Can I Use a Pole Tongue Adapter w/ an Aluminum Trailer?

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/21/2024

Question:

Hello, I asked the question above about a weight dist. hitch for my LAnce Enclosed trailer Wondering if this Pole Tongue type adapter would work? https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Blue-Ox/BXW4023.html As mentioned above, I have a 2021 Chevy 2500 4x4 The tongue weight is around 500 pounds and I have 600-700 pounds of dirt bikes and tool and such in the bed of the truck. If the Pole tongue adapter doesnt work, what might be the best air bag set up or alternative set up to keep the truck from squatting and wearing out the front tires? Thanks

Hey Daryl! You're going to need to check with the manufacturer of your trailer to see if they'll let you use the Blue Ox Pole Tongue Adapter item # BXW4023. There are typically restrictions on aluminum trailers with weight distribution systems and specifically pole tongue adapters.

If you do get the ok from Legend, I recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control item # BXW1500. This system works with tongue weights that range from 1,000 lbs - 1,500 lbs so your truck and trailer loaded would be well within this range. It has built in sway control to keep your trailer in line with your truck when you make any sudden movements.

If Legend tells you no, then the best air bag kit for your 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 is the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs item # F2613. These air bags have a 5,000 lbs capacity that will level out the rear end of your Silverado when you are towing your trailer. All mounting brackets and hardware are included for installation.

I also recommend adding the Firestone Air Command item # F2610 to your truck. This onboard compressor will allow you to adjust the PSI in your air bags from your phone.

Hey Daryl, were you able to check with Legend about using the Blue Ox Pole Tongue Adapter on your trailer? I’m curious if you ended up going with the SwayPro hitch or the Firestone air bags for your Silverado. Your update could make it easier for others deciding between those setups.
