the Blue Ox SwayPro handle your heavy loads the way you needed? Your update could make it easier for others towing with similar trucks.
