Is 15K Clue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Good for a 2012 Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB

Updated 08/23/2024 | Published 08/19/2024

Question:

I am considering upgrading my weight distribution hitch between my 2015 Chevy Silverado and my 2012 airstream flying cloud 27FB. First, I need to understand what I have, but I can’t if it. Can you please help? I currently have a hitch with a number underneath the barcode of 4251263970. Another number is “15,000 lb trailer weight” and “1500 lb tongue weight.” What is this, and would a blue ox sway pro be an upgrade? My trailer weighs about 6700 lbs. Thanks!

Hey Ron, thanks for reaching out!

Your 2012 Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB has a GVWR of 7,600 lbs so your current 15K weight distribution could be rated a bit high for your trailer. The Blue Ox SwayPro 15K # BXW1500 has a tongue weight range of 1,000 lbs - 1,500 lbs which is pretty wide and fits right in your trailer tongue weight range (your proper tongue weight can be anywhere from 760 lbs - 1,140 lbs when fully loaded).

The SwayPro is a popular option and rightly so; the chain hanger system tends to be easier to use than the stiffer brackets and Blue Ox has the built-in sway control to help keep you in control of your trailer.

I don't have any way to use your barcode to see what you currently have, but if you have any identifying stickers of the brand name or photos to send my way I'd be more than happy to let you know if the SwayPro really would be an upgrade!

I really appreciate the feedback, Jon. I had to make a quick move locally, so I got the Sway Pro 1000, but as a customer who has done and will continue to patronize etrailer, it certainly speaks well of the company that you responded to my email with such knowledge and precision. Be well and thanks again.
